Abstract

This article aims to determine the effectiveness of Class Wide Peer Tutoring (CWPT) implementation to improve students' mathematical reasoning abilities. This research is experimental research with a mixed-method approach. The research sample was determined through cluster random sampling. Data were collected through mathematical reasoning tests arranged according to indicators of mathematical reasoning ability. Data were analyzed using inferential statistics with the stages of normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing. The result shows that the implementation of CWPT enhances students' mathematical reasoning on Equations and Inequalities of an Absolute Value. Mathematical reasoning test results show that the 10th grader score of mathematical reasoning is 76.75 (Good). The indicator of mathematical reasoning that is the most difficult for students to master is "drawing logical conclusions" with the acquisition of a mathematical reasoning score of 35.81 (poor), while the easiest mastered by students is "Presenting mathematical statements or premises in writing, drawings or graphics" with mathematical reasoning score of 80.14 (Very Good). The students' mathematical reasoning ability on the indicator "compiling an analogy or explanation of the problem and its solution" is 74.09 (Good). The mathematical reasoning ability of students on the indicator "mathematical manipulation" is 42.10 (fair). Keywords: Mathematical Reasoning, Students’ ability, Class Wide Peer Tutoring

Abstract

Salah satu cara untuk membuat siswa lebih dekat dengan matematika dengan dunia nyata adalah dengan menggunakan pendekatan kontekstual (Contextual Teaching and Learning) yang dikembangkan dengan tujuan agar pembelajaran berjalan dengan produktif. Siswa tidak akan lepas dari karakteristik gaya belajar visual, auditory, dan kinestetik (VAK) mereka masing-masing untuk memahami suatu konsep. Pendekatan kontekstual dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan gaya belajar-VAK dengan memfokuskan siswa sebagai pembelajar yang aktif, siswa dapat lebih mengekspresikan gaya belajar mereka masing-masing dalam menyerap sebuah informasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 27 Bandung. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan konsep matematis yang sginifikan antara siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran pendekatan kontekstual dengan gaya belajar-VAK dengan siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan metode ekspositori. Kata kunci: VAK (visual-auditory-kinestetik), kontekstual, pemahaman konsep. ABSTRACT Contextual learning can be one solution to make student closer and familiar with math and real world. Each students has their own learning style to understand a concept. There are three main learninf style; visual, auditory, and kinestetic (VAK). Contextual lerning can be implemented based on VAK learning style that put the students as active learners, so they can express their learning style to understand some informations. The sample of this research were the seventh graders of SMP Negeri 2 Bandung. Base on research result, Student who learn by Contextual learning based on VAK learning style significantly better in understanding mathematical concept than the students who learn by expository method. Abstract

Teaching materials are learning tools that contain materials, learning methods, and ways to evaluate students which are arranged systematically to achieve learning objectives. The teaching materials used during mathematics learning are textbooks that make it difficult for students to understand the material and educators have not developed teaching materials based on a realistic mathematics education using the Tri N teaching. This research aims to determine the validity and responses of students to the development of mathematics teaching materials based on realistic mathematics education using Tri N teaching on the material of linear equation system class X SMK. This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) which aims to produce and test product quality. This research refers to the 4D development model, namely Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. However, this research only reached the development stage. Data was collected by using documentation techniques, validation sheets, and student response questionnaires. The test subjects were students of class X TKJ 1 SMK Kesuma Margoyoso. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. This research produces a product of mathematics teaching materials with an average percentage of 85.6% which is included in the very valid category. Student responses to teaching materials are in the very good category with an average percentage of 82.22%. This shows that teaching materials are suitable for use in learning at school. Abstract

Kemampuan mahasiswa dalam melakukan pembuktian matematis tidak sama bergantung dari kategori kognitifnya. Salah satu metode pembuktian matematika adalah induksi matematika yang memerlukan pemahaman konsep secara sistematis. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan pembuktian matematis mahasiswa yang memiliki kategori kognitif tinggi dan rendah menggunakan induksi matematika. Subjek penelitian ini adalah empat orang mahasiswa tingkat tiga Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika dengan klasifikasi dua orang mahasiswa memiliki kemampuan kognitif tinggi dan dua mahasiswa berkemampuan rendah. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah lembar tes materi induksi matematika dan pedoman wawancara. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif yang mendeskripsikan kemampuan pembuktian matematis mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan soal terkait induksi matematika disesuaikan dengan kemampuan kognitif tinggi dan rendah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa dengan kategori kognitif tinggi mampu menyelesaikan setiap langkah pembuktian secara benar namun belum sistematis, sedangkan yang berkemampuan kognitif rendah tidak memahami alur pembuktian pada langkah induksi, kekeliruan memahami sifat distributif, dan ketidakteraturan menghubungkan setiap langkah pembuktian. Melalui artikel ini, peneliti berharap dapat menganalisis perlakuan yang tepat pada mahasiswa saat mengajar berbagai materi matematika yang menggunakan prasyarat induksi matematika. Kata kunci: pembuktian matematis, induksi matematika, kemampuan kognitif. ABSTRACT The students’ ability to perform mathematical proof is different depending on their cognitive category. One of mathematical proofing is mathematical induction which requires concepts understanding systematically. The purpose of this research is to know the ability of mathematical proof using mathematical induction of high and low cognitive category students. The subjects of this study are four third graders of Mathematics Education Study Program. Two students have high cognitive ability and the others have low cognitive ability. The mathematical induction material test sheet and interview guideline are used as research instruments. This is a descriptive research which describes the mathematical proof ability of students in solving problems related to mathematical induction adjusted with high and low cognitive ability. The results show that students with high cognitive category are able to complete each step of proof correctly but not systematically. At the same time, the students with low cognitive ability are not understand the proof steps at the induction step, the misunderstood the distributive property, and the irregularity connect the proof steps. The researcher expects to analyze the appropriate treatment to the students while teaching mathematical materials using mathematical induction prerequisites. Abstract

This study aims to develop a Group Theory Module for the User Class of the Online Flipped Classroom Learning Model with Unity of Sciences based on the need for modules in the introductory algebraic structure one course that can increase student activity in online lectures and include the Unity of Sciences breath. This research is development research using the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) to get the Group Theory Module for the User Class of the Flipped Classroom Online Learning Model with Unity of Sciences. The results of this study are the Group Theory Module for the User Class of the Flipped Classroom Online Learning Model with Unity of Sciences which contains the title page, learning objectives that are by the RPS, material arranged in 12 chapters, student activity sheets included in the initial or final activity in each topic/chapter, Unity of Sciences content in several chapters, guidelines for independent student activities (listening to material delivered through learning videos), and practice questions. Based on the validation results, the group theory module for the user class of the online flipped classroom learning model containing Unity of Sciences has a validity rate of 88%, which is included in the valid criteria and can be used with revisions. Based on the evaluation results at the final stage of the study, it was found that the group theory module for the user class of the online flipped classroom learning model containing Unity of Sciences was at a value of 87%, which was included in the efficient criteria and included in the effective criteria with a quality of 67%. Abstract

ABSTRAK Jenis penelitian yang dilaksanakan dalam artikel ini adalah adalah deskriptif yang bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran tentang kemampuan awal bernalar matematika mahasiswa, khususnya Universitas Negeri Medan, pada mata kuliah matematika diskrit. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester IV pada program studi pendidikan matematika tahun akademik 2016/2017 yang berjumlah 45 orang. Pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara memberikan pretest kepada mahasiswa dengan waktu 15 menit dan wawancara. Wawancara dilakukan dengan tujuan mendapatkan informasi mengenai bagaimana mahasiswa menyelesaikan permasalah yang disajikan. Hasil dari pretest dan wawancara dijadikan bahan untuk menjawab masalah utama pada penelitian ini. Dalam hal ini, temuan penelitian mengemukakan bahwa kemampuan awal mahasiswa pada umumnya belum dapat membantu mereka memecahkan masalah-masalah graf bahkan sebagian mahasiswa tidak dapat menyelesaikan pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang disajikan. Dalam meyelesaikan permasalahan yang diberikan, beberapa mahasiswa cenderung melakukan metode trial and error, sedangkan yang lainnya menggunakan penjabaran penjabaran dengan kata-kata ataupun gambar. Kata kunci: analisis kemampuan awal, kemampuan bernalar (reasoning skills), graf, matematika diskrit. ABSTRACT This paper attempts to descibe descriptively towards a study which is conducted to provide an overview about college students’ initial reasoning skills, especially Universitas Negeri Medan, at Discrete Mathematics course. The implementation of this study involves 45 fourth-semester students of mathematics education program as the research subject. The data was collected by giving fifteen-minute pretest and conducting interview with the students. The interview aimed to acquire the information about how the students deal with the problems. The results of pretest and interview were laterly used to answer the main question of this study. In this case, the findings of this study show that the students’ initial understanding is not adequate to solve the problems about graph and some students leave the worksheet with no answer. In order to deal with the problems, students come up with trial and error method and others attempt to solve the problems with word description and pictures. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan motivasi belajar dan prestasi belajar matematika. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XII MIPA-6 SMA Negeri 1 Jepara. Pengumpulan data melalui tes dan non-tes. Teknik tes untuk mengetahui prestasi belajar dengan menggunakan butir soal sedangkan teknik non tes untuk mengetahui perkembangan motivasi belajar dengan menggunakan lembar pengamatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa motivasi belajar siswa meningkat dari rendah menjadi tinggi dan nilai rata-rata prestasi belajar matematika siswa naik 31,86% dari 62,97 menjadi 83,03 dengan tingkat ketuntasan naik hampir tiga kali lipat dari 21,05% menjadi 81,58%, sehingga disimpulkan penerapan pembelajaran berbasis masalah berbantuan GeoGebra dapat meningkatkan motivasi dan prestasi belajar matematika materi komposisi transformasi. Kata Kunci: pembelajaran berbasis masalah; geogebra; motivasi belajar; prestasi belajar ABSTRACT Purpose of this study is to improve students’ achievement and motivation towards mathematics. This is an action research that carried out students grade XII MIPA-6 of SMA Negeri 1 Jepara. Data of students’ achievement is assessed by giving test, while data of students’ motivation is observed by observation sheet. The result shows that students’ motivation improve from low level to high level. Means of students’ mathematics achievement increase as much as 31,86% , from 62,97 to 83,03. Students which passed KKM increase from 21,05% to 81,58%.Thusimplementation of problem based learning with GeoGebra increases students’achievement and motivation in composition of transformation. Abstract

Statistics has been a compulsory subject in many study programs, considering its importance as a provision for university students to conduct research, which is one of the requirements for graduation. However, statistics anxiety, which hurts statistical competence, is a common phenomenon in students. This study, first, aims to describe students' statistics anxiety. It also wants to examine whether gender differences are also a cause of this statistics anxiety. The study took 167 samples of students at a university in Central Java, Indonesia. They were selected by simple random sampling. The statistics anxiety scale has been tested for its validity and reliability and becomes the instrument in this study. This study found that the majority of students' statistics anxiety was on average at a moderate level. It also found no difference in statistics anxiety based on gender, seen either as a whole or in terms of each domain. Further related research is expected to examine statistics anxiety with a qualitative approach or mixed methods to describe its nature and causes in more depth, as well as efforts that can be made to reduce such anxiety. Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematika siswa kelas V SD Sambiroto menggunakan pendekatan Realistic Mathematic Education (RME) berbantuan alat peraga manipulatif. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas dengan subjek penelitian guru dan 32 orang siswa. Penelitian berlangsung selama 2 siklus, setiap siklus terdiri 4 tahapan yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi dan refleksi. Variabel bebas pada penelitian ini adalah pendekatan RME berbantuan alat peraga manipulatif. Sedangkan variabel terikatnya yaitu kemampuan komunikasi matematika siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan wawancara, observasi, tes, dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis data kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan keterampilan mengajar guru dengan pendekatan RME berbantuan alat peraga manipulatif pada siklus I sebesar 2,91 (kriteria “Baik”) meningkat di siklus II 3,51 (kriteria ”Sangat Baik”), adanya peningkatan aktivitas belajar siswa pada siklus I 2,85 (kriteria “Baik”) menjadi 3,18 (kriteria “Sangat Baik”) pada siklus II, terjadi peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematika siswa pada siklus I sebesar 75% dengan kriteria baik menjadi 84,37% dengan kriteria sangat baik pada siklus II. Kata kunci: pendekatan RME, komunikasi matematika, luas trapesium dan layang-layang. ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to improve the student’s mathematics communication ability on fifth grade SD Sambiroto by using RME approach with manipulative media. This research is a classroom action research. The subjects are the teacher and 32 students. The research consists of 2 cycles, that is cycle I and cycle II. Each cycle consists of four steps: plan, action, observation, and reflection. The independent variable in this research is Realistic Mathematic Education approach with manipulative media, while the dependent variable is the mathematics communication ability. Data was collected by interview techniques, observation, tests, and documentation. The data analysis of the research was quantitative and qualitative analysis. The result shows that the teacher teaching skill with RME approach assisted by manipulative media was improved from 2.91 (Good criteria) on cycle I to 3.51 (Very Good criteria) on cycle II, the student learning activity is increasing from 2,85 (Good criteria) on cycle I to 3,18 (Very Good criteria) on cycle II, and there was an improvement of student’s mathematics communication ability from 75% (Good criteria) on cycle I to 84.37% (Very Good criteria) in cycle II. Abstract

Two factors that cause creative thinking does not develop during education are the curriculum and educators, which are generally designed with a broad target, so that educators focus more on completing the material. In this case, it is known that mathematics learning that has occurred so far has not been able to attract students' attention, especially in creative thinking. This study aims to improve students' creative thinking skills with the Treffinger learning model. This study uses a mixed method (a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods). This research was conducted in class VII MTs SA Al Istiqomah on the material of triangular and quadrilateral shapes. These students of MTs Sa Al Istiqomah Mojosari class VII total of 15 students. The research sample amounted to 2 students who were selected using a sampling technique. In addition, one student with high post-test or high scores (SNT) and one low-scoring student (SNR) will be interviewed. The indicators of creative thinking used in this study are indicators (1) Fluent, (2) Flexible, (3) Original, and (4) Detailed. The results showed that students with low scores and high scores overall were included in the category of students with high creative thinking abilities because more than 85% of students met the criteria for high creative thinking abilities. This was evidenced by the fulfillment of all indicators of creative thinking abilities. However, there are still some students whose scores are below the average. This is evidenced by students only being fluent and flexible, which means that the original and detailed indicators have not been met.
