Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Alpha Generation's perspective on the use of technology to filter actual information through social media. Generation Alpha refers to individuals born between 2010 and 2025, who grow up and live in an increasingly connected digital age. In an information-abundant environment, it is important to understand how these young people use technology to access and filter current information. This study uses narrative inquiry. This research was conducted with 3 participants, with an average age of 13-15 years. This research is expected to be able to examine the perspective of the alpha generation in exploring social media to filter actual information. This research aims to help academics, practitioners, and other stakeholders better understand and support young people to deal with the challenges of 'bird' information in today's rapidly developing digital era by providing a deeper understanding of the use of technology and social media in filtering information actual information. This study is grounded in the theory of digital literacy levels proposed by Lankshear and Knobel (2011: 167). The study found three 13-15-year-old children of the Alpha generation, who value accessibility and speed in obtaining information through social media. They value personalization and engage in online conversations, demonstrating critical skills in filtering information, verifying information, and contributing to social change.

Abstract

When a pandemic hit the entire planet almost one year ago, every facet of the teaching and learning process changed. It is included in the learning styles of students. Some problems were observed during online learning, particularly for students at the University of Muhammadiyah Jambi. Some students seemed to not have a good preparation in studying. There were some distractions when the learning process occurred online at that time. For their task, they were late in submitting the task. Because of these concerns, it appeared that there was some dispute about how students truly learnt through online learning. The purpose of this study was to report statistics on the different types of learning styles utilized by students in their English online learning. Neil Fleming's The VARK Questionnaire was used to analyze the data. The qualitative descriptive method was applied in this study. This study's population consisted of first semester Management Department students in the academic year 2020. There were three different classes: R.B1, R.A7, and R.B3. The findings revealed that most students in this study used a kinesthetic learning style. Then came auditory learning, which was followed by reading and writing learning styles. The final was visual learning style. Nevertheless, there was not a significant correlation between academic performance and students’ styles of learning based on the test results.

Abstract

Authentic material could be promising in providing real use of language materials, one of them is e-magazines. English e-magazines are the teaching media utilized by the teacher (as the subject of this research) in their ELT class that become the focus of this study. Aiming at describing the real practice done by the teacher in order to look closer on how e-magazine presence in class can help ELT teaching learning process, this article presents a case study of an ELT class of 30 students in an Indonesian art university, involving a teacher and several students in the process of data collection through observation, interview, and document study and analyzed by having critical look on the process of real teaching practice. The result shows there are gained benefits related to students’ learning autonomy, with some potentials and challenges related to teaching practices, hoping that ELT teachers could develop their teaching ideas and might consider using e-magazine in their next class meetings.

Abstract

With the pandemic COVID-19 outbreak throughout the world, the number of social media users multiplied by a massive number. YouTube streaming platforms becomes a place where people spend most of their time online. The trend called Virtual YouTubers becomes popular during the pandemic. One of the prominent factors of VTuber was their persona. VTubers Ayunda Risu becomes the subject of this research to give insight into how VTuber can manifest their persona to attract or retain their audience. By following the guidance of the qualitative method, this article focused on analyzing the live streams done by Ayunda Risu. Combining the method of qualitative study simultaneously with the author's experience in VTuber entertainment, this article creates a conclusion corresponding to how VTubers manifest their persona to attract and retain their audience. The study concludes that persona manifests as a result of the audiences preference. However, VTubers' inner personality also becomes the essential element to manifest their persona and online build personal branding, which as a result can gain or retain an audience.

Abstract

This research describes the implementation, challenges, and solutions of multicultural education. This research is library research. The analysis shows that multicultural education promotes equality in schools to develop students' attitudes toward diversity and living together in harmony. Multicultural education is a reform movement aimed at providing equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their ethnicity, culture, language, religion, race, or class. It is crucial in Indonesia, where the school system is a social system with individuals from different backgrounds united. The success of multicultural education depends on the desire and care of the school community, especially teachers. Teachers must innovate to teach multicultural education, aiming to increase student motivation and tolerance towards diversity. In a multicultural classroom, all students from different cultures and languages have equal educational opportunities. Learning reflects culture, experiences, perspectives on linguistics and culture of a group, as well as respect for differences and student cultural similarities. Having a positive attitude towards differences can bring individuals into the community and bring the community into the wider world community. However, challenges during the implementation of multicultural education may. Indonesia's education policy should promote a democratic, egalitarian society that respects the values of humanity and equality, and values differences.

Abstract

This research paper investigated the problems faced by the students in speaking English outside the classroom. The population of this research is all of the English Department students of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Ar- Raniry. The samples are the students starting academic year 2021. This research was conducted to study the perception of the students’ problems faced in speaking English outside the classroom. A mixed-methods approach adopted to gather comprehensive data and insights. The primary data collection methods included observation and questionnaire. Two main problems are faced by students: linguistic and non-linguistic issues. There are five elements occur in linguistic problems:(1) Vocabulary, (2) grammar, (3) pronunciation, (4) comprehension, and (5) Fluency. While non-linguistic problems are: (1) self-confidence, (2) embarrassment, (3) lack of partners, (4) and pride. In addition, this research also found the percentage of English being used based on students’ perception in English Department of language teaching. It showed 46 % of the environment, 30 % of the staffs and the lecturers, and 24 % of the students.

Abstract

Writing is the ability to articulate and express ideas or emotions that arise in the mind in the form of words, phrases, and paragraphs. Throughout the writing process, some students have expressed that learning to write feels tedious and unimportant to them. When teaching writing, there are numerous strategies that must be employed to promote written communication among students. Collaborative writing is a strategy that can be employed in pairs or groups and has been proven to be effective in addressing students' writing challenges. A short story is a type of concise fiction, considering the events portrayed, the content of the story, the number of characters, and the word count used. This research aims to determine the influence of the collaborative method using short stories on the improvement of students' writing skills in one of the the SMK PGRI in Tangerang Kota. The variables in this research are the collaborative short story method and writing skills. This research falls under the Quasi-Experimental category and employs a quantitative approach. In this study data was collected from a sample of 70 students. The research hypothesis was tested using the Wilcoxon test, and the conclusion drawn is that there is a influence of the collaborative short story method on students' writing skills. Abstract

Instagram is now a worldwide photo and video-sharing social media platform, and English is increasingly used in captions by non-English speaking Instagram users. With this known, this study aimed to determine the students' reason at Universitas Kapuas using English as a caption on Instagram. This study involved 22 students of Universitas Kapuas. The research design used was a qualitative descriptive. Data collection used an interview consisting of five questions. The researchers also used observation to triangulate the data. The results of this study stated that students use English captions on Instagram, which were influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The results showed that intrinsic factor was the highest. More than 50% of the students or participants used the intrinsic factor in writing English caption. The intrinsic factor included was the need for learning English. While for extrinsic motivation, the respondents mentioned that using English as a caption looks cool and aesthetic.

Abstract

As a lingua franca, English is utilized by most people in all parts of the world. In Indonesia, English teaching needs rejuvenation, restorations, and more in an attempt to reach the expected proceeds. When the condition is implemented, the moral probe is proposed to the English teachers to undertake the subject in a better and more effective way. Speaking skill plays the most prominent role in human communication. In teaching this skill, English teachers should pay more concern to make the student relish communicative competence which desires help the student to be able to communicate in spoken language communicatively. Nevertheless, teaching speaking is not a convenient task. EFL teachers find it troublesome to inform students to get involved in speaking skills. Several learners have the right capability in the grammar structure but they are not skilled in speaking communicatively. They are competent to speak with correct grammar but they are not powerful to say something suitable in the social context. Also, some other students are still misled in comprehending an individual message which is stated through spoken language. So, they have a low motivation to speak English. To help students attain communicative competence in speaking skills, English teachers can apply Task-Based Instruction (TBI) in the classroom. Abstract

Fact-checking journalism has become a common practice to counteract misinformation. In an era of widespread disinformation, the factuality of information is crucial. This research explores linguistic strategies for fact-checking accurate reporting. With a focus on factuality, linguistic approaches are analyzed to identify effective methods in combating misinformation. Specifically, we studied whether there are differences in perceptions based on Linguistic Strategies for Accurate Reporting, dan how often fact-checkers conduct fact-checking. It integrates linguistic understanding with journalism practice to strengthen the reliability of information presented to the public.
