Abstract

Anatomically the waist is the area of the L1 spine to the sacrum and the muscles around it. The waist area has an important function in the human body, namely making the body stand upright, movement, and protecting several important organs in it. Hernia nucleus pulposus (HNP) is a disease, where the soft pad between the vertebrae (soft gel disc or nucleus pulposus) experiences pressure in one of the posterior or lateral parts so that the nucleus pulposus ruptures and falls out so that there is a protrusion through the annulus fibrosus into the spinal canal and causes compression of the nerve roots. The diagnosis of HNP can be confirmed by anamnesis, physical examination and several supporting examinations such as plain lumbosacral photos, CT scans, and MRI as the gold standard for diagnosing HNP because it can detect the location of compression of the spinal cord and caudaequina

Abstract

In the elderly, the cardiovascular system will experience changes, such as arteries losing their elasticity, which can cause an increase in pulse and systolic blood pressure. Elderly exercise utilizes movement by activating the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems and increasing the release of various hormones which cause the individual's condition to relax. Elderly exercise is a physical activity that is useful for eliminating fat and cholesterol in blood vessels. This exercise is rarely carried out routinely at research sites. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of elderly exercise on hypertension in the elderly at the Sei Lekop Community Health Center. This study used a pre-experimental research design with a one group pre-post test design with probability sampling, involving 31 elderly people with hypertension. Blood pressure was measured with a spygmomanometer and elderly exercise was carried out according to procedures. Data analysis was carried out using paired t-test. The results showed that the average blood pressure before the intervention was 150.00/94.48 mmHg, whereas after the intervention the average blood pressure was 140.48/90.48 mmHg, with a p value = 0.001 for systolic pressure and 0.003 for diastolic pressure, so it was proven that there was a significant influence on blood pressure before and after the elderly exercise intervention was given to the elderly at the Sei Lekop Community Health Center. It is hoped that elderly exercise can be used and become a work program at the Community Health Center which is carried out routinely for both elderly people with hypertension and those who are healthy.

Abstract

Pulmonary TB in children is an infection caused by the germ Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. Pulmonary TB is transmitted from human to other human through the air when a BTA positive pulmonary TB sufferer talks, sneezes or coughs and indirectly the sufferer emits phlegm splashes in the air and there are ±3000 phlegm splashes containing germs. This research was conducted to determine the factors associated with the incidence of pulmonary TB in children at the Embung Fatimah Regional Hospital Polyclinic. The research method is descriptive with a cross sectional design. The sample consisted of 34 pediatric TB patients at the Embung Fatimah Regional Hospital Polyclinic using a sampling technique, namely total sampling. Data were processed using the chi square test. The results of this study show that there is no significant relationship between BCG immunization status and the incidence of pulmonary TB in children (P value of 0.450 > 0.05), there is a significant relationship between contact with TB sufferers and the incidence of TB in children (P value of 0.021 > 0.05), and there is a significant relationship between family smoking status and TB sufferers and the incidence of TB in children (P value of 0.014 > 0.05). It is hoped that the role of nurses can overcome the problem of childhood TB through health promotion and increasing immunization coverage for children in the community.

Abstract

Malaria is a parasitic infection disease caused by Plasmodium and is a global health issue. The search for new antimalarial drugs from natural sources, such as plants, is ongoing to find effective alternatives. Sargassum duplicatum, a brown seaweed, has been known to possess various biological activities; however, its antimalarial potential has not been thoroughly explored. This study aims to evaluate the antimalarial activity of S. duplicatum extract against Plasmodium berghei strain ANKA in vivo in mice. This is an experimental study. A total of 16 mice were divided into 4 groups: a positive control group and groups infected with P. berghei and treated with S. duplicatum extract at doses of 10, 100, and 200 mg/g body weight. Antimalarial activity was measured based on parasitemia levels, percent inhibition, and ED50 values. Parasitemia measurements were taken from day 0 to day 6 after treatment. The results showed that S. duplicatum extract inhibited the growth of P. berghei with parasitemia inhibition percentages of 65.32% at a dose of 10 mg/g body weight, 65.92% at a dose of 100 mg/g body weight, and 86.61% at a dose of 200 mg/g body weight. The ED50 value of S. duplicatum extract was 2.770 mg/kg body weight in mice. The low ED50 value indicates the extract’s potential as a promising antimalarial drug candidate.

Abstract

The prevalence of Schizophrenia in adults is about 1 in 222 people (0.45%). Families caring for members suffering from schizophrenia need to build resilience to cope with the stress and pressure they face. Resilience is the process of staying firm and able to overcome existing sufferings, difficulties, and challenges. The purpose of this study is to find out the picture of family resilience in treating Schizophrenia patients. This type of research is quantitative observational with a descriptive approach. The population consists of all families caring for 100 schizophrenia patients. The number of samples in this study was 80 people with an accidental sampling technique. The family resilience measurement tool uses the Connor-Davidson Resillience Scale (CD-RISC) questionnaire containing 25 statements with aspects of emotional regulation, impulse control, optimism, analysis of the cause of problems, empathy, self-efficacy, and reaching out. Univariate analysis in this study includes frequency distribution. The results of the study showed that family resilience was in the high category as many as 49 people (61.3%), medium category as many as 30 people (37.5%) and low category as many as 1 person (1.2%). It is expected that families will increase family resilience by participating in self-efficacy training, learning skills in relieving existing emotions, focusing on optimism so that they can reduce the stress experienced in caring for their family members who suffer from schizophrenia.
