Abstract

This research focused on measuring students' critical thinking skills in the topic of chemical equilibrium. The instrument used is an essay test consisting of 8 questions. Data collection took place from March to April 2024. The sample size was 80 students. Data were analyzed using the Rasch Model with Winsteps 5.6.0. The instrument underwent testing for unidimensional, validity (item fit), reliability, item difficulty level (item measure), and individual ability level (person measure). The analysis showed that the instrument had a person reliability of 0.64 and item reliability of 0.96. The interaction between person and items is displayed on the Wright Map and Scalogram. The analysis of person and items provided significant information about the participants' abilities and the difficulty levels of the tested questions. A total of 4 respondents were identified as misfit according to the model. The identification of person misfit also plays a role in understanding patterns of responses that do not align with the model. The findings of this study can serve as a reflection for both students and lecturers regarding students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Lack of students' understanding of the concept of chemical equilibrium causes many misconceptions to occur. Chemical equilibrium is one of the topics in chemistry that consists of various concepts that are interconnected, sequential, and organized, so it is often considered complex and causes misconceptions. This study aims to analyze students' misconceptions on the topic of chemical equilibrium and determine its percentage. This study used a mixed method with an explanatory sequential design. The subjects of the study involved 30 students of class XI Tahfiz SMA IT Fadhilah Pekanbaru. The data collection instrument was in the form of essay questions with a reliability coefficient of 0.814 and empirical validity showed 10 valid questions and 3 invalid questions. Data analysis techniques were carried out after collecting test results, including data processing and interpretation to identify misconceptions. The results showed that 17% of students from the total sample had misconceptions. The lowest misconception occurred in indicator (10), namely determining the direction of equilibrium shifts influenced by temperature, with a percentage of 3.33%. Meanwhile, the highest misconception was found in indicator (8), namely determining the direction of equilibrium shift influenced by concentration, with a percentage of 46.67%. Based on these results, it is concluded that the misconceptions that occurred in the sample were in the low category. This shows that the learning method used is quite effective in improving conceptual understanding.

Abstract

This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) aimed to measuring the improvement in students’ motivation and learning outcomes through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model using interactive flipbook media on acid-base material. The sample used consisted of 30 students from class XI-3 at SMA Negeri 14 Surabaya. The research consisted of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The instruments used were pre-test and post-test to assess the improvement in cognitive learning outcomes, and a learning motivation questionnaire to measure students’ affective aspects. The results showed that the average N-Gain score increased from 0.61 (moderate category) in the first cycle to 0.76 (high category) in the second cycle. A significant improvement was also observed in students’ learning motivation, increasing from an average percentage of 52.26% in the first cycle to 84.03% in the second cycle after the learning process was carried out. Based on these data, it can be concluded that the application of the discovery learning model using interactive flipbook media is effective in enhancing students’ motivation and learning outcomes in chemistry learning, particularly in acid-base material. The results also indicate that this model and media can serve as an innovative and engaging alternative strategy for future chemistry education.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement in students’ cognitive learning outcomes and self-efficacy through the use of Google Sites as a learning medium. The study was conducted at SMA Laboratorium UM in class X.4 in the 2024/2025 academic year with 36 students. The study was conducted using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. The instruments used were observation sheets, test questions, and self-efficacy questionnaires. The study results showed that the implementation of learning in cycle I was 88.28% and in cycle II was 90.50%. In addition, students’ cognitive learning outcomes increased, as evidenced by the students’ classical completeness rate, which rose from 44.44% in cycle I to 88.89% in cycle II. Students’ self-efficacy also increased from 24.50 to 30.14 in cycle II and was categorised as high. Thus, the use of Google Sites as a learning medium has been shown to improve students’ cognitive learning outcomes and self-efficacy in the context of the Basic Laws of Chemistry material.
