Abstract

The purpose of this study was to increasing students’ ability in writing argumentative text in class XI-IPA 4 SMAN 18 Makassar through contextual teaching and learning approach (CTL). This study used the method of qualitative. The research subjects were students of class XI-IPA 4 SMAN 18 Makassar in the odd semester in the academic year 2022/2023 with a sample of 36 students. Data collection is done by giving the task of writing argumentative text. The research data collected through the test showed that the students’ ability in writing argumentative text was increasing through contextual teaching and learning approach. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be seen that the student’s result in pre-test is 51.94 then after getting treatment the students’ post-test increase to 70.56 in pre-test. So, it can be concluded that using the contextual teaching and learning approach can increase students’ ability in writing argumentative text.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to know the influence of using Hello English application to enhance students’ achievement of pronunciation in English. This research applied pre-experimental in one class pre-test and post-test. This research conducted at SMPN 1 Meraksaji. In this research the population was the ninth students of SMPN 1 Meraksaji in 2021/2022 academic year. The researcher used total sampling technique. The total sample was 30 students from class VIII-D. In analyzing the numerical data, the writer used SPSS v. 16.0. Based on the results of data analysis, the writer concluded that the use of Hello English application can increase students’ pronunciation skill, it’s proved by the mean score of the students in pretest and post-tes. The result of the research shows that Hello English application significantly increased students’ pronunciation ability after did treatment. The mean score improved from 42.33 in pre-test to 82.16 in post-test. It indicated that the one hypothesis (H1) was accepted and of course, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It means that Hello English application could increase the students’ pronunciation ability in learning English at SMPN 1 Meraksaji.

Abstract

This research is class action research (Classroom Action Research) which consists of two cycles, each cycle is held in three meetings. This research was conducted in 2022. The research procedures included planning, implementing actions, observing, and reflecting. The subjects in this study were students of Class IV SD Negeri 7 Kutamakmur Kabupaten Aceh Utara.  Based on the results of the analysis of the data obtained in this study, it can be concluded as follows: Learning using a problem solving approach can improve learning outcomes for class IV SD Negeri 7 Kutamakmur Kabupaten Aceh Utara . This is indicated by the increase in the completeness of student learning outcomes at Class IV SD Negeri 7 Kutamakmur Kabupaten Aceh Utara.  Of the 13 students (61.90%) who were in the complete category in cycle I increased to 19 students (90.50%) in cycle II. The application of the problem-solving approach in learning can increase student activity, this can be seen from the observation sheet of student activity in the positive response of students in learning.

Abstract

The learning model or approach applied was the Reciprocal Teaching approach. Reciprocal Teaching is an approach to teaching students about learning strategies. Reverse teaching is a constructivist approach based on the principles of making/asking questions. The problem in this research was how to apply the Reciprocal Teaching approach to seventh grade students at UPTD SMPN 1 Pemali. This study aimed to improve English learning outcomes through the application of the Reciprocal Teaching Approach to seventh grade students of UPTD SMPN 1 Pemali. This research is Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of 4 stages. The research procedure included planning, implementing actions, observing and reflecting. The subjects of this study were seventh grade students at UPTD SMPN 1 Pemali, a total of 37 students. The data collection technique used was observation and test. Observation was carried out to observe directly the object of research to take a close look at the activities being carried out. Observation of the learning activities of elementary school students after the observation method had been applied, so that it could be processed into qualitative data and tests as data collection instruments for the purpose of measuring knowledge, intelligence, abilities, or talents possessed by individuals or groups through a written test given to research subjects, then to be processed as quantitative. The results of this study indicated that in cycle 1 the average obtained was 62.70 while in cycle 2 obtained 80.00 of 37 students, where in cycle 1 it was in the low category while in cycle 2 it was in the high category. Based on the results of the research above, it can be concluded that the results of English learning in class VII students at UPTD SMPN 1 Pemali through the applications of the Reciprocal Teaching approach has increased.

Abstract

This research uses quantitative research methods with experiments. Using a one group pre-test post-test design. The data analysis used was the T-test with results showing that it was 0.841 and the t-table was 0.684. Because t-count ≥ t-Table = 0.841 ≥ 0.684 and it can be concluded that it is rejected and based on the criteria of significant examiner rules which say if t-Count ≥ t.Table then it is rejected and accepted which means it can be influenced by the application of the Contextual learning model in learning to write narratives and if t-Count < t-Table then it is accepted and rejected, meaning there is no influence on the application of the contextual learning model in learning to write narratives at SMP Kartika XXI Makassar .

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the improvement of students’ writing ability by the implementation of Mondly Application. The research applies pre-experimental with one grup class pre-test and post-test. This research was conducted at SD Inpres Tetebatu. In this research the population was the eight students of SD Inpres Tetebatu in 2021/2022 academic year. The researcher used total sampling technique. The total number of samples was 26 students from class II. After conducted the research, the researcher concludes that the used of mondly application increase writing skill student, it is proved by the mean score of the students in pretest and post-test. The result of the research shows that Mondly application significantly increase students’ writing ability after did treatment. mean score improved from 334 in pre-test to 510,75 in post-test. It indicated that the alternative hypothesis (HA) was accepted and, of course, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It means that Mondly Application could increase the students’ Writing ability in learning English at SD Inpres Tetebatu.

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to know whether the implementation of Word Collect: Word Games as Language Teaching Media effective in Learning Vocabulary. The writer was applied pre-experimental with one group pre-test and post-test. This research was conducted at UPT SPF SMP Negeri 36 Bulukumba. In this research, the population was the seven grade students of UPT SPF SMP Negeri 36 Bulukumba in academic year 2021/2022. The total numbers of population were 140 students. The researcher was used total sampling technique. The total number of samples was 12 students from class IX. In analyzing the numerical data, the writer used SPSS for windows. After conducted the research, the writer concludes that that the use of Word Collect: Word Games in teaching English vocabulary enriches the students’ vocabulary; it is proved by the mean score of the students in pre-test and posttest. The mean score of the pre-test before the treatment was 61.30 and after the treatment the students gained score 75.17. The t-test of the students’ vocabulary achievement in posttest was smaller than α. The researcher found that the p-value (probability value) was lower than α (0.00 < 0.05) and the degree of freedom was 11. The t-test value of pre-test and post-test was remarked significantly different. It indicated that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted and, of course, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected

Abstract

English has become important in the 4.0 era since numerous electronic devices, such as medical equipment for doctors or salespeople who interact with foreigners in malls, have English conditions. Because of the various cultures that continue to enter Indonesia, ordinary as well as oustanding school systems must learn more about English by expanding their English vocabulary, especially for students special needs, and sign language is employed as a teaching tool in exceptional schools. The purpose of this research is to learn gestures for vocabulary learning for students special needs (deaf), specifically eleventh-grade students at SLB-B YPPLB Makassar. The research method used was qualitative. The responses from observations, questionnaire sheets, and interview sessions have been reviewed by the researcher. According to the data, the first, SIBI, was used in vocabulary learning for students at the Makassar YPPLB SLB-B school because it was less complicated and better organized. Second, it could be concluded that the teacher's influence was indeed important for students, but student interaction was actually very influential on the mood and enthusiasm of students when learned in class, and the third was that using video was ineffective for them to learn because it was difficult for them to understand.

Abstract

The objective of this research aimed to find out the influence of using Voice of America (VOA) Learning English on students’ reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students at SMAN 18 Makassar. The design of this research was an experimental research. The population of this research were the eleventh grade students of SMAN 18 Makassar. The sample of this research was the students in XI science 1. The research instruments used by the researcher were test and questionnaires. The test was used to measure the students’ reading comprehension before and after treatment and the questionnaire was used to collect information about the students’ interest in learning reading by using VOA Learning English. The form of the test was multiple choices and consist of twenty items. The techniques used in collecting the data were pre-test and post-test. Pre-test was administered before the researcher began the teaching learning process and post-test was administered after treatment. In testing the hypothesis, t-test was employed. The calculation was done by using SPSS v.20 The findings of this research was T-test result revealed that sig. (tailed) was 0.000. The outcome indicated that the sig. (2-tailed) table was less significant than the level of significance. As a result, the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted, while the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It means that implementing Voice of America (VOA) Learning English in the eleventh grade of Science 1 at SMAN 18 Makassar in the academic year 2023/2024 can improve students' reading comprehension ability. Therefore, it can be concluded that teaching English reading comprehension by using VOA Learning English had a significant influence and it was more effective.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine to improve students’ Literacy Reading skill Using E-Book System of twelveth grade students of SMA Bosowa School Makassar. This study used a pre-experimental method. The Subject of this study were students of twelveth grade SMA Bosowa School Makassar semester in the academic year 2023/2024, with a sample of 10 students. Data collection was reading text using E-Book System. The research data collected through the test showed that the student's reading ability after the research was conducted, students were more interested in using the E-Book System in reading English text. Based on the results of the data analysis, it can be seen that the student's results in the pre-test were 64.00. Then after getting treatment, the students' pre-test scores increased to 85.55 in the post-test. It can be concluded that students' reading skills are improved on the students’. So it can be concluded that using the E-Book System  can improve students' learning ability in reading English texts at SMA Bosowa School Makassar Â
