Abstract

The curriculum is a crucial component of education. The ability to design a curriculum is an essential skill that early childhood education teachers must possess. The curriculum designed must align with the local environment and socio-cultural conditions. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is highly relevant to the current environmental and socio-economic context. However, the ability of early childhood education (ECE) teachers to design an ESD-based curriculum still needs to be developed. In response to this need, a mentorship program was conducted for ECE teachers in Tapin Regency using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. The primary objective was to empower ECE teachers in designing an operational curriculum based on ESD in accordance with the independent curriculum concept. This activity concluded with the certification of 70 ECE teachers who participated in the mentorship program. They were equipped with the knowledge and skills to design an operational curriculum aligned with the independent and ESD-based curriculum. Each group produced teaching modules during the mentorship activities. The participants committed to implementing the teaching modules they had developed and to continuously refining them for future application. The mentorship program successfully empowered ECE teachers in Tapin Regency in designing an ESD-based operational curriculum. Further training and mentorship are still needed to enhance the skills of ECE teachers in designing more varied and engaging learning activities tailored to the characteristics of early childhood.

Abstract

Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) is an integral part of higher education curriculum in Indonesia, aimed at implementing the principles of the 1945 Constitution and related education laws. KKN involves students living and working in rural areas to assist in community development, aligning with the goals of higher education. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, KKN activities have been adapted for online implementation, with limited participation from specific university programs. Despite challenges, KKN remains a valuable experience for students, contributing to their personal and academic growth. Three distinct KKN activities were carried out: English Weekly Meeting, a webinar on sports during the pandemic, and a COVID-19 health equipment donation program. Each activity faced its own set of challenges, including student participation and logistical issues. In conclusion, KKN is a vital component of higher education in Indonesia, fostering community engagement and practical learning. To improve future KKN experiences, clearer communication between universities and students, stronger cooperation with partner schools, and optimized program execution are recommended.

Abstract

This paper examines the integration of community service through an International Internship Program (KKN Internasional) at Universitas Muhammadiyah, aimed at introducing and teaching the values of Pancasila to Indonesian migrant children at Sanggar Belajar Sri Muda and Sanggar Belajar Kuala Langat in Malaysia. The study assesses the program's goals, methodologies, challenges, and the impact of the intervention on both the students and the community. Through participatory teaching methods and cultural exchange, the project highlights the importance of character education and intercultural communication in international service learning. Despite challenges such as resource limitations and cultural differences, the program successfully contributed to the community and enriched the participants' educational and personal growth. The findings suggest that such international community service programs play a vital role in fostering cross-cultural understanding and promoting national identity abroad.
