Abstract

Muṭāla'ah is one of the basic materials in learning Arabic that aims to improve reading and comprehension of texts. However, in practice, it is still found that students have difficulties in understanding reading texts so that learning tends to be less interesting and less optimal. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the use of illustrated Muṭāla'ah media based on the Dreamina application in improving the Maharah Qira'ah of 4th grade students of KMI Pondok Pesantren Muhammadiyah Darul Arqam Patean Kendal. The research method used is quantitative with an experimental approach using a Quasi Experiment design in the form of Non Equivalent Control Group Design. The research population is all students of class 4 KMI totaling 122 people with saturated sample techniques, namely class 4C as an experimental class of 25 students and class 4D as a control class of 24 students. Data collection techniques include tests, observations, and documentation, while data analysis uses normality tests, homogeneity tests, and Independent Samples T-Test hypothesis tests with the help of SPSS. The results showed that the t-test value was -2.718 with a significance of 0.009 < 0.05 so that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control classes. Thus, the use of illustrated Muṭāla'ah media based on the Dreamina application is effective in improving Muṭāla'ah learning outcomes, as well as providing implications that the development of illustrated technology-based media can increase the effectiveness of Arabic language learning and optimize the learning outcomes of students.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the form and meaning of symbolism and metaphor in the short story Hujan Bulan Juni by Sapardi Djoko Damono. This study is motivated by the richness of figurative language in Sapardi's work which reflects feelings, experiences, and life values ​​through a distinctive style of speech. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with content analysis techniques, including identification, classification, and interpretation of data based on stylistic and semiotic theories. The data source for this study is the text of the short story Hujan Bulan Juni published in Sapardi's collection of works. The results of the study show that symbolism in this short story is mostly manifested through the use of natural objects such as rain, the moon, and seasons as symbols of patience, waiting, and suppressed longing. Meanwhile, metaphors are used to strengthen the inner atmosphere of the characters, describe emotional relationships, and imply philosophical messages about sincere and sacrificial love. The conclusion of this study is that the symbolism and metaphor in the short story Hujan Bulan Juni not only beautify the language, but also function as a means of conveying moral messages and profound aesthetic values. These findings can be a reference for learning literary appreciation, especially in the material on analyzing language styles in short stories at elementary, high school and university levels.

Abstract

Pragmatics is an aspect of linguistics that examines the relationship between external context and the purpose of an utterance. Context plays a crucial role in understanding a speaker's intent when communicating with their interlocutor. This study aims to collect, analyze, and discuss various expressions found in educational playlist videos on the YouTube channel "Kok Bisa." In academia, this study can bridge thinking, understanding, and perspectives on analyzing directive speech acts. The results of this study can provide additional insight into understanding directive speech acts. The approach used in this study is descriptive research. This study chose a pragmatic approach because it aligns with the topic of the study, namely related to speech acts and pragmatics. This study also uses listening and speaking techniques to collect and gather data. This study will discuss directive speech acts, so the pragmatic approach is the best choice for studying directive speech acts. A detailed analysis of the videos in this playlist shows that the application of directive speech acts plays a vital role in digital educational communication as a method for conveying messages and interacting between the sender and the audience. The findings of this study are expected to be a reference for future researchers who will conduct similar research, help educators in designing interactive and interesting learning communications, and foster critical awareness of media users regarding the function of language in digital communication.

Abstract

Speech acts are one component of pragmatic discussions between speakers and speech partners. Speech acts as a bridge that connects what is said with the speaker's true intention, allowing speech partners to understand the meaning behind the utterance. Understanding context-bound meaning in pragmatics cannot be separated from the concept of speech acts. This research is important because understanding representative speech acts in a sentence can help students improve their ability to explain and convey knowledge clearly and accurately. The results of this study can provide valuable information for Indonesian language teachers in evaluating students' abilities, such as understanding and accurately conveying language materials in accordance with the language's rules and conventions. In addition, it can improve the quality of Indonesian language teaching by providing appropriate and contextual language, thereby facilitating broader development of Indonesian language teaching materials. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive, which analyzes and describes language units containing representative speech acts in uploads on the Instagram social media @taulebih.id. Data collection in this study was conducted using the listening method, incorporating advanced techniques such as recording and distribution. The analysis identified 168 representative speech acts, comprising 42 statements, 77 pieces of information, 19 suggestions, three complaints, three demands, and 24 reports. In conclusion, each type of representative speech plays a crucial role in conveying information.

Abstract

Speech acts are communication events in which a person uses language to convey a specific message or purpose. Representative speech acts are a type of speech act that serves to state or describe the truth of something, such as facts, explanations, and descriptions. Representative speech acts themselves are steps or processes that aim to foster trust between conversation partners. Representative speech acts do not only occur in face-to-face conversations, but are also found in various contexts, such as on YouTube social media. This study aims to analyze representative speech acts in the YouTube channel Sisi Terang regarding animal facts. The method used in this study is descriptive with a qualitative approach, using listening and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed using a literature study that required scientific journals, and the results were presented in tabular form. This study required scientific journals and a laptop as tools or aids. The research data consisted of 104 utterances taken from a collection of videos on the Sisi Terang YouTube channel. The results of the study show that there are 10 types of representative speech acts, namely stating 57 utterances, mentioning 6 utterances, showing 14 utterances, reporting 14 utterances, demanding 1 utterance, acknowledging 2 utterances, giving examples of 2 utterances, explaining 6 utterances, speculating 1 utterance, and predicting 1 utterance. This study is expected to benefit readers in understanding the meaning of representative speech acts and can be used as a reference for creating informative and accurate educational content.

Abstract

The use of digital media such as YouTube now serves not only as a means of entertainment but also as an interesting educational interaction space to be studied from a pragmatic perspective. This study aims to describe the forms and functions of representative speech acts in the 2025 UTBK General Reasoning Questions Parts 1 and 2 videos on the Privat Al Faiz YouTube channel. This study uses a pragmatic approach with a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through free listening and note-taking techniques, then analyzed using matching and distribution methods to identify the context, illocutionary meaning, and function of each representative speech act, which were then presented in both formal and informal formats. The analysis identified 218 representative speech acts across eight types: explaining, stating, informing, mentioning, suggesting, acknowledging, giving examples, and speculating. The most dominant types were explaining and stating because they served to clarify the material and guide the audience to understand the logical flow of reasoning. These findings show that representative speech acts in digital learning do not merely convey information but also play a role in building reflective instructional communication between teachers and students. Theoretically, this study enriches pragmatic studies in the realm of digital discourse, while practically, it can be a reference for educators in developing effective and adaptive communication strategies for the development of educational technology.
