Indonesian Journal of Elt and Applied Linguistic
The issues of English language teaching keeps being a major focus discussed by scholars in education area. International Journal of ELT and Applied Linguistics (IJEAL) is established by Magister of English language Education study program, Universitas Muslim Nusantara Al Washliyah. IJEAL is a peer-reviewed journal that focuses on English language teaching, and applied linguistics. IJEAL invites all the researchers and authors to submit the research articles, conceptual papers, brief reports, book reviews both in EFL and ESL context from all over the world. The publication will be carried out twice a year through the reviewing processes and it matters the plagiarism, readability, relevance, and quality. IJEAL is open-access; authors are charged fee to enable us to make online and printed versions.

<![CDATA[The objective of this research was to find out the effect of using anagram game of students’ english vocabulary mastery at the eighth-grades of SMP Negeri 2 Deli Tua Academic Year 2021/2022. The type of research was quantitative research, and it was conducted by using experimental design with two classes, in experimental class consisted of 30 students and control class consisted of 30 students. In technique of collecting data, the researcher conducted pre-test, treatment and post-test by vocabulary test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The result of the data showed that tobserve (11,2) value was higher than the ttable in which tobserve>ttable (11,2>1,68). The finding showed that the hypothesis was accepted. It can be concluded that there was significant difference score in vocabulary skill for the students who were taught by anagram media and who were not taught by anagram media. Based on the explanation above, the researcher concluded that Anagram Media is effective for teaching students’ understanding in learning vocabulary skill of the eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Deli Tua Academic Year 2021/2022]]>

<![CDATA[The objective of the research was to find out whether there is significant effect of using media audio visual on students’ competency in listening skill. This research was conducted in MAS AL-MANAR Medan students of tenth grade. This research used quantitative research with experimental design with two classes. Control class consisted of 20 students and experimental class consisted 21 students. This research used media audio visual as learning method. The technique of collecting data of this research were pre-test, treatment, and post-test. With each test comes 10 questions of multiple choice. The results obtained in this research proved that there was a different score on students’ in learning listening by using media audio visual and used media audio. Students’ achieved good grades but in the control class it was lower than the experimental class. It could be show as follows that the t-test value was 14.735 with df= n-2 = 39, tobserved >ttable, tobserved was higher than ttable with 2.0227. It can be concluded that Media Audio Visual can be affected on students’ listening skill.]]>

<![CDATA[This research deals with Slang words in “The Warriors” movie. The purpose of this study was to determine the type and meaning of the slang used in “The Warriors” movie. The data source is taken from the script of The Warriors movie. The Warriors movie classified as American action movie released in February 1979 and directed by Walter Hill and written by David Shaber. The research design used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. This research is described one by one slang words are found from the film The Warriors by using dictionaries and theories related to slang. From the analysis, there are two types of slang, namely society slang and public house slang. There are 9 word of society slang and 4 word of public house slang. Then the slang word in the form of words and phrases are classified and analyzed. These findings suggest that there are several slang words and phrases in The Warriors that have been classified into a type of slang. Some theories used in analyzing the data were taken from Partridge (1950).This study is expected to contribute to the reader to find out about slang clearly. This can help readers speak English fluently. And it can too is expected to enrich new English vocabulary used in everyday conversation.]]>

<![CDATA[Listening music through music streaming has become part of tertiary students’ activities. Music streaming is one of the media that can improve students' English pronunciation. The purpose of this research was to investigate three students’ perceptions from different Universities in Indonesia on the use Spotify application in improving English pronunciation. A qualitative research method with thematic analysis was applied in this research and the subjects of this research were three students; one English student and two non-English students, based on the parameter of the feature of Spotify, namely; the students’ interest and the students’ motivation (Andriani et all, 2018; Rahmania & Mandasari, 2021). Three themes were found on the interview, namely; Accessible and Flexible Feature, Interesting Media for Learning and Practicing English Pronunciation. The results of this research revealed that the use of Spotify feature on the English pronunciation of all participants increased the students’ pronunciation, particularly in terms of word and meaning. Two non-English students did not pay attention to the elements of English pronunciation; vowel, stress, rhythm, pitch and intonation. However, only English students pay more attention and more comprehensive elements of English pronunciation. It proves that educational background had an effect on improving students’ pronunciation]]>

Social media are effective learning media to assist the learning and teaching process. The use of media in learning English in Junior High School is able to make students do more Learning activities,and other activies such as observing,doing,demonstrating and so on. It was found teachers had positive perceptions of technologies.thematic analysis is the process of identifying and analyzing pattern or themes in qualitative. Based on the research result,teacher perceptions tend to be quite positive about the implementation of the teaching and learning process using media social. <![CDATA[This study focuses on students' problems in speaking English at SMP Plus Kasih Ibu Patumbak, Indonesia. Speaking skill is very important for social life to make people can communicate with global citizen easily. The students of SMP Plus Kasih Ibu Patumbak have been facing many problems in learning English, especially in speaking. The purpose of this research is to find out the students' problems in speaking English. This research design used is a descriptive qualitative research instrument for observation, interviews, and documentation. The study subjects were students of grade VII A totally 24 Students. The results of the data analysis, the researcher found several problems of students in speaking such as: lack of vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, fluency and feeling nervous and being shy. It implies that Indonesian junior high schools need a very strong encouragement to more often practice English at school.]]>

<![CDATA[In English learners, especially high school students, generally find it difficult in translation and vocabulary. This study aims to find out what difficulties students face in learning English. To achieve the research objectives, a qualitative research method was used with a case study design. The instrument of this research is observation where we observe students' participation in learning English. Then we also use other instruments such as interviews. The object of this research is students of class VII-4 SMP Negeri 1 Delitua. The number of students in this study were 15 students. Researchers found that many students find learning English difficult. From the results of interviews the highest difficulty faced by many students was in translating sentences, the second was lack of vocabulary, and the third was motivation. The researcher also found other factors that cause students' difficulties in learning English, namely there are students who like English and there are also those who do not like English.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to determine the difficulties faced by students in understanding English texts, the factors causing the students to have difficulty in understanding English texts and then formulate the most dominant factors influencing the students in understanding English texts. This study used descriptive qualitative methods and the participants of the research was grade 10 students of MAS Al Washliyah 22 Tembung consisting of 4 students. The data were collected through interview, and they were analyzed by performing data reduction, presenting data and drawing conclusions. The results of the study found that students have several difficulties in understanding English texts because they are lack of interes,, lack of concentration and focus, and lack of mastery of strategies and methods of understanding English texts. Finally, it was concluded that the dominant cause of students' difficulty in understanding English texts was the lack of vocabulary mastery. In addition, it was found that some students had difficulty understanding English texts due to not having the right reading strategies, lack of vocabulary mastery, lack of grammar understanding, and they are not having regular reading habit.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to determine the improvement achieved by students in the ability to write descriptive text using the fishbone technique. This research was conducted by applying quantitative research method and an experimental research design consisting of pre-test, treatment and post-test to improve students' descriptive writing skills using the fishbone technique in class X MAN 2 Padang Lawas. The instruments used are writing descriptive text materials based on a given topic, written test, fishbone improved by the students and lesson plan (RPP). To assess students' performance in writing descriptive text, several criteria are used. The cumulative score ranges from (0-100). To determine student achievement in writing there are several criteria that are considered to have five scales of assessment components namely content, organization, vocabulary, use of language, and mechanism. After analyzing the data, it is concluded that there is significant effectiveness of using the Fishbone Technique on the student's writing skill. The finding shows that the score of t (effect) is 0.06. Therefore the effect of using the Fishbone Technique has a significant effect on students' achievement in writing skills.]]>
