Abstract

This study discusses the implementation of cognitive diagnostic assessment in poetry writing instruction for eighth-grade students at the junior high school level. The cognitive diagnostic assessment is conducted prior to the learning activities to measure students' cognitive readiness regarding the material to be taught. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, aiming to explain the reality based on existing data and to describe how cognitive diagnostic assessment is applied in school-based instruction. This type of assessment is formative in nature and is intended to assist educators in designing instructional strategies that align with the conditions and abilities of the students. The assessment instruments used include multiple-choice and essay questions, which are designed to measure students’ prior knowledge as well as their thinking and expressive abilities in composing poetry. The assessment results show that the majority of students, 14 out of 22 participants, fall into the "Needs Guidance" category. Five students are categorized as "Proficient," and only three students achieved the "Competent" category. These results indicate the need for a more adaptive teaching approach and specific interventions, such as tutoring and enrichment programs, in order to improve students’ understanding more evenly.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and demonstration methods in learning activities in second-grade elementary schools. The PjBL method is implemented as an effort to increase active participation, creativity, and collaborative skills in students through the implementation of simple projects tailored to the developmental characteristics of elementary school-aged students. Meanwhile, the demonstration method is used to clarify learning concepts by directly displaying steps, processes, or concrete examples, making the subject matter easier for students to understand. The research approach used was descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including observations of learning activities, interviews with teachers and students, and supporting documentation. The results indicate that the implementation of the PjBL and demonstration methods can increase students' enthusiasm for learning, deepen their understanding of the subject matter, and encourage active student involvement in the learning process. Furthermore, the classroom atmosphere becomes more interactive and enjoyable. Thus, the PjBL and demonstration methods are considered effective and relevant in supporting meaningful and contextual learning in elementary schools, especially in the lower grades.

Abstract

. Learning comparative figures of speech in elementary school often faces challenges because the material is abstract, while fifth-grade students are still at the concrete operational stage and require contextual learning support. This study aimed to develop TAPAMA (Tanah Papua and Comparative Figures of Speech), a learning media based on the local wisdom of Papua, and to examine its feasibility and practicality in Indonesian language learning for fifth-grade elementary students. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, limited to the implementation stage. Media feasibility was evaluated through expert validation involving media experts, material experts, and language experts, while practicality was assessed through teacher and student response questionnaires. The results showed that TAPAMA learning media was categorized as highly feasible based on expert assessments. Furthermore, the practicality test indicated that TAPAMA was easy to use, attractive, and supportive of classroom learning activities. The media helped students understand comparative figures of speech more concretely through culturally relevant examples derived from the local wisdom of Papua. The findings imply that TAPAMA can serve as an innovative and contextual alternative learning media to support the teaching of comparative figures of speech while fostering students’ appreciation of local culture in elementary schools.

Abstract

The matrilineal kinship system in Minangkabau places women in a highly privileged position as owners of heirlooms and lineage. However, the sociological reality captured in literary works often reveals a flip side, namely the rigidity of customs that restricts individual freedom. This study aims to analyze Hamka's linguistic style in depicting the reality of rigid matrilinealism experienced by female characters in three selected novels: Merantau ke Deli, Di Bawah Lindungan Ka'bah, and Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis techniques to dissect the intrinsic and extrinsic elements of the works. The results show that Hamka uses a melancholic style of language, natural metaphors, and sharp traditional proverbs to portray the inner suffering of Minang women. In these novels, it is found that although women are honored by customary status, they often become victims of kinship decisions regarding matchmaking and social status. Hamka criticizes the phenomenon of "gold is not equal to a pan" as a form of discrimination born from a rigid understanding of customs.

Abstract

Literary works are said to be products of human creativity that reflect life, cultural values, and the perspectives of society. Through literary works, writers attempt to convey messages, concepts, and ideas that originate from social and imaginative experiences. Literary works can take the form of prose, poetry, or drama. One form of literary work that is interesting to study sociologically is dramatic literature in the context of monologues. One monologue that is interesting to study is a monologue by a student of SMAN 1 Bangsal entitled “Anita's Little Boat.” This study aims to examine the monologue entitled “Anita's Little Boat” performed by a student at SMAN 1 Bangsal through a sociological approach to literature. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method using Karl Marx's theory to analyze the relationship between the content of the monologue and the social context. The information collection method used observation and note-taking. The results of the analysis show that through a sociological approach to literature and Karl Marx's class theory, this monologue presents social criticism that raises issues of alienation, inequality of ownership, and exploitation, while also presenting an initial awareness of the possibility of social change or revolution. The monologue also illustrates how class ideology can perpetuate injustice and restrict social mobility, as well as strengthen the dominance of the ruling class.

Abstract

Self-confidence is one of the most fundamental psychological, decisive factors that dominates the performance of athletes, especially in the tension of competition, such as a penalty kick in football [5]. In spite of the fundamental technical and physical training, a lot of young footballers face performance variations which are traced to psychological factor, especially self-confidence. The objective of the current study was to develop and validate a scientific measure of self-confidence amongst youth football players in relation to penalty-kick scenarios. Methods A descriptive correlational research design was used. Research Population: A representative sample of youth football players in Baghdad Governorate was attained using the stratified cluster sampling. A self-confidence scale was prepared by the researcher based on different psychological studies in the literature, and also was developed in consultation with an expert in the area of research. The original version of the scale contained a number of items across various dimensions such as confidence about sports skills, managing emotions, competition, and outcomes. The validity was determined with expert review and exploratory factor analysis and reliability was verified using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and the test–retest method. Results showed good levels of construct validity and acceptable internal consistency for the final version of the scale, which may be utilized in both research and applied contexts. The results of a descriptive statistical analysis indicated that the sample's self-confidence level was generally neutral to high. Likewise, there were no statistically significant differences in self-confidence levels between age or years of experience. In summary, the research has resulted in a valid and reliable scale of self-confidence in youth football players that can be confidently used by coaches and researchers to facilitate psychological conditioning to potentially improve performance in critical competitive contexts.
