Abstract

Background: The national exclusive breastfeeding rate has not yet reached the 80% target, a factor partly attributed to a lack of information from healthcare professionals. Current education is limited to basic explanations, without comprehensive guidance or counseling on breastfeeding techniques, lactation management, and how to address breastfeeding issues. As a result, mothers lack understanding of how to maintain exclusive breastfeeding and are easily hesitant when faced with difficulties. Therefore, effective health education with appropriate media is needed to increase mothers' knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding. Booklets and audiovisual media are effective media for increasing the knowledge of breastfeeding mothers because they combine important points with images, stimulate learning, appeal to many senses, and support affective, cognitive, and psychomotor aspects. Objective: To examine effective educational media to increase mothers' knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding with a combination of booklets and audiovisual media. Methods: This research aims to examine effective educational media to increase mothers' knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding with a combination of booklets and audiovisual media. This review used a systematic search of databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar, covering articles from 2020 to 2025. After screening, 13 articles (7 national and 6 international) were selected from the initial 62 articles. The search keywords were "exclusive breastfeeding," "booklets and audiovisuals," "knowledge," and "breastfeeding mothers. Result: The review of the articles presented shows that booklets and audiovisual media have an influence on increasing mothers' knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding. Based on this research can be concluded that  booklets and audiovisual media are effective in increasing knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding by delivering information in an interesting and easy-to-understand manner. These media also support the affective, cognitive, and psychomotor aspects, so that mothers are more confident and consistent in implementing correct breastfeeding practices.

Abstract

Background: Breast milk is a fluid produced by mothers as the best nutritional source for infants. A common problem faced by postpartum mothers is low milk production, and it is not uncommon for mothers to complain that they are unable to produce milk. One method to increase breast milk production is through Woolwich massage and music therapy. Woolwich massage and music therapy are effective non-pharmacological interventions for increasing breast milk production in postpartum mothers. Objective: to examine the effectiveness of Woolwich massage and relaxation music in increasing breast milk production in accordance with previous studies by reviewing several studies. Methods: this review used several sources, including a systematic search of computerized databases (Google Scholar) conducted over the last 5 years (2020-2025). Sixteen journals were obtained during the search, but after reviewing them according to the criteria and title suitability, only eight articles were used, consisting of seven national journals and one international journal. The keywords used in the search included “effectiveness of Woolwich massage”, “effectiveness of relaxation music”, and “increased breast milk production.”. Results: All studies show that Woolwich massage and music therapy are effective non-pharmacological interventions in increasing milk production in postpartum mothers. Conclusion: Woolwich massage and relaxation music have been proven effective in increasing milk production in postpartum mothers. Woolwich massage consistently shows a significant increase in milk volume and flow through the stimulation of prolactin and oxytocin, which strengthen the milk ejection reflex. Relaxation music helps reduce stress and increase comfort in mothers, thereby supporting an increase in the hormone oxytocin, which plays a role in the lactation process.

Abstract

This study investigates the habit of students using body language (gestures) to replace unmastered English vocabulary during classroom communication. Vocabulary mastery is a key component in English learning, yet many students struggle to express themselves verbally, resulting in a reliance on gestures as compensatory tools. Although previous research has shown the effectiveness of gestures in enhancing comprehension and engagement, limited studies focus on students’ natural gesture use in Indonesian EFL classroom contexts. Therefore, this study aims to analyze how eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Pematangsiantar utilize gestures to substitute for English vocabulary they have not yet mastered. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with ten purposively selected students. The findings revealed that students frequently employed iconic, deictic, and emblematic gestures, primarily to clarify meaning and maintain communication flow when vocabulary gaps occurred. These gestures were found to facilitate comprehension, support memory retention, and sustain classroom interaction, aligning with the embodied cognition theory that emphasizes the integration of body movement in language processing. However, overdependence on gestures may hinder verbal vocabulary growth. The study concludes that gestures serve as effective nonverbal strategies in English learning, yet should be integrated with explicit vocabulary instruction to promote balanced communicative competence.

Abstract

The City of Depok is currently facing a serious waste management crisis, as the Cipayung Landfill has exceeded its capacity and receives approximately 1,200–1,500 tons of waste per day. In this context, community participation in waste segregation at the source plays a crucial role in reducing the pressure on landfill facilities. This study aims to examine the dynamics of community participation in waste management in Depok City and to identify the key factors that encourage and hinder such participation. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method, data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with waste bank managers and Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot processing operators, as well as an analysis of secondary data obtained from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) 2024. The findings reveal that community participation in Depok is strongly driven by economic incentives, particularly through the presence of more than 400 waste banks and innovations in BSF maggot bioconversion. However, the sustainability and consistency of public participation are constrained by systemic challenges, especially the downstream waste transportation system that continues to mix segregated waste during collection and transport. Overall, the study concludes that community participation in waste management in Depok has reached a level of collective awareness, yet it requires stronger policy and logistical synchronization from the city government, particularly through the implementation of segregated waste collection schedules, to ensure long-term sustainability.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology has significantly impacted the role of the internet and social media in society. Their use is no longer limited to connecting those far away or simply seeking information. Social media is now also being used for educational purposes, or e-learning . This study was conducted to determine how the use of social media as a learning medium impacts early childhood understanding. Interviews, questionnaires, observations, and literature review were used throughout the study. The goal was to assess the understanding of early childhood students during e-learning . The respondents in this study were 17 parents of students at Alifa Kids Kemang Sari Kindergarten. Each respondent was asked several questions related to the use of social media for e-learning as a learning medium for children in early childhood education. The results of processing respondent data show that the use of social media as an e-learning learning medium is not appropriate because the number of students who do not understand the material is greater than the number of students who understand the content of the material displayed on learning media via social media.

Abstract

Law enforcement is the process of realizing the values of justice, certainty, and benefit in the life of the nation and state. In the context of the Indonesian legal system, law enforcement is not solely oriented towards the imposition of criminal sanctions, but also involves administrative legal instruments that are preventive and corrective in nature. Criminal provisions are used to punish violations that have a serious level of wrongdoing and social impact, while administrative sanctions are used to enforce compliance without going through lengthy criminal court proceedings. This article analyzes the relationship, differences, and application of criminal and administrative sanctions in the Indonesian legal system, as well as examining how these two instruments play a role in achieving effective law enforcement. The research method used is normative juridical with a regulatory approach and legal doctrine analysis. The results show that the effectiveness of law enforcement in Indonesia is highly dependent on the balance between repressive (enforcement) and preventive (prevention) efforts, as well as coordination between legal institutions that apply the principles of substantive and procedural justice.

Abstract

The relationship between the Catholic Church and state power in medieval Europe represents one of the most complex dynamics in Western political and religious history. During this period, the Church functioned not only as a spiritual institution but also as a powerful social, political, and economic force. Conflicts between the Church and the state frequently arose due to overlapping authorities, particularly concerning legitimacy of power, appointment of church officials, land ownership, and interpretations of law and morality. This study aims to analyze the forms of conflict between the Catholic Church and state authorities in medieval Europe and the factors underlying these tensions. The research employs a literature study method by examining various historical sources, including classical historical texts and relevant contemporary scholarly works. The findings indicate that Church–state conflicts were not merely theological but also political and economic in nature. Struggles between the papacy and European monarchs, such as the Investiture Controversy, reflect competition for influence over society and power structures. This study is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of the historical roots of Church–state relations and their relevance to the development of modern concepts of separation of powers.

Abstract

Online learning requires students to possess strong self-directed learning abilities to ensure that the learning process remains effective. To ensure the accurate measurement of these abilities, an evaluation instrument with sound measurement quality is essential. This study aims to analyze the validity and reliability of the Self-Directed Online Learning instrument among secondary school students using the Rasch Model. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 757 secondary school students as respondents. The research instrument was the Self-Directed Online Learning Scale (SDOLS), consisting of 17 items measured on a five-point Likert scale. Data analysis was conducted using the Rasch Model with the assistance of Winsteps software. The results indicate that 15 items met the validity criteria based on the Outfit Mean Square (MNSQ) values, while 2 items did not meet the required criteria. Reliability analysis shows that the instrument demonstrates adequate reliability, while respondent reliability falls into the good category. These findings suggest that the Self-Directed Online Learning instrument is appropriate for measuring students’ self-directed learning in online learning at the secondary school level, although refinement of several items that do not meet the criteria is recommended.

Abstract

Songs often serve as a medium of communication that conveys social criticism and existential reflection on contemporary society. This study aims to reveal the existential meaning and form of social critique in the lyrics of Hindia’s song “Untuk Apa/Untuk Apa?” using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic approach. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method emphasizing the process of semiosis among the representamen, object, and interpretant within each verse. Data were obtained through textual analysis and observation of the song’s social context. The findings show that the song contains signs representing emotional exhaustion, identity confusion, and critique of the productivity culture that pressures young generations. Through Peirce’s triadic relation, the meaning formed is not merely an individual complaint but an existential awareness of modern life’s absurdity. In conclusion, “Untuk Apa/Untuk Apa?” functions as a cultural text voicing self-reflection and resistance against capitalist values. This study extends semiotic research in music by highlighting the existential dimension as part of contemporary social criticism.
