Abstract

Improving quality has become increasingly important for educational institutions as an effort to achieve better control through their actions. The principal is a leader who holds the authority to manage all aspects within a school institution. In order for the duties and responsibilities of school leaders to be effectively realized, it is essential that principals understand, internalize, and apply several management concepts developed by thinkers in the business world namely, TQM (Total Quality Management), which is then applied in the field of education. The implementation of education must take into account the characteristics, aspirations, and needs of society. Education must be able to provide contextual responses in accordance with the global context. In other words, various efforts must be made to bring together stakeholders to ensure they have access to the policy formulation and decision-making processes, particularly regarding the equity and expansion of educational services, as well as the quality, relevance, and efficiency of educational management.

Abstract

Islamic education today is facing serious epistemological challenges amidst the dominance of globalization, secular knowledge paradigms, and technological advancement. This study aims to explore the concept of intellectual development within the epistemological framework of Islamic education, particularly through the integration of bayani (textual), irfani (spiritual-intuitive), and burhani (rational-empirical) approaches. This research employed a qualitative method using a library research model with descriptive-analytic analysis. Data were collected from books, academic journals, and scholarly reports, and analyzed using content and thematic analysis. The findings reveal that each epistemological model has unique contributions: bayani strengthens textual authority, irfani develops moral-spiritual depth, and burhani fosters critical and logical reasoning. When integrated, these models offer a holistic approach to intellectual development in Islamic education that balances cognitive, ethical, and spiritual dimensions. The study concludes that to address current educational crises—such as moral degradation and critical thinking decline—Islamic education must embrace an integrative epistemology to form learners who are intellectually sharp, spiritually rooted, and morally guided.

Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia has deep and unique roots, evolving from the assimilation of Islamic values with local culture since the 13th century through institutions such as pesantren and surau, which served as centers of knowledge and moral guidance for society. This study employs a qualitative research method. The findings indicate that the transformation of Islamic educational institutions from informal systems to formal institutions marks a significant development in the history of Islamic education. Madrasahs emerged as structured centers of learning with more established curricula and teaching systems, while simultaneously facing challenges such as conservatism and limited accessibility. On the other hand, the epistemological dynamics of Islamic education demonstrate a synthesis between revelation and reason, forming a holistic foundation of knowledge. This was reflected in the golden age of rapid scientific advancement during the classical period, followed by an emphasis on normative sciences during the medieval period, all while preserving intellectual traditions through sanad systems and rigorous learning methodologies. The intellectual contributions of Islam not only enriched the Islamic world but also had a global impact through the transmission of knowledge to Europe. Despite socio-political challenges, the value of balance between revelation and reason remains a vital legacy for the development of adaptive and relevant Islamic education to this day.

Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia has long been an integral part of the national education system, with institutions such as pesantren and madrasah not only teaching religious knowledge but also nurturing the intellectual and moral potential of students. This form of education plays a significant role in shaping a nation of noble character capable of living harmoniously amidst social diversity. This study employs a qualitative method. The findings indicate that Islamic education in Indonesia plays a crucial role in the nation's civilizational development through its long-standing history, contributing to the formation of fundamental religious, moral, and social values within society. It not only strengthens Islamic identity but also supports the advancement of science and culture unique to Indonesia. In the modern era, Islamic education serves as a key foundation for character development by integrating spiritual, ethical, and moral values into an adaptive and innovative learning process. This transformation is essential for addressing global challenges and shaping a generation that is not only academically competent but also possesses strong character, inclusivity, and a readiness to contribute to sustainable national development.
