Abstract

Religious moderation is a way to ensure the creation of harmony among different religious communities in this world. Without prioritizing or discriminating against any particular religion. The purpose of interfaith dialogue and cooperation is to maintain and create religious moderation for dialogue and mutual visits among religious leaders. This is a necessity in the field (the urgency of religion) to build and foster brotherhood, and to appreciate the existing differences. The basic principle of religious moderation is fairness and balance. The foundation for religious moderation from the biblical perspective that the author offers is based on Jeremiah 29:1-9; Romans 13:1-7. The church, in this case, the servants of God and Christians (believers), obeys the existing government. Pray and strive for the welfare of the city where God has placed us. For the welfare of the city is our collective welfare. The current government is an instrument that God uses for the good of society, the nation, and the country. The aim of this research is to foster harmony among religious communities and to fulfill their rights and obligations. The method used in this research is qualitative, utilizing supporting references through a literature approach.

Abstract

Progressive Christianity has emerged as one of the significant streams of thought in modern theology. This movement seeks to reinterpret Christian teachings by incorporating contemporary social and cultural values. However, the evolving understanding of Progressive Christianity often sparks debates over deviations from established orthodoxy and traditional Christian practices. This article aims to critically analyze Progressive Christianity, focusing on the theological deviations present in these new interpretations. The study explores the impact of progressive thought on the core principles of Christian faith and its consistency with traditional teachings. This research employs a qualitative approach using literature analysis methods. Primary and secondary sources relevant to Progressive Christianity and traditional Christian theology are critically examined to identify significant doctrinal changes and shifts. The findings reveal that Progressive Christianity tends to adopt secular values and flexible moral interpretations, often conflicting with traditional teachings. Certain concepts within Progressive Christianity, such as the reinterpretation of the Bible and fundamental doctrines, are seen as potentially diluting the core of Christian faith. Progressive Christianity presents a significant challenge to Christian orthodoxy by attempting to merge modern thought and contemporary interpretations into theology. This analysis indicates that while there is an intent to make the Christian faith more relevant to the modern world, such thinking can lead to deviations from the true foundations of Christian faith.

Abstract

This study analyzes various church governance models, namely Episcopal, Presbyterian, Congregational, and Synodal, using a SWOT analysis method to examine each system's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Each governance model possesses structural characteristics that impact decision-making, authority distribution, and the relationship between congregants and church leaders. The results show that each system offers a unique approach to maintaining doctrinal unity and enhancing congregational participation. However, no governance model is entirely ideal; each faces challenges in balancing centralized authority with local autonomy. Therefore, this study also proposes fundamental principles, such as collaborative leadership, distributed accountability, holistic theological formation, sustainable resource management, and responsiveness to social challenges, which can be applied to optimize church governance functions in an ever-evolving social and cultural context.

Abstract

The Intertestamental Period, lasting approximately 400 years between the Old and New Testaments, is often referred to as the "400 Silent Years" due to the absence of new divine revelations. This period, coinciding with the Second Temple era (530 BC–70 AD), raises critical theological questions, including the understanding of atonement and salvation among the Jewish people and the continuity of God's redemptive work leading to Jesus Christ. Using a library research method, this study explores the theological significance of this era as a bridge between the two testaments. Despite the Babylonian exile and the destruction of Solomon’s Temple, Jewish worship persisted through synagogues, and the Torah remained foundational. The promise of a Savior and the hope of deliverance endured, providing a crucial connection between Old Testament theology and its fulfillment in the New Testament message of salvation through Christ.

Abstract

In contemporary times, Christian living has lost its essence. This is evident in how Christian life today has strayed far from God’s plan as outlined in the Bible. Many Christians engage in religious practices purely as acts of ritualistic obedience. Studying and understanding Scripture is often reduced to the pursuit of knowledge alone. Acts of goodness are performed with manipulative intentions, aiming to reap manifold returns from their actions. Christians have increasingly abandoned the essential values that should define their faith. In this paper, the author employs the methods of literature study and textual analysis. Based on findings from various sources, the author concludes that a holistic Christian life must be built upon a deep understanding of God’s Word. The Word of God is not given to satisfy human curiosity about God or merely to recount what He has done in the past or will do in the future. Studying, hearing, and receiving God’s Word must culminate in putting that Word into practice.

Abstract

There are many ways to maintain a group of people in a formal or informal organization for a specific purpose. This is also done in a group of believers called a church. In the church there is a term shepherding. Shepherding is a very important thing in the spiritual growth of the congregation, where the role is a pastor who must give his life truly according to his calling in devotion to God. This, as explained in 1 Peter 5:2-3, must be done voluntarily, without coercion, because the service must be sincere and pure, so that it can have an impact through example.

Abstract

The theology of salvation is a central topic in Christian thought that addresses the origin of sin and how humanity can attain salvation. One of the interesting issues to explore is the cause of humanity's fall into sin and the nature of sin itself, as taught by two prominent theological figures, John Wesley and John Calvin. This article aims to analyze the views of these two figures regarding the causes of humanity's fall into sin and the nature of sin following the fall. The objective of this study is to examine the similarities and differences in the understanding of John Wesley and John Calvin concerning the theology of salvation, particularly regarding the causes and nature of sin. This research employs a comparative analysis method, wherein the author compares the major works of both theological figures and examines their views on the subject matter. The findings of the study reveal that both John Wesley and John Calvin agree that the cause of humanity's fall is the misuse of free will. However, they differ in their interpretation of the nature of sin that arises from the fall. Wesley emphasizes the impact of sin, which leads to pride and selfish desires, while Calvin views it in a broader context as humanity's inability to save itself. In conclusion, although there is agreement on the basic views, both offer distinct theological implications regarding sin after the fall.

Abstract

The interpretation of John 12:44-50 regarding "the word that judges" raises a theological paradox in understanding Jesus' soteriological mission. Previous exegetical studies have not explored the tension between salvific and judgmental aspects in Johannine theology. This research analyzes the theological meaning of "the word that judges" through historical-grammatical exegesis to reveal the soteriological dimension within the context of Jesus' mission. The methodology employs historical-grammatical exegesis with lexicographical analysis of the Greek text NA28, contextual hermeneutical approach, and comparison of parallel pericopes within the Johannine corpus. Lexicographical analysis demonstrates that κρίνω carries nuances of "separation" (separative) rather than "condemnation" (punitive). "The word that judges" functions as a natural consequence of rejection toward φῶς (light), not as the primary purpose of the incarnational mission. The literary context reveals John 12:44-50 as the climax of the light-darkness theme with soteriological emphasis. "The word that judges" refers to a revelatory function that exposes humanity's spiritual condition, not God's active judgment. These findings contribute to understanding Johannine soteriology and provide a hermeneutical framework for contemporary pastoral application.

Abstract

Christians live within an unavoidable existential tension between the demands of worldly law and the law of God's Kingdom. This article argues that this tension is not a problem to be eliminated, but rather the space in which authentic Christian discipleship occurs. Adopting a theological framework that synthesizes three main pillars, this study offers a path for navigating this dilemma. First, George Eldon Ladd's "already and not yet" eschatology is employed to understand God's Kingdom as divine reign that has dynamically arrived in Christ, yet has not reached its fullness. Second, the radical ethics of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7) are analyzed as the constitution or fundamental law of that Kingdom, emphasizing inner righteousness and love that transcend worldly legalism. Third, the countercultural ecclesiology of Stanley Hauerwas and William Willimon presents the Church as the most significant political response not through direct transformation of the state, but by embodying itself as an alternative "colony" living under the Kingdom's law. The main thesis of this article is that the most faithful Christian response to the conflict between these two laws is neither compromise ("cheap grace") nor isolationism, but rather the embodiment of the Church as a visible community that, through its distinctive way of life, becomes a powerful prophetic witness to the world.
