Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy is a common condition caused by a deficiency of red blood cells or hemoglobin, leading to reduced oxygen in the body. The main causes of anemia in pregnant women are deficiencies in iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12, which can pose risks to both maternal and fetal health, such as fatigue, premature delivery, and impaired fetal growth. Research shows that a healthy diet rich in iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12 can help prevent and manage anemia. Furthermore, factors such as poor diet, inadequate nutrient intake, and impaired nutrient absorption also contribute to the occurrence of anemia. Regular screenings and iron supplementation are essential for detecting and managing anemia. Health education for pregnant women about the importance of a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients has been shown to increase understanding and awareness about preventing anemia. The education sessions using PowerPoint media demonstrated that pregnant women who participated in this session showed improved knowledge regarding the causes, impacts, and prevention of anemia, as well as the importance of consuming iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12-rich foods. Through effective educational approaches, it is expected that pregnant women will adopt a healthy diet that supports their health and optimal fetal development. Abstract

Anemia in adolescent girls is a major public health issue in Indonesia and has been identified as one of the contributing factors to stunting. This problem is especially urgent in coastal areas, where despite the abundance of fish as a source of iron and protein, dietary habits often fail to optimize their potential benefits. The aim of this community service program was to enhance knowledge and awareness regarding anemia prevention through nutrition education and fish processing demonstrations targeted at adolescent girls in Tuban’s coastal region. Participants were recruited from five villages and involved in a series of interactive sessions that combined lectures on nutrition and anemia with hands-on demonstrations of simple and locally adapted fish-based recipes. The program was evaluated through pre-test and post-test assessments to measure knowledge improvement. Findings revealed a clear increase in participants’ understanding of anemia, its link to stunting, and the role of fish consumption in maintaining health. The interactive approach encouraged active participation and was effective in fostering positive changes in attitudes and daily dietary practices. In conclusion, integrating nutrition education with practical demonstrations utilizing marine resources is an effective strategy to prevent anemia among adolescent girls in coastal communities. This approach highlights the importance of community-based interventions that are culturally appropriate and resource-based in addressing nutritional challenges.

Abstract

Background: Tempe bungkil is a processed by-product of soybean oil production that has high nutritional and economic potential, but has not been optimally utilized by MSMEs in Legok Sukoraharjo Village, Pakisaji District, Malang Regency. Problems faced by partners include: (1) production that is still traditional and highly dependent on weather conditions, (2) lack of product diversification, (3) simple packaging, and (4) marketing that is still limited to conventional methods. Method: The community service method used is participatory training involving MSMEs and the community. The activity stages include: (1) socialisation of the potential and benefits of tempe bungkil, (2) product innovation training (nuggets, crackers, frozen food), (3) modern packaging training with standing pouches, (4) digital marketing training, and (5) evaluation. Results: The results of the activity show a significant increase in partner capacity. Analysis of sales data 2 months post-training shows an increase in income of 45.8% from an average of IDR 1,200,000/week to IDR 1,750,000/week. The impacts felt are increased income, expanded market reach through online sales (15% of total sales), and the creation of new, more sustainable business opportunities and reduced dependence on the weather.
