Abstract

Forensic nursing is a new field that has yet to be widely recognized in Indonesia. Despite the high crime rate and the large number of forensic case patients who come to the emergency department (ED), there are still no specific regulations governing such cases. This study aims to explore the application of forensic nursing in EDs in Yogyakarta. A qualitative exploratory study was conducted. The researchers conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews in the EDs of government and private hospitals in Yogyakarta Province, Indonesia. The participants were 12 ED nurses who handled forensic cases. Triangulation was conducted through interviews with two ED head nurses and three security staff, as well as a review of medical records. The data analysis comprised identifying meaning units, conducting initial and refined coding, grouping them into categories, and generating themes using the forensic nursing paradigm approach. This study identified the following themes: (1) forensic nursing cases, (2) nursing roles and responsibilities in forensic cases, (3) the significance of crime evidence, (4) forensic nursing implementation support, and (5) challenges and needs in implementing forensic nursing. This study found that forensic nursing has been implemented in Eds in Yogyakarta. However, it has not been effectively executed.

Abstract

Adolescents living in orphanages face a high risk of health problems, making the assessment of their health-related quality of life (HRQoL) critical. Characterizing gender-based variations in HRQoL is essential to understanding the distinct healthcare needs of this vulnerable population. This study aimed to evaluate gender-specific differences in HRQoL and identify associated factors among adolescents living in orphanages. A total of 238 adolescents (112 males, 126 females) aged 13-18 years were recruited through convenience sampling from 16 orphanages in Malang City, East Java, Indonesia. HRQoL was measured using the KIDSCREEN-27 Child and Adolescent Version, which assesses five dimensions: physical well-being, psychological well-being, autonomy and parent relations, peers and social support, and school environment. Group comparisons were conducted using independent samples t-tests and one-way ANOVA, and multiple-regression analysis was employed to examine factors of HRQoL. Results showed significant gender differences in total HRQoL scores, with females having lower scores than males (p < 0.05). Female adolescents also had lower scores in the physical well-being (p < 0.05) and psychological well-being (p < 0.05) dimensions. Conversely, no significant gender differences were found in autonomy and parent relations, peers and social support, or school environment dimensions. Only age was significantly associated with HRQoL among male adolescents. These findings suggest that female adolescents in orphanages have lower HRQoL scores than their male counterparts, particularly in physical and psychological health. This highlights the importance of incorporating gender-specific considerations in future interventions to improve HRQoL among adolescents living in orphanages.

Abstract

The presence of digital technology has brought changes to various aspects of human life, influencing the formation of individual character, particularly among adolescents whose primary developmental task is identity formation. This research employed an exploratory qualitative design to explore perceptions of digital technology and the needs of adolescents in identity formation amid the challenges posed by digital technology. Data were collected through focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with 24 participants selected using purposive sampling techniques. The focus groups included adolescents, parents, teachers, and nurses. In-depth interviews were conducted with the Elementary and Secondary Education Curriculum Section of the Banyumas Regency Education Office and the school health program coordinator at the Banyumas Regency Health Office. Data analysis was carried out using the Colaizzi approach. The study found that digital technology offers adolescents with opportunities to socialize, access knowledge sources, develop talents, creativity, and innovation, and boost self-confidence. However, excessive use of digital technology poses risks that threaten physical, emotional, and social well-being, potentially hindering identity formation. Adolescents require to have a strong character, self-regulation skills, and support from various parties working synergistically. These results providevaluable insights for designing appropriate interventions to support adolescent identity formation

Abstract

The CO-PARTNER instrument was developed to measure parental participation in neonatal care settings, but an Indonesian-language version is not currently available. The purpose of this study was to adapt the CO-PARTNER instrument for cross-cultural use in Indonesian. Cross-cultural adaptation was conducted following Sousa's guidelines. Psychometric testing was conducted between September and December 2025. Eligibility criteria for participants were parents of infants admitted to a neonatal care unit. The study involved 257 respondents. The questionnaire's structural variables were tested using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) in RStudio version 4.5.2. Based on established CFA criteria, one item (CCI 31) was eliminated due to low factor loading, resulting in a refined CO-PARTNER structure comprising 30 items across six domains. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients demonstrated strong internal consistency at both initial testing and retest for each of the six subscales (all > 0.70). Model fit indices showed satisfactory values: Comparative Fit Index (CFI) = 0.994; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA)=0.044; and degrees of freedom (DF)=390. The CO-PARTNER Indonesia Version proved to be a reliable and valid tool for evaluating parental involvement in infant care within neonatal care units across six key components: daily care, medical care, acquiring information, parent advocacy, time spent with the infant, and closeness and comforting of the infant. The CO-PARTNER Indonesia Version is applicable for assessing parental involvement in neonatal wards, where such participation contributes to improved outcomes for both infants and parents
