Abstract

Background: Caulerpa spp. extract contains neoxanthin, free astaxanthin, antheraxanthin, canthaxanthin, astaxanthin monoester, fucoxanthin, astaxanthin diester, and beta carotene, vitamins A, C, and E, minerals, amino acids and polyphenols which are photocemoprotective as to protect skin from damage caused by exposure to UV-B rays. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of topical 0.2% Caulerpa spp. extract in preventing premature skin aging in research subjects assessed by the parameters of skin moisture, pigmentation, and laxity of the skin. Method: This study was purely experimental research, using the randomized double-blind pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 40 research subjects participated in this study and were divided into two groups, namely the treatment group of 20 subjects, who were given interventions in the form of topical 0.2% Caulerpa spp. extract gel on the face, and the control group of 20 subjects who were given intervention in the form of application topical base cream on the face. All groups performed a pretest with a simple A-one scanner to assess skin aging with moisture, pigmentation, and laxity parameters on the skin. The two study groups were then treated for one month and post-tested. The research data was then collected for statistical analysis of using independent t-test and paired sample t-test. Results: Differences in skin assessments were analysed before and after therapy. Differences in assessment before therapy obtained p<0.05 on laxity and pore variables. Differences in assessment after treatment were found to be p<0.05 also in laxity and pores. Test differences in skin assessment in the two groups with Mann-Whitney using the difference in values after and before therapy obtained p<0.05 in pigmentation, laxity, humidity, pores, sebum U zone, and sebum T zone. Conclusion: Topical administration of topical Caulerpa spp. gel on the face has a photo protective effect by reducing pigmentation and laxity and increasing skin moisture.Keywords: Caulerpa spp., Skin aging, Pigmentation, Laxity.

Abstract

Introduction Diabetes is a non-communicable disease that is very common and costly and it has been known as one of the major causes of death in the world, manifested in the form of gradual increase in blood glucose concentration and reduced blood content or disorder in insulin signaling pathway. In this regard, many researchers concluded that minerals play a significant role in controlling blood sugar and improving the general state of diabetic patients. Therefore, the effect of oral administration of zinc as a micronutrient that has the insulin-like properties and involved in the production, storage, and secretion of insulin with different doses was studied in both human and animal models (rats).Methodology Human study includes four groups, in which one group was positive control group and three other groups received 25, 12.5, and 50 mg zinc on daily basis, and animal study included five groups including positive control group, negative control group, and three groups received 25, 12.5, and 50 mg zinc per kg of food.  It should be stated that to create diabetes in rats, Streptozotocin drug with dose of 45 kg/mg and citrate buffer solvent injected in the form of IP were used. Results In a recent study, we concluded that study groups received different doses of zinc showed significant difference with control groups in both human and animal models, in other measured parameters such as acute phase proteins like CRP, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA), and FT3 thyroid hormone FT3 in addition to the blood glucose reduction. Generally, it can be concluded that by taking zinc, acute phase protein reduced in these patients and by strengthening the body immune system through increasing the antioxidant capacity, it leads to reduced malondialdehyde.Keywords: Diabetes disease, Human and rat, Acute phase protein, Total antioxidant capacity, Malondialdehyde.  Thyroid hormone FT3- blood glucose.

Abstract

ABSTRACTINTRODUCTIONThere are some musculoskeletal problems that may arise due to cycling. It may be related from overuse due to unproper bike settings. The aim of this study is to understand cycling related musculoskeletal problems.MATERIALS AND METHODSThis was an observational study conducted on 32 adult respondents who ride a bicycle at least once a week. The parameters used in this study was illeotibialband syndrome, patellar mallalignment sign, inseam frame size ratio and x ray-based measurement (insalsavati index and sulcus angle). Cross tabs and independent test were used to analyze the correlation of unusculoskeletal problems with the factors that may affect.RESULTSThere was 32 respondents with 30 readable knee x-ray. Cycling frequency and distance, apprehension test result, knee Q angle, Sulcus angle, and Insalsavati index were found to have no correlation with the occurrence of knee pain. Age, knee angle, and frame size-inseam ratio were found to have unrelation significantly with p value,0,06; 0,025,and 0,00, respectively.CONCLUSIONThis study showed that knee pain in cycling was correlated significantly with age, knee angle, and frame size-inseam ratio. These results may be used to define the best frame size of bike no prevent cycling-related musculoskeletal problems. KEYWORDSCycling; musculoskeletal problems

Abstract

Background: Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor used for the treatment of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections, is now one of the most widely used antiretroviral drug. This is largely due to its high antiretroviral activity, relatively good metabolic profile and more importantly good compliance as it has a once-daily dosing. However, tenofovir disoproxil fumarate can induce renal toxicity which can be attributed to the accumulation of such drug in the proximal renal tubular cells, leading to mitochondrial toxicity, and subsequent renal tubular acidosis leading to acute kidney injury. Objective: This study was designed to investigate whether hydrochlorthiazide has renoprotective effects on tenofovir disoproxil fumarate -induced nephrotoxicity in rats. Methods: Twenty eight healthy adult male albino rats weighing 180-200g were utilized in this study. Rats were randomly divided into four groups (7animals each). Group I: Negative control (given distilled water) orally by gavage tube for 5 weeks; Group II: Rats orally received 600 mg/kg/day tenofovir disoproxil fumarate by gavage tube for 5 weeks; Group III: Rats administered hydrochlorothiazide alone at a dose (10 mg/kg/day) by gavage tube for 5 weeks and Group IV: Rats administered hydrochlorothiazide at a dose (10 mg/kg/day) plus tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 600 mg/kg/day by gavage tube for 5 weeks. Results: Administration of hydrochlorothiazide plus tenofovir disoproxil fumarate to rats for 5 weeks produced significant elevation (P<0.05) of MDA content and a significant reduction (P<0.05) in the total antioxidant level in renal homogenate compared to the corresponding levels of negative control animals. Conclusion: treatment with hydrochlorothiazide plus tenofovir disoproxil fumarate in an attempt to prevent the renal toxicity-induced by tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is not effective for inhibiting oxidative stress process.

Abstract

Aqueous extract of grape seed was prepared for the purpose of studying its effect in inhibiting the growth of some pathogenic bacterial and fungal isolates. Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aurus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Proteus mirobillis. The effect of extract concentrations was studied and the effect varied with the concentration on these isolates. The effect of the same extract on C.albicans was studied. The result was also show the higher concentration of the extract appeared the greater inhibitory effect on C. albicans. The effect of some antibacterial and antifungal agents was also studied. The inhibitory effect varied according to the species of bacteria.at the other hand nystatin showed higher inhibitory effect with inhibition zone 8, 9, 10mm. Abstract

This study was conducted on a number of samples of the most used bottled water found in the governorate markets (Lojin, Thaghir, Sawa, Al Waha, Manar, Rawdatain, Nawar, Al Khaleej, and Albakhera). The samples were between 200 500 and 1500 m The study included detection of total colon bacteria and some physical and chemical properties, namely pH, total dissolved solids, calcium, magnesium, chlorides and sulphates in mg / l unit. The results showed that all samples were acceptable and suitable for using the pylogia, which were within the Iraqi standard of drinking except for the water of the hole where it was polluted (15) colon colony of colon, but globally samples were water oasis and Roumtin and Manar are samples only drinkable, as for the physical and chemical tests were all the characteristics And all samples are acceptable within the Iraqi and international standards for drinking water, but most of the values were greater than mentioned on cans mentioned by the manufacturers.Keywords: Bottled water, Bacteria, Hardness, Sulphate, chloride.

Abstract

Ladle-kowi is a liquid steel of tool transportation coming from the induction industry. There are two designs of Ladle-kowi such as; Ladle-kowi designed to be operated by one-operator weighing at 15 kg and Ladle-kowi operated by two-operator weighing at 50 kg. Diverse design drafts of Ladle-kowi affect the differences in physical and mental burdens received by every worker. Up to now, the use Ladle-kowi in the metal casting industry of induction system has become a necessity that functioned as a tool for the transport and distribution of liquid steel into the molds. Problems faced by many workers are on the selection of ladle-kowi which will affect the physiological condition of the human body in the form of exposure and fatigue on peripheral skin surface temperature. Human nature has the ability, skill and limitations of laboring which has not been used as a parameter for determining comfortable and safe working conditions. This study aims to determine the level of exposure of the skin surface temperature and the level of fatigue which is then used as the basis of proposals to improve working conditions and serve as the basis of recommendations for a more convenient and safe Ladle-kowi usage. The subjects in this study was workers in the metal casting industry using the facility in the form of Ladle-kowi with one-operator with a capacity of 15 kg filled with molten steel and Two-operator Ladle-Kowi filled with liquid steel capacity of 50 kg. This study belongs to the category of taxonomic research in the form of cross sectional analytic. Subjectsw were randomly selected from all workers in the metal casting industry of induction system. Samples taken were 14 people who have been taken and met the criteria for inclusion and exclusion. The results showed that exposure to the skin surface temperature is lower (0,03OC) than when workers used one-operator ladle-kowi compared with workers using two-operator ladle-kowi. There is a strong positive correlation patterns of exposure time to the degree of exposure to the skin surface temperature. The mean score of fatigue in general when using one-operator ladle-kowi is 97.25 ± 10.75 consisting of activities fatigue by 32.67 ± 4.78, motivational fatigue by 33.50 ± 5.58, and physical fatigue by 31.08 ± 6, 10, while the mean score of fatigue in general when using two-operator ladle-kowi reached 93.58 ± 10.25  consisting of activities fatigue by 29.33 ± 2.00, motivational fatigue by 31.83 ± 6.14, and physical fatigue by 32,42 ± 5.35. Only in aspects of activities fatigue, they experienced the highest fatigue differences of 10.20% (p <0.05) using one-operator ladle-kowi than to using the two-operator ladle-kowi. Conclusion: The use of one-operator ladle-kowi is better when compared with the use two-operator ladle-kowi, seen from the level of exposure of the surface temperature of the skin, but two-operator ladle-kowi is better when compared to using a one-operator ladle-kowi, seen from the average value of general fatigue (down 3.77%). One-operator ladle-kowi needed improvements in the form of a  working re-organization so that workers' fatigue can be lowered, while the to operators ladle-kowi required the addition of a shield mounted on a frame ladle-kowi to reduce the radiated heat of molten steel

Abstract

The presented study aimed to investigate the effect of the addition of different concentration of rosemary and Thyme powder on the quality and stability of beef burger. Ten treatment  with different concentration of rosemary and thyme T1 (Control) T2(2%) rosemary, T3(4%) rosemary, T4(6%) rosemary, T5(2%)thyme, T6(4%)thyme, T7(6%), T8(rosemary6% + 2% theme), T9( 4% rosemary+ 2%thyme), T10(2%rosemary+4%thyme) were added to beef meat and stored for 0,7,10 weeks. shaped after each period of storage, cooked and evaluated .The obtained results indicated that the best sensory quality was noticed at the lowest concentration 2% of both rosemary and thyme and  there was a significant improvement of odor, flavours, color, and over all acceptability of investigated samples were observed at 0,7,10 weeks. On the other hand, improvement in sensory characteristics could be noticed in sensory characteristics in samples treated with thyme or rosemary 4% concentration after seventh weak storage compared with control samples. High concentration (6%) of added rosemary or thyme to treated samples revealed UN overall acceptability in sensory characteristics.Keywords: Thyme, Rosemary, Herbes, Beef burger Patties and sensory characteristics.

Abstract

Among the vigorous anticancer factors, 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) has been presented fantastic capability against several types of tumor cells. Chitosan-covered super paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (CS-SPION) were synthesized and applied as a nano-carrier for loading of 5-FU (CS-5-FU-SPION) through a reverse micro emulsion technique. In the final preparation process the nanosystem was folic acid functionalized (FA-CS-5-FU-SPION) for targeted therapy purposes. This nanoformulation was studied towards bladder cancer cell lines. Each size and morphology characteristic was evaluated by zeta sizer, AFM and FESEM. Fluorescence microscopy was used to determining the cell internalization rate of prepared nanosystem. Cell viability and apoptosis were surveyed by MTT assay and flowcytometry method respectively. The data indicated that the prepared FA-CS-5-FU-SPION has spherical shape with 79 ± 13 nm average diameter size and appropriate polydispersity rate. Additionally, the remarkable drug loading efficiency (~73%) was notable. This FA-CS-5-FU-SPION also demonstrated sustained release of 5-FU at 37 ◦C in both phosphate and citrate buffer solutions separately. Then the MTT assay and flow cytometry study indicated significant cell toxicity and apoptosis induction by FA-CS-5-FU-SPION. The results supported the fact that FA-CS-5-FU-SPION had become greatly represented antitumor characteristics. In the other hands no adverse outcome were reported for normal cells. Furthermore, it became proved that the FITC-labeled FA-CS-5-FU-SPION, has an effectively entrance into cancerous cell and stimulate cell death and apoptosis.Keywords: Nanoformulation, Chitosan, 5-Fluorouracil, Magnetic nanoparticle, Bladder cancer.

Abstract

Abstract: The present study describes the application of Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment Water Quality Index (CCME WQI) for for twenty-one stations along the Al-Gharraf River from  Kut Dam when the river branching from Tigris to its end in the northern of Nassiria city. Sixteen water quality parameters under investigation were as follows: WT (9–33°C), pH (6.51–8.25), NTU (11–157), EC (700–1652 μS/cm), TDS (448–1057.23 mg/l), TSS (23–194 mg/l), DO (3.42–10.8 mg/l), BOD5 (0.79–9.07 mg/l), TH (218–689 mg/l), CL (87–381.3 mg/l), SO4 (111.8–469 mg/l), NO3 (3.01–33 mg/l), PO4 (0.107–0.964 mg/l), Pb (0.007–0.242 ppm), FC (180–97000 cfu/100ml) and CHL-a (0.033–9.534 mg/l). were used during the period from December, 2016 to November, 2017.Based on the results of this application, the general surface water quality in the Al-Gharraf River is found to be not suitable for use as drinking water without elaborate treatment, poor for aquatic life protection and fair for irrigation.Keywords: CCME WQI, GIS , Water quality, Al-Gharraf River.
