Abstract

Education students of Universitas Ma’arif Nahdlatul Ulama (UMNU) Kebumen in collaboration with Bimbel Ekuivalen, a non-formal tutoring center in Logede Village, Pejagoan Subdistrict, Kebumen Regency, Indonesia. Grounded in the principles of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), the program was designed to improve children’s English-speaking skills through a structured, seven-meeting module covering greetings and introductions, asking permission, family, hobbies, food and drink, weather, and shopping expressions. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data gathered through classroom observation, field notes, and documentation, and analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings indicate that children’s speaking competence developed across four dimensions: confidence, vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency. Structured speech templates and dialogue scaffolds, consistent with Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development, were instrumental in reducing speaking anxiety, while personally relevant topics enhanced motivation and participation. Role-play and pair-work activities further strengthened interactive and pragmatic competence, particularly in distinguishing formal and informal registers. The study concludes that thematic, scaffolded, and interactive ESP-based instruction is effective in developing young learners’ basic English-speaking skills in non-formal educational settings, and that collaboration between university students and community tutoring institutions offers mutual benefits: practical teaching experience for prospective educators and systematic language instruction for children beyond the formal school curriculum. The findings contribute to the growing literature on ESP-based community service learning and offer practical implications for the design of speaking modules in similar non-formal contexts

Abstract

Early English language learning plays an important role in preparing young learners to face global challenges. However, children often encounter various difficulties in learning English, including low self-confidence, limited vocabulary, and the use of teaching methods that are not aligned with their developmental characteristics. The EngKids Corner community service program was implemented as part of the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course to improve children's English vocabulary mastery and self-confidence through interactive, enjoyable learning activities at Gerha Tara Learning Center in Karangpule Village, Sruweng District, Kebumen Regency. The program involved approximately 15 participants aged 4–12 years who attended weekly learning sessions over five meetings. The learning materials included numbers, colors, shapes, family, body parts, fruits and vegetables, and a DIY Mixed Jelly Ice activity. The instructional methods integrated Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), Task-Based Learning (TBL), Total Physical Response (TPR), the Audio-Lingual Method (ALM), and Cooperative Learning. The learning process was conducted through educational games, songs, worksheets, demonstrations, and collaborative activities, reflecting Gerha Tara's learning philosophy of learning through play. The results demonstrated improvements in participants' engagement, English vocabulary acquisition, and confidence in using simple English expressions. Overall, the program had a positive impact on participants' motivation to learn and served as an effective alternative for non-formal English learning for children in the community.

Abstract

This Community Service activity aims to improve the competence and creativity of elementary school Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) teachers in developing interactive learning media based on traditional games. The activity was held in the Hall of SDN 1 Jagaraga, Kuripan District, West Lombok Regency, involving 18 elementary school PJOK teachers. The method used was Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) through stages of coordination, pre-test, material delivery, workshop, media development practice, implementation simulation, mentoring, and post-test. The activity evaluation was carried out using pretest and posttest instruments consisting of 20 questions to measure five competency indicators, namely understanding the concept of interactive learning media, utilizing traditional games as learning media, the ability to design media, the ability to implement media in PE lessons, and the ability to evaluate and develop learning media. The results showed an improvement in participants' competencies, indicated by the increase in the average pretest score from 56.39 (fair category) to 86.94 (excellent category), with an average increase of 30.56 points. The summary of the results also showed a change in participants' competency categories, where before the mentoring, 61.1% of participants were in the fair category and 38.9% in the poor category, while after mentoring, 66.7% of participants reached the excellent category and 33.3% were in the good category. Besides improving conceptual understanding, this activity produces interactive learning media products based on traditional games that are ready to be applied in PE classes. Therefore, the mentoring program has proven effective in enhancing teachers' professional competence while encouraging more innovative, context-based learning that also preserves traditional games as part of local wisdom

Abstract

This community engagement project was initiated in response to parenting challenges faced by mothers in Sidomulyo Village, Batu District, Batu City, particularly in adapting affectionate and empathetic parenting styles amidst rapid technological developments. Many parents struggle with maintaining effective communication with their children, often resorting to punitive methods due to a lack of understanding of gentle parenting principles. To address this issue, a social campaign applying social marketing communication strategies was implemented. The program involved training sessions, workshops, and seminars designed to introduce and promote the core values of gentle parenting, including empathetic listening, setting loving boundaries, and practicing positive communication. Approximately 30 mothers participated in this initiative. The implementation methods included direct assistance in applying parenting techniques in daily life. The outcomes showed 72% increase in participants’ awareness and understanding of positive parenting approaches, along with improved emotional communication within families. Additionally, a support group was established to encourage ongoing discussion and mutual support among mothers. This initiative is expected to foster long-term behavioral changes and contribute to the development of a more nurturing parenting culture within the community

Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a major food commodity that plays a strategic role in supporting food security and the economy of rural communities. Nunggal Rejo Village, Punggur District, Central Lampung Regency, is one of the agricultural areas where most of the community depends on the agricultural sector, particularly lowland rice cultivation. However, farmers still face various challenges in its implementation, especially due to pest and disease attacks as well as limited knowledge regarding the application of integrated pest and disease management. This community service activity aimed to improve farmers' knowledge and skills in implementing rice cultivation techniques and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The activity was conducted in June 2025 in Nunggal Rejo Village, Punggur District, Central Lampung Regency, using extension methods, interactive discussions, and knowledge evaluations conducted before and after the activity. The materials provided included rice cultivation techniques, identification of major rice pests and diseases, utilization of natural enemies, and environmentally friendly pest management strategies. The results showed an increase in farmers' understanding of rice cultivation and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) implementation. Before the extension activity, most farmers still relied on the routine use of chemical pesticides. After the activity, farmers began to understand the importance of applying IPM principles through the use of resistant varieties, balanced fertilization, environmental sanitation, water management, and the utilization of natural enemies. Based on the evaluation results, participants' knowledge increased from 50% before the extension activity to 90% after the activity. The application of rice cultivation technology and Integrated Pest Management is expected to increase crop productivity, reduce dependence on chemical pesticides, and support the development of sustainable agriculture in Nunggal Rejo Village, Punggur District, Central Lampung Regency

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in supporting local economic development; however, many still face challenges in establishing a strong brand identity and effectively utilizing digital marketing. One such enterprise is Warung Makan Sumringah, located in Ardiarsa Village, Kertanegara District, Purbalingga Regency, which relied primarily on word-of-mouth promotion and lacked a distinctive visual identity. This community service program aimed to rebrand the business, enhance the owner's digital marketing capabilities, expand market reach through social media, and improve the enterprise's competitiveness. The program was implemented through four stages: observation and problem identification, rebranding, digital marketing strategy implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. The results showed that the program successfully developed a new visual identity, including a professional logo, banner, and business stamp. In addition, an Instagram account was created as a digital promotional platform, followed by training and mentoring on social media-based marketing strategies for the business owner. Monitoring results indicated that all program outputs had been adopted and utilized by the partner, including the consistent use of the new visual identity and the active use of Instagram for promotional activities. The average number of customers increased from approximately 20 customers per day to 30–50 customers per day, while the newly established Instagram account gained 26 followers during the mentoring period. Overall, the program contributed to strengthening the partner's digital marketing capacity, enhancing brand identity, and improving the competitiveness of the culinary MSME

Abstract

Limited digital skills and the cost of packaging design are among the challenges faced by household-scale business actors in developing product identity and attractiveness. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge, digital skills, creativity, and independence of members of the Secawati Women Farmers Group, located in Krasak Village, Jatibarang District, Indramayu Regency, in creating packaging labels for processed agricultural products using Gemini AI. The activity was held on August 24, 2025, in Krasak Village, Jatibarang District, Indramayu Regency, and involved members of the Secawati Women Farmers Group, who operate various processed-food businesses. The implementation methods included lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual practice using smartphones. Participants received materials on the functions of packaging labels, essential product information, prompt formulation, and the stages of creating label designs with Gemini AI. Evaluation was conducted descriptively based on participants’ practical outputs and responses from 20 participants, collected through a closed-ended Likert-scale questionnaire and open-ended questions, using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) framework. The results showed that participants were able to produce more attractive and informative label designs suited to their products' characteristics. Based on the participants’ dominant responses, performance expectancy accounted for the largest proportion at 40%, followed by effort expectancy at 25%, social influence at 20%, and facilitating conditions at 15%. These findings indicate that the perceived benefit of improved design quality was the primary factor influencing acceptance of Gemini AI. However, some participants still required assistance with formulating prompts and using the features, and faced limitations related to devices and internet access. Overall, the activity indicated improvements in participants’ digital literacy, creativity, and independence in developing product identities

Abstract

Gross motor skills and body balance are crucial elements of child development, directly influencing both learning readiness and daily activities. Increasingly sedentary lifestyles and a reliance on technology have contributed to a decline in the physical fitness of primary school children. This community service initiative aimed to improve the body balance and gross motor skills of students at MI Cokroaminoto by utilizing the traditional game of engklek (hopscotch). The program employed a participatory approach involving 46 students and was conducted in stages, comprising classroom education, warm-ups, technique demonstrations, structured gameplay, and evaluation. Assessments were carried out through pre- and post-activity observations, measuring indicators such as body balance, agility, and accuracy in throwing the game marker gaco. Results showed an increase in the average score from 72.78 in the pre-test to 77.53 in the post-test (an increase of 4.75 points or 6.52%), with 29 of the 46 students demonstrating improved physical performance. Overall evaluation revealed that 17 students met the established criteria, while 29 required further guidance as they had not yet reached the required benchmarks. The initiative concludes that the traditional game of engklek is an effective kinesthetic intervention tool for enhancing gross motor coordination, body stability, and self-confidence among primary school students

Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) in Tanjunganom Village, Rakit Subdistrict, Banjarnegara Regency, was implemented to address the issues of low literacy, social engagement, and technological adaptation among the residents of this village, known as the “Village of a Thousand Ponds.” The goal of this community service initiative is to enhance the community’s capacity through education, innovation, and empowerment based on local potential.  The method used was a participatory and collaborative approach, with strategies including the development of extracurricular activities, the strengthening of religious activities, anti-bullying awareness campaigns, the promotion of reading, and education on safe internet use for young children. The results of the community service project showed an increase in children’s participation in positive activities strengthening religious values and raising public awareness about the wise use of technology. Although there was resistance from some freshwater fish farmers who felt the program was not relevant to their economic needs, the Community Service Program (KKN) still had a significant social impact and opened up opportunities for collaboration toward sustainable village development.

Abstract

Permata Baru Village, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, generates cassava waste in the form of peels, stems, leaves, and processing pulp. These materials are commonly piled, discarded, or burned, creating odors and smoke while leaving their potential value unused. This community service program aimed to improve community knowledge and practical skills in managing cassava waste through a zero-waste approach and converting it into compost, fermented feed, and growing media. The main activity was conducted on 23 October 2025 using a participatory community-empowerment approach. Logistical records covered 25 people in total, including community participants and the implementation team; community participants represented cassava farmers, cassava-processing microbusinesses, women from local households, and village officials. Activities included needs identification, circular-economy education, technology demonstrations, hands-on practice, immediate evaluation, and follow-up planning. The program produced three initial outputs: compost starter, fermented feed stored anaerobically, and cassava-pulp growing media. More than 90% of end-of-session respondents stated that they could independently repeat the composting steps. Immediate impacts included stronger awareness of alternatives to piling and burning, improved procedural confidence, use of growing media for household vegetables, and a commitment to establish a village waste-management group. Because waste volume, income, product quality, and livestock performance were not measured over time, these outcomes are interpreted as short-term capacity and behavioral-intention changes. Continued monitoring, product-quality testing, feed-safety supervision, and organizational strengthening are required before larger-scale production and marketing
