Abstract

English is a compulsory subject at schools and universities in Indonesia, with students commonly learning General English and English for Academic Purposes. Some universities integrate Business English or English for Specific Purposes into their curriculum, given the increasing demand for workplace communication skills. However, teaching Business English requires not only linguistic competence but also familiarity with professional contexts, appropriate instructional strategies, and mastery of specialized terminology. This study aimed to discuss insights and recommendations for teaching Business English to university students by conducting a systematic literature review. This issue warrants further exploration as evidence shows that many Indonesians learning Business English struggle to perform key business communication tasks, such as negotiating, giving presentations, and writing emails and reports, due to limited exposure to real-world language use and insufficient instructional support. The study concludes that Business English teaching can be enhanced through the integration of simulations and role-plays, as well as the use of authentic materials that reflect actual workplace practices. These approaches help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real business communication demands. Key Words : Business English; role-plays; authentic materials; university students

Abstract

Speaking is a fundamental skill in English language learning, yet it remains one of the most difficult to master for EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners. This study explores the key challenges that hinder speaking proficiency in Indonesian EFL classrooms and identifies practical solutions to address these issues. Using qualitative methods, classroom observation, teacher interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis, the study reveals four major barriers: psychological factors such as anxiety and low confidence, instructional limitations including teacher-centered approaches and time constraints, limited exposure to authentic English input, and the absence of structured speaking assessments. The discussion connects these findings with recent pedagogical research from 2020 to 2025, emphasizing the need for affective support, communicative teaching methods, authentic language input, and formative speaking evaluation. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of speaking instruction in the Indonesian context and provides practical insights for educators and policymakers aiming to design effective, communicative EFL speaking programs. This study contributes not only to practical classroom strategies but also enriches the current understanding of affective and instructional barriers in EFL speaking development in Southeast Asia

Teachers and lecturers highlighted challenges such as student motivation, classroom management, and the integration of educational technology. Based on the results, several curriculum recommendations were made: incorporating flexible, tiered modules; expanding interactive, hands-on learning activities; and emphasizing technology integration through frameworks like TPACK. New courses, such as English for Specific Purposes (ESP), and updated assessment methods, including project-based and continuous evaluations, were also proposed. These recommendations aim to align the curriculum with modern teaching trends, national qualification standards, and industry expectations. Ultimately, the revised curriculum is expected to better equip graduates with the skills needed in 21st-century educational and professional environments, ensuring that FKIP UIM remains at the forefront of English language teacher education in Indonesia

Abstract

This study addresses the critical issue of mental health among elementary school students at Dasar School, a factor that significantly impedes their academic and social development within the Tallunglipu Congregation community. Faced with various psychological challenges, these children require specialized interventions. This research aims to develop a psychospiritual counseling model tailored to the unique needs and context of elementary school students to enhance their mental well-being. The primary objective is to document the psychological experiences and changes in children following their participation in a program that integrates mindfulness and spiritual practices. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, data was collected through direct observation of counseling activities, process documentation, and interviews with students, teachers, and other relevant individuals. Thematic analysis was employed to identify socio-emotional changes and assess the role of counseling in improving children's mental health. Findings indicate that psychospiritual counseling effectively promotes emotional regulation and a sense of calm among the students. Children demonstrated increased resilience, improved stress management, and a greater capacity for developing harmonious interpersonal relationships. Both students and teachers reported notable improvements, including enhanced patience and increased motivation for learning. Furthermore, students were better able to grasp the lessons and values embedded within spiritual teachings. While challenges such as variations in student concentration during sessions were observed, these were mitigated through intensive guidance. The results confirm that the psychospiritual counseling model is an effective intervention for improving the mental health of children within the Tallunglipu Congregation. This program serves as a viable, context-specific intervention rooted in religious and spiritual principles, and it can be integrated into the character development curriculum at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study explores the transformative effects of Indonesia’s Teacher Professional Education Program (TPEP) on educators, focusing on its impact on teachers’ personal and professional growth. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were gathered through interviews, focus group discussions, and classroom observations involving program participants (teachers) and faculty members. Key findings reveal significant positive changes: teachers reported adopting more innovative teaching methods (e.g. project-based and technology-enhanced learning), improved classroom management, and increased confidence and job satisfaction. For example, one participant noted that after TPEP 'students are more engaged and disciplined when I use project-based learning and new digital tools.' These practical changes align with prior research showing that active, student-centered professional development enhances instructional practice. However, participants also cited persistent challenges: resource constraints, heavy workloads, and limited ongoing PD support hindered full implementation. Stakeholders emphasized the need for strengthened support mechanisms (such as richer resource libraries and mentoring), echoing other studies that highlight institutional backing as critical for PD success. Overall, TPEP has empowered teachers and raised instructional quality, but sustainable improvements will require addressing systemic barriers and investing in continuous, collaborative professional learning
