Abstract

The increase in tropical fruit waste in Indonesia poses a challenge to sustainable resource management. One potential waste product is salak seeds (Salacca zalacca), which are rich in antioxidant compounds. This study aims to utilise salak seed extract as an active ingredient in environmentally friendly antioxidant gels based on sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (Na-CMC). The extract was obtained through maceration in 70% ethanol and formulated into three variants: a control gel without extract, and gels with 5 mL and 8 mL of extract. The formulation tests included pH, homogeneity, spreadability, organoleptic properties, and apple browning test. The results showed a pH of 5.5-5.8 (in accordance with skin pH), homogeneous texture, and light brown colour with a distinctive salak seed aroma that was liked by the panelists. Spreadability increased from 2.5 cm (control) to 2.8 cm (5 mL) and 3.0 cm (8 mL). The gel with 8 mL extract was also most effective in inhibiting enzymatic browning in apples, indicating high antioxidant activity. With good physical stability and antioxidant efficacy, salak seed extract gel has the potential to be developed as a natural cosmetic product and green biotherapeutic innovation based on local waste.

Abstract

Understanding predictive relationships between oceanic conditions and extreme rainfall is crucial for improving weather forecasting capabilities in tropical maritime regions. This study investigates quantitative relationships between precipitation, chlorophyll-a concentrations, and extreme rainfall patterns in West Java using 10 years of satellite observations (2014-2024). We analyzed IMERG precipitation data and MODIS chlorophyll-a products using cross-correlation analysis, continuous wavelet transform, cross-wavelet coherence, and spatial extreme indices calculations. Results reveal statistically significant coupling between precipitation and chlorophyll-a (r = -0.173, p < 0.001) with precipitation leading chlorophyll decrease by 19 days, reflecting marine ecosystem responses to terrestrial runoff. Cross-wavelet coherence analysis demonstrates 78% annual coherence and 68% semi-annual coherence between these variables, with 72.5% of total variance explained by significant periodic interactions. Wavelet analysis identifies dominant annual and semi-annual cycles in both precipitation and chlorophyll-a with 95% statistical significance. Spatial analysis using k-means clustering reveals four distinct precipitation regimes: northern coastal zones with prolonged dry periods (>45 days), central highlands with intense convective activity (>3000 mm annually), southern mountains with extreme precipitation (>3200 mm), and transitional zones with mixed characteristics. Spatial autocorrelation analysis confirms significant clustering (Moran's I = 0.65-0.89) of precipitation extremes across the region. The identified 19-day lead-lag relationship provides a scientific foundation for marine ecosystem monitoring and represents a significant advancement in understanding ocean-atmosphere-ecosystem coupling processes in tropical Indonesia. These findings have important implications for developing improved seasonal forecasting capabilities and ecosystem-based climate adaptation strategies. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of price on students’ purchase intention using a simple linear regression method. This research adopts a quantitative approach with data collected through questionnaires distributed to 94 student respondents. The independent variable is price, while the dependent variable is purchase intention. The results show that price has a positive and significant effect on students’ purchase intention, with a regression coefficient value of 0.58. This indicates that an increase in perceived price value will be followed by an increase in purchase intention. In addition, the coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.36 indicates that price explains 36% of the variation in purchase intention, while the remaining 64% is influenced by other factors outside this study. The significance test also shows that the effect of price on purchase intention is statistically significant. Therefore, it can be concluded that price is an important factor influencing students’ purchase intention, although other factors also play a role in the purchasing decision process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of career development and competency on employee performance with organizational commitment as a mediating variable among employees of the Maluku Province Education Quality Assurance Center. The research method used is a quantitative approach with data collection techniques through distributing questionnaires to all employees. Data analysis was conducted using the path analysis method to test the direct and indirect relationships between variables. The results of the study indicate that career development, competency, and organizational commitment have a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Career development does not affect organizational commitment. Organizational commitment is not able to mediate the effect of career development on performance. In addition, organizational commitment is proven to be able to mediate the relationship between competency and performance. This indicates that the better the career development and competency possessed by employees, the more their commitment to the organization will increase, which ultimately has an impact on improved performance. The implication of this study is the importance of organizations in improving employee career and competency development programs to strengthen organizational commitment and improve performance optimally.

Abstract

The regulation of street vendors is one of the local government’s efforts to maintain public order and spatial management. However, in practice, enforcement activities often face various obstacles, including limited resources, low legal awareness among street vendors, and economic factors that encourage vendors to continue operating in prohibited areas. These conditions indicate the need for an appropriate strategy to ensure that enforcement activities can be carried out effectively and sustainably. This study aims to analyze the strategy of the Civil Service Police Unit in regulating street vendors in Tangerang Regency, Banten Province, covering strategy formulation, strategy implementation, strategy evaluation, strategy effectiveness, and improvement efforts through SWOT analysis. This study employed a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. Research informants consisted of personnel from the Civil Service Police Unit of Tangerang Regency, street vendors, and community members. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the strategy for regulating street vendors has been implemented through stages of formulation, implementation, and evaluation. During implementation, the approaches applied included preemptive measures through socialization, preventive measures through supervision and patrols, and repressive measures through enforcement actions in accordance with procedures. However, the effectiveness of the strategy has not been fully optimal, as some street vendors returned to the same locations after enforcement activities. The main inhibiting factors include limited personnel, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, low legal awareness among vendors, limited relocation areas, and resistance from vendors. Based on the SWOT analysis, improvement strategies should focus on strengthening inter-agency coordination, increasing resource capacity, enhancing supervision, and implementing more persuasive and sustainable approaches. Therefore, the strategy implemented by the Civil Service Police Unit of Tangerang Regency still requires improvement so that enforcement activities are not merely oriented toward law enforcement but also accommodate social and economic aspects of society.

Abstract

Referring to the Audit Report (LHP) of the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK RI) for the 2022 Fiscal Year, it is stated that almost all political parties at the national, provincial, and regency/city levels in Indonesia exhibit the same issue, namely the inadequate implementation of financial assistance policies. This means that the management, accountability, and utilization of political party financial assistance have not been carried out in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations. This study employed a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants in this study were the Director of Domestic Politics of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Head of the Sub-Directorate for the Facilitation of Political Party Institutions, the Secretary General of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the General Treasurer of the Central Executive Board (DPP) of PKS, the Financial Staff of the DPP PKS, and the BPK Audit Team. The results of this study indicate that: The implementation of the policy regarding the use of political party financial assistance, in terms of communication, resources (human resources and budget), bureaucratic structure, and disposition within the Central Executive Board of the Prosperous Justice Party, has not been effective and has not adequately supported the implementation of the use of political party financial assistance. Supporting factors include: (a) the availability of a legal framework regulating procedures for reporting accountability in the use of political party financial assistance; (b) the availability of sanctions; (c) the existence of a political party financial assistance audit team; (d) the availability of advanced technology; and (e) support from community elements incorporated in Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors include: (a) the absence of clear percentage allocations for the use of political party financial assistance; (b) the absence of a special government institution specifically tasked with supervising, guiding, and socializing political parties; (c) the low quality and quantity of human resources; (d) the lengthy chain in the distribution of financial assistance; and (e) the financial assistance provided by the government to political parties is considered insufficient and inadequate.

Abstract

Tourism sector development has become one of the efforts made by local governments to enhance economic growth and increase Regional Original Revenue (PAD). Buru Regency possesses considerable natural tourism potential; however, the contribution of the tourism sector to regional revenue remains relatively low. One of the tourism development efforts has been carried out through the involvement of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDesa) in managing tourism destinations based on local potential. This study aims to analyze the development of beach tourism destinations by BUMDesa in Buru Regency, focusing on the management of Baikolet Beach Tourism by BUMDesa Jikumerasa. This research applies the tourism destination development theory proposed by Sunaryo (2013), which includes the dimensions of tourist attractions and appeal, accessibility, amenities, supporting infrastructure, other supporting tourism facilities, as well as tourism institutions and human resources. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection techniques were conducted through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the development of the Baikolet Beach tourism destination by BUMDesa Jikumerasa has generally been implemented quite well. However, the development of the tourism destination still requires improvement in several dimensions. The dimensions that need primary attention are tourism institutions and human resources, tourist attractions and appeal, and other supporting tourism facilities. Tourism management has not been fully supported by optimal institutional coordination, clear task distribution, managerial capacity of the management team, and structured tourism promotion. In addition, the development of tourism attractions remains limited, and supporting facilities such as culinary services, souvenir products, and security supervision are still not optimal.
