Abstract

A key issue in this initiative is the low level of media literacy and news writing skills among the younger generation in Terungkulon Village, as evidenced by students’ inability to analyze, filter, and present information objectively in the face of rampant fake news. Participatory Action Research (PAR), which requires active participant involvement, was employed to conduct journalism mentoring activities aimed at addressing this issue. Observation and interviews were used as data collection methods, while basic journalism resources, news analysis, and hands-on news writing exercises were employed to carry out the activities. The results of the exercises showed an improvement in students’ understanding of news structure, methodical information processing, and independent news writing. Critical thinking skills, self-confidence, and knowledge of journalistic ethics all improved. The main conclusion from this activity is that journalism education is effective in improving media literacy and writing skills, and is capable of fostering active learning as a source of knowledge that is critical, educational, and engaging for the general public.

Abstract

Issues related to cleanliness and environmental utilization around this educational institution are the main focus of this community service program. This initiative aims to describe and examine the relationship between ABA Bebekan Kindergarten and the residents of Bebekan Village, Taman District, Sidoarjo, in an effort to create a beautiful, clean, and comfortable environment that also functions as a means of character education for early childhood. The method applied is a descriptive qualitative approach and data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation collection. The subjects of this activity include students, teachers, and the community around the school. The results of the activity indicate that collaboration through social activities, tree planting, utilization of empty spaces, and simple waste management can improve environmental conditions in schools and foster environmental awareness as well as attitudes of responsibility, discipline, and cooperation among students. Changes are seen in the improvement of the quality of the physical environment at school and the development of good behavior in students' daily lives. Therefore, collaboration between schools and communities is an effective approach to creating environmental character and sustainable early childhood education.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the boarding school environment to create comfort for students, as well as the existing issues related to suboptimal cleanliness management at Al-Falah Islamic Boarding School Siwalanpanji, Buduran, Sidoarjo. The purpose of this study is to analyze the environmental cleanliness program in improving students’ comfort. The method used in this activity is a participatory community service approach, which involves all elements of the boarding school, especially the students, directly in the implementation of the cleanliness program. The results show that the cleanliness program is carried out through three main stages: planning, which includes problem identification, program formulation, and preparation; implementation in the form of cleaning activities such as maintaining the boarding school environment, organizing facilities, and maintaining infrastructure; and evaluation, which indicates an improvement in cleanliness and students’ comfort, although there are still challenges in maintaining consistency. Therefore, it can be concluded that the environmental cleanliness program plays an important role in creating a clean, healthy, and comfortable environment, as well as in fostering students’ discipline and sense of responsibility in a sustainable manner.
