Abstract

Literacy is a basic competency that every student must have to compete in the challenging digital world. This study aims to discuss how library management can contribute to increasing student learning motivation at SMP Negeri 1 Mangoli Tengah. This research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach and was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Mangoli Tengah, Sula Islands Regency, in November–December 2024. The study subjects included the principal, vice principal, librarian, teacher, and students. The study results indicate that although the school library has limitations, such as the absence of professional librarians, limited budget, basic facilities, and manual cataloging systems, library management that is applied simply but consistently has significantly contributed to student learning motivation. The appointment of teachers as library managers, implementing a "reading day" policy, and arranging a comfortable reading room have increased student visits and literacy engagement. These findings support the theory that a supportive learning environment can shape students' intrinsic motivation and confirm that core management functions remain the driving force behind learning motivation, even with minimal facilities.

Abstract

The demands of the 21st century require students to possess academic knowledge and essential life skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and digital literacy. However, traditional teaching methods often fail to cultivate these competencies effectively. This study aims to explore how Project-Based Learning (PBL) can enhance 21st-century skills among senior high school students. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis over three months at a senior high school in Indonesia. Thematic analysis revealed that PBL significantly improved students' critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, communication skills, and digital literacy. Students engaged more deeply with the content and demonstrated greater autonomy, creativity, and collaboration in real-world project tasks. Despite some initial challenges, such as unfamiliarity with group-based learning and limited digital competence, students gradually developed confidence and independence. The study concludes that PBL is a powerful pedagogical model for preparing students to meet future academic and professional demands. Its contribution lies in promoting more meaningful, student-centered learning while offering insights into the conditions necessary for effective implementation in varied educational contexts.

Abstract

Note-taking is an essential skill that plays a significant role in academic success. Effective note-taking techniques have been shown to be very helpful while learning a language, such as English. This study sought to determine the relationship between note-taking strategy and student English proficiency at a private senior high school. The questionnaires used in this quantitative investigation were modified versions of those used in the two prior studies by Haghverdi, Biria, and Karimi (2010) and Al-Ashkar (2014). Descriptive and correlation analyses were utilized on the gathered data. The researchers recruited 75 respondents using non-probability sampling techniques in a selected private senior high school’s grade 11 science class to participate in the study. According to the results, students' mean note-taking scores were 3.16, which were evaluated as moderate level, and the mean English achievement score was 72.14, which were regarded as low level. The correlation analysis revealed a significant positive association (p <.000) between note-taking and English achievement. Results are useful to foster effective note-taking strategies, which can contribute to English or academic achievement. A similar study can be done by exploring different variables, respondents, and methodologies.
