Abstract

This study explores the evolution of fashion from the classical Islamic era to the medieval period, highlighting the changes in styles, materials, and cultural influences that shaped clothing across various regions in the Islamic world. Starting with the principles of simplicity and modesty advocated in Islamic teachings, early clothing was more functional and reflected religious values. As the caliphate expanded and interacted with other civilizations, such as Persia, Byzantium, and Europe, clothing became more diverse and rich in adornment, with the use of luxurious materials like silk and brocade. This study also examines how trade, cultural exchanges, and social changes contributed to the transformation of clothing, creating a unique blend of local traditions and foreign influences. Additionally, the research discusses how clothing served not only as a means of covering the body but also as a symbol of social status, cultural identity, and artistic expression. Through historical and textual analysis, this study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the development of fashion in the context of Islamic history and its impact on modern fashion.

Abstract

Arabization, or ta'rib, refers to the process of making something entirely Arabic or as Arabic as possible. This process was integral to the development of Arabic language and culture during the Umayyad Dynasty in the eastern regions. The Arabization movement involved replacing the administrative languages with Arabic; initially, Arabic replaced Greek in the Arab-controlled areas of Damascus, and later, it replaced Persian in Iraq and the eastern provinces. Arabic currency was also introduced during this period. The movement, which reached its culmination during the Umayyad dynasty, had significant impacts on various sectors. Conditions favorable to Arabization were established under Caliph Abdul Malik ibn Marwan, who is considered a key figure in this process. This study employs a historical method with a focus on library research. The analysis relies on historical documents and books regarding Arabization and its effects. The study uses an outline evaluation approach for analyzing the data, guided by a multidimensional theoretical framework. The concept of causality is applied to understand the motivations behind and consequences of the Arabization movement.

Abstract

This study examines the harmony among four primary sources of knowledge—reason, senses, intuition, and revelation—in shaping human understanding of reality. Although each source has its uniqueness and limitations, this research aims to uncover how these four can complement each other to produce holistic and comprehensive knowledge. The approach used is qualitative, involving a literature analysis from various perspectives, including philosophy, religion, and modern science. The findings reveal that reason provides logical and analytical abilities, the senses serve as the primary gateway for absorbing empirical information, intuition paves the way for spontaneous and profound understanding, while revelation offers transcendental knowledge derived from divine authority. When synergized effectively, these four sources can create harmony that enriches the development of knowledge while maintaining a balance between rational, empirical, and spiritual aspects. This study recommends an integrative approach in education and research to foster more inclusive interdisciplinary collaboration rooted in ethical principles.
