Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate audio-visual learning media for enhancing poetry writing skills using the Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy for grade X students. The research follows the Research and Development (R&D) method, utilizing the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) developed by Thiagarajan. Data were collected through questionnaires using a Likert scale for quantitative analysis, while qualitative data were obtained from expert evaluations, comments, and suggestions. The study involved four validators—two material experts and two media/design experts—to assess the feasibility of the developed media. The research was limited to the development stage, where material validators assigned an average validity score of 76%, categorized as "very feasible", while media/design validators provided an overall score of 72%, classified as "feasible". These findings confirm that the audio-visual learning media for poetry writing skills is valid, practical, and effective for use in school learning environments, making it a potential tool to enhance student engagement and creativity in poetry writing. Future research should explore the implementation stage and assess its impact on students' learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of the subaltern and the forms of resistance articulated in the novel Anak Siapa? by Thio Tjin Boen through Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak’s theory of subalternity within a postcolonial literary framework. The research addresses how the characters embody subaltern positionality and how resistance is negotiated within colonial and patriarchal power structures. Employing a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method, the study analyzes textual data drawn from narrative passages, dialogues, and character interactions that depict marginalization, subordination, and contestation. The findings reveal that subalternity is represented primarily through indigenous female characters deprived of bodily autonomy and decision-making authority, as well as through Peranakan Chinese figures occupying an ambiguous status within the colonial hierarchy. Resistance emerges in moral defiance, symbolic refusal, and moments of vocal assertion; however, these acts remain circumscribed by dominant colonial discourses. The study argues that the novel reflects the layered complexity of subaltern experience in early twentieth-century Peranakan Chinese literature and problematizes the possibility of fully articulating subaltern agency under colonial domination.

Abstract

This study examines the structural elements of Bumi Manusia by Pramoedya Ananta Toer as a reference for literature instruction in Madrasah Aliyah. The research is grounded in the need to strengthen students’ critical and contextual understanding of Indonesian literary heritage within secondary Islamic education, where canonical works are often underutilized as analytical teaching materials. The study addresses the following question: how can a structural analysis of the novel—focusing on plot, characterization, setting, theme, and point of view—contribute to effective literature learning in Madrasah Aliyah? Employing a qualitative descriptive method with a structuralist approach, the data were derived from close textual analysis of the novel and relevant pedagogical literature. The findings indicate that the novel presents a coherent narrative structure, complex character construction, and a historically grounded setting that enables students to engage with themes of colonialism, identity, and social justice. The structural elements are interconnected and pedagogically adaptable to competency-based learning objectives in secondary education. The study argues that Bumi Manusia offers not only literary richness but also substantial educational value, making it a relevant and effective reference for developing analytical and reflective literary competence among Madrasah Aliyah students.
