Abstract

Anxiety in pre-operative major surgery patients is a common occurrence and can affect the post-operative healing process. Family support plays an im- portant role in reducing this anxiety, as it provides a sense of security and comfort. This study aims to examine the relationship between family support and anxiety levels in pre-operative major surgery patients at RS Bhakti Asih, Tangerang City. This research uses a quantitative design with a correlational approach and a cross- sectional study design. The sample consists of 78 patients undergoing major sur- gery at RSU Bhakti Asih who met the inclusion criteria, selected using nonproba- bility sampling with a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using two instruments: a family support questionnaire and the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents received high family support, with 31 respondents (39.7%), and the most dominant anxiety level among patients was categorized as normal/not anxious, with 23 respondents (29.5%). The Chi-Square test analysis yielded a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05. It can be concluded that the study demonstrates a significant relationship between family support and anxiety levels in pre-opera- tive patients.

Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) weakens the immune system and can lead to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), making the body vulnerable to infections and certain cancers. Globally, around 35 million people live with HIV, and about 19 million are unaware of their status. In Indonesia, 48,300 new HIV cases and 9,280 AIDS cases were reported in 2017, with 62% occurring in males. Combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the most effective treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and has significantly reduced mortality while improving patients’ quality of life. However, treatment success strongly depends on medication adherence. This study aimed to determine the relationship between ART adherence and the quality of life of PLWHA in the working area of UPT Puskesmas Helvetia, Medan. An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted from July to August 2025 using total sampling of patients receiving ART. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test in SPSS version 27. The results showed that most respondents had good quality of life (39 respondents) and good ART adherence (39 respondents), with a significant relationship between ART adherence and quality of life (p < 0.001). These findings indicate that better adherence to ART is associated with improved quality of life among PLWHA.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder that requires long-term antipsychotic therapy. Medication adherence plays an important role in treatment success but is often affected by drug side effects such as weight gain, which impacts Body Mass Index (BMI). Changes in BMI may influence patient motivation and adherence to treatment. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design conducted at Dr. Pirngadi General Hospital Medan from January to February 2026. A total of 106 schizophrenia patients were selected using quota sampling. Medication adherence was measured using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8), and BMI was calculated based on weight and height measurements. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level. Most respondents had abnormal BMI (72 patients; 67.9%), and high medication adherence was found in 74 patients (69.8%). In the normal BMI group, most patients had high adherence (30 patients; 88.2%), while in the abnormal BMI group, high adherence was found in 44 patients (61.1%). Chi-Square analysis showed a significant relationship between BMI and medication adherence in schizophrenia patients (p=0.017).

Abstract

Pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period are vulnerable phases for mothers, so readiness in recognizing danger signs of labor is crucial for the safety of the mother and fetus. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of health education in improving pregnant women's knowledge regarding danger signs of labor in the third trimester. The study used a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 30 pregnant women in the third trimester who were selected purposively. The health education intervention was provided through group counseling with visual media and guided discussions. Knowledge measurements were conducted before (pretest) and one week after the intervention (posttest) using a valid and reliable structured questionnaire. The results showed a significant increase in maternal knowledge, with the average score increasing from 48.3 to 72.7. The proportion of mothers with good knowledge increased from 6.7 % to 56.7%. In addition, there was a significant positive relationship between the level of posttest knowledge and maternal compliance with childbirth recommendations (p = 0.028). This study confirms that structured, interactive, and family-involved health education effectively improves pregnant women's understanding and behavior in facing the risks of childbirth, thus potentially reducing childbirth complications and supporting the safety of the mother and fetus.

Abstract

Healthy pregnancy preparation is a crucial aspect of maternal and child health, and premarital counseling programs are designed to support prospective couples in achieving this goal. This study aimed to examine the effect of the CATIN premarital counseling program on the attitudes of prospective brides and grooms toward healthy pregnancy preparation at Puskesmas Tilamuta. A quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test control group was employed. The study involved 60 participants, divided equally into an intervention group receiving structured counseling and a control group receiving routine health information. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire measuring attitudes toward nutrition, lifestyle, reproductive health knowledge, and readiness for preconception care. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, and independent t-tests with a significance level of p < 0.05. The findings indicated a significant improvement in attitude scores in the intervention group, with the mean increasing from 65.2 ± 5.8 in the pre-test to 78.6 ± 6.1 in the post-test (p < 0.001). In contrast, the control group showed a minimal, non-significant increase from 64.8 ± 6.2 to 66.0 ± 5.9 (p = 0.102). The independent t-test confirmed a significant difference between groups in post-test scores (p < 0.001), demonstrating the effectiveness of the structured CATIN counseling program in enhancing prospective couples’ attitudes toward healthy pregnancy preparation. In conclusion, structured premarital counseling positively influences attitudes and readiness for preconception health, supporting better maternal and neonatal outcomes. Implementation of such programs in community health centers is recommended to strengthen preventive reproductive health services.

Abstract

Fungi are microorganisms often found in food and can act as spoilage agents or have certain benefits. Rhizopus sp., Aspergillus sp., and Penicillium sp. are types of fungi commonly found in various foods with different characteristics. This study aims to determine the characteristics of the three fungi, explain the isolation method from food samples, identify morphological and microscopic differences, and analyze factors that influence the success of isolation and identification. The method used was fungal isolation in culture media from food samples, followed by macroscopic and microscopic observations. Data were analyzed descriptively in the form of tables and graphs. The results showed that Aspergillus sp. had the largest number of colonies (12 colonies) with an average diameter of 2.0 mm, Penicillium sp. had the largest diameter (4.5 mm) with 10 colonies, while Rhizopus sp. had 5 colonies with a diameter of 3.0 mm and the fastest growth. Macroscopically, there were differences in color, texture, and shape of the colonies, while microscopically, differences were seen in the type of hyphae, reproductive structure, and characteristics of each fungus. These differences are influenced by environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, substrate type, and the isolation technique used. In conclusion, the three fungi have distinct characteristics and can be identified through morphological and microscopic observations. Maintaining sterility and using a variety of media and environmental conditions is recommended to improve the accuracy of research result.

Abstract

Introduction: The Lansia Sehat application was developed as a recording and reporting system for elderly health services. However, its utilization at the service level has not been optimal. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of the Lansia Sehat application in Tanggamus Regency from a health management perspective. Methods: This study used a qualitative design with a case study approach. Informants included elderly program managers, primary healthcare staff, and related application users. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document reviews. Data analysis was conducted using the Input–Process–Output (IPO) framework. Results: The application implementation was not optimal, indicated by double recording practices and limited data use for reporting purposes only. In the input aspect, issues included limited interface design, absence of integrated user guidance, lack of offline features, and weak operational policy support. In the process aspect, data entry was inefficient, the system was not integrated, and synchronization problems frequently occurred. In the output aspect, the application improved report standardization, but the speed, accuracy, and use of data for decision-making remained low. Conclusion: The application is still in a transitional phase and has not produced significant managerial impact. Required improvements include simplification of data entry workflows, provision of integrated user guidance, addition of offline features with automatic synchronization, and integration with other reporting systems to reduce duplicate recording. Strengthening governance, improving system design, clarifying roles, and optimizing data utilization are required to transform the application into a decision-support system for elderly health programs.
