Abstract

This study aims to find out how accountability for financial management exists at the Al-Ikhlas mosque and to find out how it conforms to ISAK 35 regarding financial reporting of non-profit organizations. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. According to ISAK 35, the financial statements of non-profit entities include statements of financial position, statements of comprehensive income, statements of cash flows and notes to financial statements. With good cash management, we can provide information to donors and other interested parties. The results of this study indicate that financial management at the Al-Ikhlas Mosque is still not in accordance with ISAK 35 standards, and the recording carried out by mosque administrators is still simple, namely recording income and expenses which are presented every Friday manually. The accountability process, which in this case is the process of disclosing to the congregation, is still not maximally detailed, only conveying the amount of income and expenses without clear details. Even so, the mosque parties have tried to make the best possible disclosure. This is because the management of the mosque does not know the financial recording system based on ISAK 35.

Abstract

The study examined the moderating effect of independent directors on the relationship between Chief Executive Officers characteristics and performance of listed deposit money banks in Nigeria. Ex-post facto research design was used and panel data was collected from the audited annual financial statements of thirteen listed DMBs in Nigeria for a period of 2014-2022. Generalized Least Squares (GLS) method of Panel Regression, Fixed and Random Effects was employed in its estimations with the aid of STATA Software Version 14. Performance is dependent variable proxied by Return on Assets and Tobin’s Q, the independent variable is CEO characteristics proxied by CEO tenure, CEO gender, CEO age, CEO educational level, CEO financial expertise, CEO duality, CEO political connection and CEO ownership, the moderating variable is independent directors while board size and bank size are the control variables. The study found that CET, CEG, CEE, CFE, CPC, IDD and CEO have significant positive effect on banks performance, CEA has significant negative effect on banks performance while CED has non-significant positive effect on performance of listed DMBs in Nigeria. Also, the study found that independent directors did not only have a positive and significant direct effect on bank performance, but it also moderates the relationship between CEO characteristics and DMBs performance. However, the study recommends that Central Bank of Nigeria should make it mandatory for DMBs in Nigeria to have a board majorly composed of independent directors since their presence on board strengthens the relationship between CEO characteristics and banks performance.

The researcher used a descriptive study design with both qualitative and quantitative research methods being used. Questionnaires were used in data collection. The data was analyzed using statistical techniques such as regression analysis and descriptive statistics. Data was presented using bar graphs, pie charts, and tables to aid in effectively analyzing the results using SPSS software at 95% confidence level. Data was analyzed using tables and simple percentages for easy statistical inference; the hypothesis was tested using multivariate regression analysis. Findings from the study revealed that the interaction between loan accessibility, motorcycle ownership, microfinance training, and savings has surfaced as pivotal elements intricately interwoven into the fabric of industry expansion and empowerment specifically multiple regression results indicated that 91.9 percent of changes in growth are predicted by microfinance practices variables under study giving and the remaining percentage goes by other factors that are not in this study.
