Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of social stratification and resistance in James Cameron’s Titanic (1997). Beyond its image as a romantic tragedy, the film serves as a social commentary that exposes the inequality of early twentieth-century capitalist society. Through the contrasting lives of Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater, Titanic illustrates how class distinctions influence human experience in terms of economy, culture, space, and gender. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the research analyzes selected scenes and dialogues as primary data. The study draws on the theories of Karl Marx, Max Weber, and Pierre Bourdieu to build a multidimensional understanding of class hierarchy and social resistance. The findings reveal that the film portrays social division through four interrelated aspects: economic disparity that limits access to comfort and survival, cultural boundaries marked by taste and manners, spatial segregation seen in the ship’s structure, and gender oppression as a means of maintaining hierarchy. Yet, Jack and Rose’s relationship symbolizes resistance to these barriers. Their emotional bond and moral courage show that love and humanity can transcend social limits, turning Titanic into a lasting reflection on justice, freedom, and human dignity.

Abstract

The resolution of administrative disputes related to environmental issues has increasingly demonstrated responsiveness towards ensuring ecological justice. Efforts to fulfill ecological justice within the State Administrative Court (PTUN) have started to be reflected in the judges' considerations, which weigh the interests of sustainability and the balance between human and environmental interests, both in the present and in the future. This paper will explore two main issues: (1) whether the practice of resolving state administrative disputes related to environmental issues in Indonesia reflects substantive justice, and (2) how the concept of state administrative dispute resolution related to environmental issues can guarantee the achievement of substantive justice in the future. The findings of this study indicate that (1) several PTUN rulings have taken environmental justice into account as the core of their reasoning, by considering three key principles of environmental justice, such as intergenerational equity, sustainable environment, and the polluter pays principle; (2) there is a need for the internalization of environmental protection principles in state administrative disputes, similar to the position of the principles of AUPB (Administrative Principles of Good Governance) as a benchmark for assessing government actions. The internalization of environmental principles can be implemented through several steps: first, reformulating positive law by revising the PTUN Law to explicitly grant judges the authority to examine the ecological substance of cases; second, enhancing judges' capacity through environmental education; and third, shifting the legal enforcement paradigm to recognize the environment as a legal subject with rights to be protected

Abstract

This study focuses on improving employee discipline and reducing turnover at Toko Citra, a retail MSME in Batam, through the implementation of Fixed-Term Employment Agreements (PKWT) and a digital attendance system. Prior to this project, Toko Citra faced several human resource management issues, including frequent employee turnover due to the absence of formal employment contracts and weak discipline control caused by a manual attendance system. These conditions made workforce management inefficient and disrupted daily operations. Data was collected through direct observation, interviews with the business owner, and documentation during the internship period. Based on the identified problems, PKWT documents were prepared for all employees in accordance with applicable labor regulations, and a digital attendance system using the Gajihub application was implemented. Employees were registered, introduced to the system, and assisted during the initial implementation stage. The results show that employee administration has become more structured and transparent. All employees are now officially bound by PKWT contracts, while the digital attendance system enables real-time monitoring and improves discipline. In the first month, employee attendance reached 87%, indicating positive changes in work discipline. Overall, the implementation of PKWT and digital attendance systems contributed to better workforce stability and supported the operational sustainability of Toko Citra.

Abstract

The increasing number of HIV/AIDS cases in Indonesia requires optimal management through Antiretroviral (ARV) therapy to improve the quality of life of patients. Adherence to ARV medication is a key factor in the success of therapy and achieving optimal quality of life for HIV/AIDS patients (Kemenkes RI, 2024). This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of ARV treatment adherence and the quality of life of HIV/AIDS patients at RSUD Kabupaten Bekasi. The research method used is observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 133 people with HIV/AIDS undergoing ARV therapy, selected using the total sampling technique (Sugiyono, 2020). The results showed a significant relationship between the level of ARV treatment adherence and the quality of life of HIV/AIDS patients (p = 0.001 < 0.05). Based on this research can be concluded that the Correlation Coefficient value of 0.558 indicates a moderate relationship, where high adherence positively influences the quality of life, especially in physical health and patient independence. Frequency distribution showed that 56.7% of respondents had low adherence, 40% moderate, and 3.3% high, with 43.4% having poor quality of life, 46.7% fair, and 10% good.Tthese findings indicate that adherence to ARV treatment plays an important role in improving the quality of life of HIV/AIDS patients. Therefore, continuous education and support are needed to enhance patient adherence.

Abstract

This study aims to explore students’ reflections on the use of Teaching English as an International Language (TEIL)-based materials and digital media in learning World Englishes. The study seeks to understand how TEIL-oriented instruction influences students’ awareness of English diversity, learning engagement, intercultural understanding, and challenges encountered during the learning process. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed. The participants were six fifth-semester students of the English Education Study Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Data were collected through classroom observations, documentation of students’ assignments and presentations, and semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results indicate that the use of TEIL-based materials and digital media contributed positively to students’ learning experiences. Students developed awareness of English diversity, showed higher engagement in learning, increased intercultural awareness, and gained confidence in using English. However, students also experienced difficulties in understanding unfamiliar English varieties, particularly non-standard accents and expressions. The findings highlight the significance of TEIL-based instruction in preparing students for global communication while emphasizing the need for pedagogical guidance and gradual exposure. This study concludes that TEIL-based materials and digital media are effective in supporting World Englishes learning. Future research is recommended to involve larger participant groups and examine instructional strategies for addressing challenges in understanding English diversity.

Abstract

The rapid growth of the fast fashion industry has encouraged companies to utilize digital marketing strategies to attract young consumers. Current consumer preferences for a fashionable appearance encourage fashion entrepreneurs to quickly adapt to consumer tastes. This study used a descriptive qualitative method with a closed-ended survey. Data were collected using a questionnaire from 40 respondents living in Semarang City aged 18-24 years and actively shopping for fast fashion products. The results show that young consumers have a strong preference for digital purchasing channels, especially social media and e-commerce platforms, to obtain fast fashion products. Young consumers make fast fashion purchases at low to moderate levels within one month. This indicates the existence of behavioral control and value considerations in fast fashion product purchasing decisions. A visual and applied approach is also important in digital marketing strategies, especially in the fashion sector, which relies heavily on aesthetic perception and style relevance.

Abstract

This study examines the determination of annual premiums and premium reserves for an endowment joint life insurance product by incorporating interest rate uncertainty through the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross (CIR) stochastic model and Monte Carlo simulation. The Indonesian Mortality Table 2023 is used to compute joint survival probabilities for the three insured individuals, while the CIR parameters are estimated from historical interest rate data for the period 2020-2024. The present value of benefits and annuities is calculated along each simulated path, enabling the premium and premium reserves to be evaluated prospectively based on fluctuating interest rate dynamics. The results show that the magnitude of premiums and reserves is influenced by the initial ages of the insured, the mortality structure, the sum assured, and the variability of the simulated interest rates. At the beginning of the contract, all scenarios produce negative reserves because accumulated premiums are still insufficient to cover the expected present value of benefits. However, the reserves increase steadily over time and turn positive toward the end of the insurance term. These findings indicate that the Monte Carlo approach based on the CIR model provides a more adaptive and realistic representation of premium and reserve behavior compared with deterministic methods, thereby supporting more accurate financial risk assessment for insurance companies.

Abstract

Collaboration among medical personnel is a crucial component in improving the quality of care and patient safety in healthcare facilities. This study aims to analyze management strategies that can enhance the collaborative capabilities of medical personnel at Arafah Anwar Medika Hospital. The study used a descriptive qualitative method through semi-structured interviews with seven informants from various medical professions and structures. The data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach through coding, categorization, and identification of key themes. The results show that collaboration in the hospital has taken various forms, such as cross-unit coordination, communication through digital media, and regular meetings. However, the effectiveness of collaboration is still hampered by limited human resources, differences in perceptions between professions, high workloads, and variations in communication patterns. Management has implemented several strategies, such as excellent communication training, in-house training, and strengthening a patient-oriented culture, but their implementation has not been integrated into the formal collaboration system. Recommended strategies include strengthening cross-professional communication forums, team building activities, interprofessional collaboration training, employee rotation, and the development of collaboration evaluation indicators. This study concludes that management strategies play a significant role in strengthening the collaborative capabilities of medical personnel and are able to support the formation of a sustainable collaborative work culture.
