Abstract

Measurement of metal length expansion is crucial in the modern manufacturing industry as it impacts product design, production, and performance. Current conventional method (Discrete Methods/DM) relies on an initial reference length (L0), which limits the flexibility of in-situ and continuous measurements. This study compares the accuracy and flexibility of DM with the Continuous Method (CM), an approach that potentially eliminates the need for L0 after the initial measurement. Using numerical simulations on five metals, this study analyzes calculations for estimating metal length expansion under various heating scenarios. The results show that both methods provide similar differences in metal length thermal expansion values (difference <0.0001 m), confirming their comparative accuracy. However, CM proves significantly more flexible as it allows the calculation of metal length thermal expansion estimates at arbitrary temperatures without the need to refer to L0, unlike DM, which requires L0 for consistency. This flexibility makes CM more practical for both incremental and real-time measurements, supporting the integration of automation into precision manufacturing processes. Implications for the manufacturing industry include increased efficiency of in-situ measurements, reduced reliance on initial data, and the potential for better integration with continuous quality control systems and Digital Twins.

Abstract

Small and medium-scale manufacturing industries generally face difficulties in minimizing their operational costs. The company's Make-to-Order strategy causes fluctuations in the number of jobs received, so it minimizes fixed costs such as labor wages. This phenomenon occurs in rectifier panel manufacturing companies and various other companies. Companies minimize the number of permanent employees and recruit daily contract employees. Unfortunately, daily contract employees are recruited when orders are received (t=0) so that employees are still paid even though work is not yet available. This study attempts to determine the timing of recruiting daily contract employees that is adjusted to the scheduled work. The method used is a combination of project management with the theory of constraints. The study focuses on three things, namely: (1) Determining the number of workers based on the workload in each position. (2) Conducting project scheduling using the PDM (Precedence Diagram Method) project scheduling method. (3) Applying the Theory of Constraint (TOC) method at problematic workstations so that product flow is balanced. The results of the study show efficient performance, namely: the number of workers decreased from 24 people to 17 people, and the duration of the project decreased from 171 working days to 94 working days

Abstract

This study focuses on the design and development of a smart ergonomic laptop table with a modern and minimalist aesthetic to enhance user comfort and prevent musculoskeletal disorders during prolonged laptop use. Using the Stanford Design Thinking methodology, the research was conducted through six stages: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test, and assessment. Data were collected from 26 respondents through surveys and interviews to identify key user needs, including adjustable height and tilt, integrated cooling pad, power socket, and portability. The prototype, constructed from Dutch teak wood and a hollow iron frame, was analyzed through stress, displacement, and strain simulations to ensure structural reliability and durability. The results demonstrated that the final design effectively supports ergonomic posture, reduces discomfort in the neck, back, shoulders, and wrists, and prevents repetitive strain injuries. Additionally, the product combines functional efficiency with an appealing minimalist appearance suitable for modern workspaces. The proposed design not only improves user well-being and productivity but also contributes to sustainable and space-efficient furniture innovation.

Abstract

The long patient waiting time in general outpatient services has become a major problem at Clinic XYZ, particularly during the screening stage and doctor consultations at peak hours. This condition negatively affects patient satisfaction and service effectiveness. This study aims to identify the causes of prolonged waiting times, propose alternative improvements, and evaluate the effectiveness of solutions through simulation using ProModel software. The simulation model was developed to represent real conditions and test several improvement scenarios. The results show that nearly 50% of patients’ time in the system is spent waiting. Four improvement proposals were suggested, namely adding more doctors, redistributing nurses’ tasks, increasing screening capacity, and implementing a single-queue system. The best proposal, which applies consistently to both morning and afternoon sessions, is the addition of doctors. Based on the analysis, this solution proved to be the most effective, reducing total waiting time by 39.75% in the morning scenario and 33.74% in the afternoon scenario. This recommendation provides a strategic basis for improving service efficiency and patient satisfaction at Clinic XYZ.

Abstract

With the development and growth of science and technology, various navigation applications are available to everyone, including motorcyclists. The main objective of this study is to provide several aspects that can influence young motorcyclists to choose their navigation application. Samples were taken from 100 motorcyclists aged 18-25 years in the BSD area. The main method used is factor analysis, using SPSS 2021 software as an analysis tool. By implementing KMO and Bartlett's test, the results have passed the validity and reliability tests. Based on the analysis of the size of the sample adequacy (MSA) and Bartlett's test, the anti-image matrix, the component matrix, and the rotated component matrix, there are three factors that can influence motorcyclists aged 18-25 years in the BSD area to choose their navigation application: the quality of navigation services, the features and benefits of the interface, and also the image of the application itself. These factors can be used for future research to analyze their influence on the selection or comparison of several navigation applications with a more specific scope. Furthermore, navigation application developers can consider these three factors to develop their businesses and remain competitive in the market.

Abstract

To improve the quality of its services, PT. KRL Commuter Line has implemented various innovations to enhance the commuter line experience. One such innovation is the introduction of ticket vending machines, known as Commuter Line Vending Machines (C-VIM), for ticket purchase transactions. Implementing a new system often encounters various challenges that hinder its smooth operation, including the C-VIM implementation. Therefore, this study aims to determine the usability level of C-VIM. The analysis is based on usability dimensions, which include efficiency, error, learnability, memorability, and satisfaction. The methods are using performance measurement techniques, retrospective think-aloud (RTA), the System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire, and the Questionnaire for User Interaction Satisfaction (QUIS). A minimum sample of 40 subjects was allocated to each category. Ascertaining the population size is not feasible, considering the volatile daily passenger count. The usability score based on the SUS questionnaire was 66,43. Testing the efficiency dimension revealed that C-VIM does not yet have a high level of efficiency. However, in terms of error, learnability, and memorability, the system performed well. Regarding satisfaction, the QUIS score obtained was 60.99, indicating that customer satisfaction is fairly satisfactory. The proposed remediation process involves rearranging the physical layout of the screen, the placement of tickets, cash receptacles, and several other attributes. Furthermore, improvements are required for the on-screen display of several pages which were assessed to have low usability based on respondent feedback following the usability measurement.
