Abstract

With the pandemic COVID-19 outbreak throughout the world, the number of social media users multiplied by a massive number. YouTube streaming platforms becomes a place where people spend most of their time online. The trend called Virtual YouTubers becomes popular during the pandemic. One of the prominent factors of VTuber was their persona. VTubers Ayunda Risu becomes the subject of this research to give insight into how VTuber can manifest their persona to attract or retain their audience. By following the guidance of the qualitative method, this article focused on analyzing the live streams done by Ayunda Risu. Combining the method of qualitative study simultaneously with the author's experience in VTuber entertainment, this article creates a conclusion corresponding to how VTubers manifest their persona to attract and retain their audience. The study concludes that persona manifests as a result of the audiences preference. However, VTubers' inner personality also becomes the essential element to manifest their persona and online build personal branding, which as a result can gain or retain an audience.

Abstract

Fact-checking journalism has become a common practice to counteract misinformation. In an era of widespread disinformation, the factuality of information is crucial. This research explores linguistic strategies for fact-checking accurate reporting. With a focus on factuality, linguistic approaches are analyzed to identify effective methods in combating misinformation. Specifically, we studied whether there are differences in perceptions based on Linguistic Strategies for Accurate Reporting, dan how often fact-checkers conduct fact-checking. It integrates linguistic understanding with journalism practice to strengthen the reliability of information presented to the public.

Abstract

In recent years, the utilization of artificial intelligence-powered tools in education has witnessed a significant surge. These tools offer invaluable assistance to teachers in classroom preparation and learners seeking to enhance their English language proficiency. With their considerable potential, AI-powered tools provide an affordable, effective, and efficient approach to teaching and learning. This research focuses on analyzing AI-powered tools that facilitate the reading process. Employing a qualitative research design with content analysis as the primary methodology and documentation as the technique, this study delves into the examination of selected AI-powered tools to aid in the reading process. The findings underscore the benefits and advantages of these tools when aligned with the various stages of the reading process. Specifically, ChatGPT emerges as beneficial for the pre-reading stage, while Quillbot and Paraphraser.io prove advantageous during reading. Post-reading activities can be facilitated by tools such as ChatGPT and Storywiz.io. In conclusion, based on the outcomes, the research recommends the utilization of the aforementioned AI-powered tools to enhance the reading process.

Abstract

YouTube is an online media platform containing a variety of videos. It is also a place to post, share, and download videos.Its users range from children, teenagers, adults to parents, and no exception including students. This study aims to investigate the effect of using YouTube on students’ motivation in learning English. A qualitative method was used in this study, its study literature review. This research used descriptive research design to process the data and to draw the conclusions. Researcher gathered data from collecting literature to describe the situation related to the use of Youtube to motivate students in learning English. The result of this study was found out the implementation of YouTube videos in learning English was showed a positive impact on students to be more motivated.

Abstract

Reading in English provides learners with the opportunity to develop their vocabulary, improve their comprehension skills. In this research, the writer wants to know the significant effect on students’ reading comprehension with using short English movies with English subtitled. This research used a quantitative method with quasi- experimental design. The population in this research were eleventh grade students from SMK Gemilang Modernland. During data collection, the writer gave a pre-test and post-test which included a total of five essay questions. The writer used IBM SPSS version 25 to analyze the data. The results of the research showed that the data were not normally distributed, and the data were homogeneous. Hypotheses testing used non-parametric statistics, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test which indicated that, Ha is accepted, and Ho is rejected. It can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using short English movies with English subtitled in improving students’ reading comprehension at eleventh grade students of SMK Gemilang Modernland in the Academic Year 2023/2024.

Abstract

This article will explain the power of storytelling in teaching English to young learners. Utilizing stories for scholastic purposes is a very useful system for teaching English to young learners. Storytelling is one of the main support systems for engaging young learners in the learning process. Storytelling has a good chance for young learners to discover the experience of real life and the language learning experience together. Through stories, young learners can gain various abilities and skills to develop themselves in English. Most young learners like stories; therefore, implementing English through stories gives strength to young learners.
