Abstract

Informed medical consent for mastectomy and breast reconstruction involves complex treatment decisions requiring adequate understanding, voluntary decision-making, and awareness of patients’ legal rights. This study examined the relationship between legal education and the quality of informed medical consent among patients undergoing mastectomy and breast reconstruction and explored factors shaping their consent experiences. A mixed-methods study involved 145 patients and 12 informants, with quantitative data analyzed using descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Spearman’s correlation, and multiple regression, and qualitative data thematically analyzed. Legal education showed a strong positive relationship with informed consent quality, with r² = 0.524. In the regression model, legal education demonstrated the strongest association, while education level was also significant. Age, type of surgery, and previous surgical experience were not significant. Qualitative findings identified time constraints, complex medical terminology, limited awareness of legal rights, and nurses’ supportive communication as important influences. Strengthening legal education and patient-centered communication may improve the quality of informed medical consent among mastectomy and breast reconstruction patients. These findings suggest that strengthening legal education and patient-centered communication may improve the quality of informed medical consent.

Abstract

Video recording in emergency referrals is expanding through telemedicine but raises ethical, legal, and patient safety concerns. This study aims to systematically analyze the ethical and legal dilemmas of utilizing clinical video in emergency referral services, as well as its impact on patient safety and the referral administration process. This research employs a Systematic Literature Review method guided by the PRISMA 2020 framework. The literature search covered PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar using the keywords “emergency referral,” “video recording,” “telemedicine,” “ethical issues,” and “legal aspects.” A total of 14 articles were analyzed using thematic synthesis. The results indicate that clinical video expedites communication and supports triage in emergency referral systems. However, the study identified ethical dilemmas related to informed consent and patient privacy, legal regulatory gaps, and negative impacts in the form of delayed referrals, patient refusals, and increased administrative burdens. On the other hand, video can also enhance the efficiency of clinical communication if implemented with appropriate standards. These findings imply the need for clear regulations, standardized procedures, and safeguards to balance administrative efficiency with patient safety and rights.

Abstract

The Smoke-Free Areas policy is a legal instrument that protects the public’s right to a healthy environment, including in public facilities. In the City of Bandung, regulations on Smoke-Free Areas have been established through regional legislation; however, violations of these provisions are still frequently found, particularly in urban parks as open public spaces. This condition indicates a gap between normative legal regulations and policy implementation in the field, especially in terms of sanction enforcement. This study generally aims to analyze the implementation of the Smoke-Free Areas policy in urban parks in the City of Bandung. The study employs normative juridical research supported by literature review and field observation. Data are analyzed qualitatively through editing, interpretation, and data systematization. The findings indicate that Smoke-Free Areas implementation in Bandung’s urban parks remains suboptimal despite an established legal framework. Limited supervision, inadequate supporting facilities, unclear technical mechanisms, and inconsistent sanctions constrain enforcement, reducing the policy’s deterrent effect. The study concludes that effective implementation requires stronger institutional supervision, clearer enforcement mechanisms, adequate facilities, and consistent sanctions. The study contributes by highlighting the importance of aligning normative legal provisions with practical enforcement mechanisms to strengthen compliance with Smoke-Free Areas in urban public spaces.

Abstract

Hospital domestic wastewater carries organic and microbiological pollution loads requiring both adequate treatment and reliable monitoring; however, effectiveness is often judged solely from laboratory pass/fail results rather than the monitoring system itself. This study examines the effectiveness of the wastewater quality monitoring system at a general hospital’s wastewater treatment plant in Buleleng Regency, Bali, Indonesia, using five years of outlet monitoring data (2021–2025). A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was applied: a quantitative phase analyzed 16 laboratory test records for trend and compliance, followed by a qualitative phase comprising a document checklist, a gap analysis against national wastewater regulation, a SWOT analysis, and limited staff clarification. Results show 93.75% of test results met the applicable standard, with one pH exceedance in December 2022 never followed by documented corrective action. Monitoring frequency reached the minimum target in only three of four fully recorded years, and no single test covered the complete mandatory parameter set. Gap analysis across nine monitoring-system aspects found none fully compliant with ideal provisions. Treatment performance is generally sound, but the monitoring system remains structurally weak in governance. Priority strategies identified are a formal corrective-action procedure, a standardized operation-and-maintenance logbook, and completion of the mandatory testing parameter package.

Abstract

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) production is severely constrained by Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum, a soil-borne pathogen that disrupts vascular tissues and reduces plant growth and productivity. Although synthetic fungicides are widely used, their environmental impacts have encouraged the development of sustainable alternatives. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of citronella (Cymbopogon citratus) essential oil as a botanical pesticide for suppressing Fusarium wilt and improving tomato plant growth under greenhouse conditions. The experiment employed a Randomized Block Design consisting of five treatments (0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1.00% Lemongrass) with five replications. Disease incidence and plant height were measured, and the data were analyzed using analysis of variance followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test at the 5% significance level. The results showed that Lemongrass significantly reduced disease incidence while enhancing plant growth. The 1.00% treatment produced the lowest disease incidence (10.00%) and the greatest plant height (25.00 cm), whereas the control treatment exhibited 100.00% disease incidence and the lowest plant height (7.00 cm). These findings indicate that citronella essential oil is a promising environmentally friendly botanical pesticide for managing Fusarium wilt while supporting tomato growth.

Abstract

Academic procrastination has become a major challenge in higher education, particularly with the widespread use of smartphones that increases digital distractions and may interfere with students’ academic responsibilities. This study aimed to examine the effects of phubbing and social support on academic procrastination, while investigating the moderating role of self-control. A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was employed involving 252 undergraduate students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a structured online questionnaire and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS. The findings revealed that phubbing significantly increased academic procrastination, whereas self-control significantly reduced academic procrastination. In contrast, social support did not significantly affect academic procrastination. Furthermore, self-control did not moderate the relationships between phubbing and academic procrastination or between social support and academic procrastination. These results indicate that academic procrastination is influenced primarily by students’ behavioral and self-regulatory capacities rather than by external social support. The study concludes that reducing excessive smartphone use and strengthening self-control are more effective strategies for minimizing academic procrastination than relying solely on supportive social environments, thereby providing practical implications for universities in developing student self-regulation programs.

Abstract

Economic growth is a fundamental indicator of national development because it reflects improvements in production capacity, income generation, and economic welfare. This study aims to analyze the relationship between foreign direct investment and economic growth in Indonesia, identify the contribution mechanisms of foreign direct investment in promoting economic growth, and examine the factors that determine the effectiveness of foreign direct investment based on previous empirical findings. This research employs a literature review method with a descriptive qualitative approach by analyzing relevant national and international journal articles related to foreign direct investment and economic growth. The findings indicate that foreign direct investment generally contributes positively to economic growth by increasing capital availability, improving productivity, strengthening technological capabilities, and supporting industrial transformation. However, the effectiveness of foreign direct investment depends on complementary factors, including human capital quality, institutional conditions, macroeconomic stability, and domestic industrial readiness. The study concludes that optimizing the role of foreign direct investment requires not only attracting foreign investment inflows but also strengthening domestic economic capabilities to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth.

Abstract

The rise of social media and digital culture has influenced Generation Z’s aesthetic practices, including wearing makeup during wudu, raising concerns about the validity of ablution when waterproof products block water from reaching the skin. This study aimed to analyze Generation Z female students’ understanding, practices, and interpretations regarding the validity of wudu while using makeup through Bronfenbrenner’s socio-ecological approach. This qualitative phenomenological study involved nine purposively selected female students at SMKN 1 Dlanggu, Mojokerto Regency. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation and analyzed using Moustakas’ phenomenological analysis. The findings indicate that most participants demonstrated a sound understanding of the Islamic legal principles governing the validity of wudu, although this understanding was not consistently reflected in practice. The participants’ wudu practices were influenced not only by their understanding of Islamic jurisprudence but also by a process of religious negotiation between religious commitment and aesthetic demands shaped through interactions across multiple environmental layers within Bronfenbrenner’s socio-ecological theory. These findings emphasize that the primary challenge lies not in the lack of understanding of Islamic jurisprudence but in the application of religious teachings within the social realities of Generation Z Muslim female adolescents.

Abstract

Job satisfaction is an important aspect of organizational effectiveness, as leadership practices and workplace psychological conditions can shape employees’ attitudes toward their work. This study examines the effect of transformational leadership style on job satisfaction, with job stress as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach was employed to analyze the direct and indirect relationships among the variables. The results show that transformational leadership style has a significant effect on job satisfaction (p = 0.010). However, transformational leadership style does not have a significant effect on job stress (p = 0.902), and job stress does not significantly affect job satisfaction (p = 0.654). The mediation analysis further indicates that job stress does not mediate the relationship between transformational leadership style and job satisfaction (p = 0.903). These findings indicate that transformational leadership directly enhances job satisfaction without operating through job stress. The study offers theoretical implications about the limited role of job stress as a mediating mechanism and practical implications for organizations in developing leadership practices to enhance employee job satisfaction.
