Abstract

Purpose - Nigeria is the seventh most populous country in the world, and estimated population growth suggests that it will become the fourth most populous country by 2050. Population distribution shows a dominant youth bulge and geometric growth in the last three decades. However, blessed with a large population, Nigeria suffers from hunger and food insecurity, with an estimated 23 million (10.55%) facing food shortages in 2023. Therefore, the question arises whether there is a link between population explosion and food security in Nigeria. Methodology - This study answers the puzzle of the relationship between population growth and food security in Nigeria. The study uses documented sources and empirical data and applies content analysis to discuss the significant findings. Findings - The study concludes that the population explosion is not a curse or negative phenomenon causing food insecurity in Nigeria. However, relatively ineffective agricultural policies, conflicts in agricultural areas, displacement through insurgency, banditry and conflicts between farmers and herders, climatic factors, and underutilized youth and land are more responsible for the food security crisis than population growth. Implication - Therefore, the study recommends, among other things, that agricultural policies must be changed to a modern farming system and that youth must be involved in profitable agricultural production to increase productivity and ensure food security in the future.

Abstract

Purpose:In this paper, we will discuss how to interpret Green Economy concepts and policies within the framework of Islamic environmentalism, one of which is by using the thoughts of Seyyed Hossein Nasr. Methodology:The approach in research that the author uses is a qualitative approach, a scientific and systematic method to conduct and study an object without manipulation and hypothesis testing. At the same time, the form of research that the author will carry out is a form of library research. Findings:Amid this complicated problem, Seyyed Hossein Nasr offers a solution: As a Modern Man, he must place the universe (cosmos, both macro and micro) as a theophany. It means that modern society needs to re-establish its understanding of the existence of self, nature, and God and how their relationship can be harmonious. Implication:Seyyed Hossein Nasr invites us to reflect that human essence is integral to nature through this the-centrism framework. At the same time, the universe is a reflection of Divine power.

Abstract

Purpose: The article examines the extent to which people are willing to accept psychological help based on their attitudes and social status. The study's primary purpose is to determine the role of social status and ideas about psychological help in a person's readiness to receive it.Methodology:The empirical basis of the study was a telephone survey. The sample population (547 people) was representative by gender and age for St. Petersburg. The methodological model of the study is based on the theory of M. Kovalevsky about the pluralistic nature of social experience and motivation. The obtained empirical data were analyzed using a weighted least squares regression model. The dependent variable is whether residents have experience in receiving psychological help.Findings:At the same time, no significant connection was found between the experience of seeking psychological help and the level of income, as well as the age of the respondents, which requires further research on the given topic. The findings demonstrate that being unemployed has a more pronounced positive role in the decision to seek help, despite earlier studies showing the opposite.Implication:The results of the work also contribute to the academic debate about the nature of the emergence of communication groups.

Abstract

Purpose: The paradoxical hesitancy to COVID-19 vaccination amidst the spread of the pandemic, especially the deadly Delta Variant, has remained a source of worry to the global community. Despite assurances of the safety and efficacy of the vaccines and the jabs being publicly administered on top of the Nigerian political hierarchy, COVID-19 vaccination has remained controversial in Nigeria. It appears that citizens' apprehensions about the side effects of the vaccines are yet to be overcome.Methodology:This study investigated the grounds for Nigerian citizens' hesitancy to COVID-19 vaccination. The study asked: What factors underlie Nigerian citizens' hesitancy to COVID-19 vaccination? The quantitative study combined Social Cognitive and Diffusion of Innovations theories as theoretical cornerstones. A survey research design was adopted to study a population of 84 004 084, from which a sample size of 384 respondents was drawn.Findings:The study's findings showed that the reported side effects of COVID-19 vaccines and citizens' distrust of the Nigerian government and health system led to COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy in Nigeria. NAFDAC's warning of fake COVID-19 vaccines being circulated in Nigeria was also found to be a factor that underlies hesitancy to vaccination.Implication:The study recommended, among other things, that national and international health authorities should address apprehensions generated by the reported side effects of COVID-19 vaccines. It was also recommended that Nigerian political leaders should rise to bridge citizens' distrust in the government.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines audience perception of broadcast media coverage of the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on women in rural communities in Edo State. The researcher embarked on this study with the intent of achieving three objectives, and based on the objectives of the study, three research questions were formulated to serve as a guide for this study.Methodology: The study is anchored on the attitude change theory, and data was collected through the secondary data collection method. Findings show that Women in rural areas have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic, as they often face unique challenges such as limited access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.Findings:These challenges have been exacerbated by COVID-19 and the measures implemented to contain its spread, such as lockdowns and travel restrictions. This study recommends that broadcast media coverage of the effects of COVID-19 on women in rural communities should focus on human stories that resonate with the audience.Implication:It can be achieved by featuring real-life women from rural communities affected by the pandemic. The media can showcase how COVID-19 has impacted these women, their challenges, and how they cope. By highlighting individual stories, the media can make the issue more relatable to the audience, which will help to increase engagement and understanding.

Abstract

Purpose: This research aims to determine the results of implementing PKH in 2023 through evaluating government policies. This research interviewed 12 informants with the criteria of sub-district secretaries, PKH assistants, and PKH recipients.  Methodology: The method used is a qualitative method with a purposive sampling technique. Primary data was collected through interviews and face-to-face observations, while secondary data came from online sources, Social Service documents, and BPS. The analysis uses the Miles & Huberman model with data reduction, coding, and triangulation to ensure the reliability and validity of the information. Findings: The findings show that PKH in Lasiana Village has been running well and achieved its goals. The indicators include (1) effectiveness seen from participants maintaining their commitments and obligations; (2) the community receives the responsiveness of the program; (3) efficiency seen from the efficient disbursement process that is already running; (4) sufficiency has not been running well because the assistance received by the community sometimes runs out prematurely. (5) accuracy is appropriate because determining participants goes through many stages.   Implication: This research discusses increasing access to quality health education services and improving economic conditions. The limitation of this research was that it was only carried out in one sub-district.
