Abstract

This research explores the precarious employment conditions of baristas in the hospitality industry sector in Indonesia. It was found that job uncertainty and wages below the minimum standard are the primary issues faced by baristas. The study utilized in-depth interviews with a number of baristas who had completed their work contracts for more than 1 month, as well as interviews with coffee shop owners. The main findings include (1) uncertainty caused by the inability to meet the needs of baristas and (2) uncertainty caused by business conditions in the hospitality sector. The research results suggest recommendations, such as (1) owners' aspirations to implement inclusive leadership, (2) improvements to barista competency training, and (3) enhancements to regulatory policies related to the coffee shop business to reduce instability in market conditions. Thus, this research provides valuable insights for business owners and policymakers to improve working conditions in the hospitality sector, particularly at the barista level.

Abstract

The laparoscopic surgical procedure has been proven to be highly useful for surgeries in narrow body cavities, such as pelvic surgeries. Performing laparoscopy on morbidly obese patients in the supine, lithotomy, and Trendelenburg positions during surgery presents a challenge in obstetric anesthesia. The patient is a 31-year-old female with a left dermoid ovarian cyst. During the perioperative period, the patient presented with morbid obesity (BMI of 45 kg/m2), and an intermediate risk of obstructive sleep apnea. Perioperatively, arterial blood gas analysis (ABGA) was performed to determine whether there were any ventilation issues typically associated with obesity (i.e.,Pickwickian syndrome). The ABGA results were within normal limits, with a pCO2 of 38 mmHg. General anesthesia was administered, and the patient was induced with 150 mcg of fentanyl, 150 mg of propofol, and 40 mg of atracurium. The surgery was completed without significant hemodynamic changes. After the surgery, the patient was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for observation in case of any anesthesia-related complications. In conclusion, pre-anesthesia preparation and clear and effective intraoperative communication are crucial in managing a patient with morbid obesity undergoing laparoscopic cystectomy, hysteroscopy, and tubal patency procedures.

Abstract

An organization, in achieving its goals, is propelled by the individuals within it who act as members of the organization. Members of the organization engage in coordination and collaboration, all of which require communication. An organization may consist of a group of people with cultural differences. Cultural differences need to be managed effectively to avoid barriers among members. One form of management is reflected in the members' ability to engage in cross-cultural communication competence. Additionally, organizational culture is a crucial element in shaping a shared meaning system. The integration of all organization members is necessary in achieving organizational goals, especially in situations where there are cultural background differences among members. Cultural differences influence the interpretation and perception processes of organizational members regarding messages and information that arise in the communication process. A cohesive organization is an aspiration that needs to be realized through efforts to strengthen organizational culture and enhance cross-cultural communication competence among all organization members. Cohesiveness represents how organization members are not separated by barriers arising from cultural background differences. This research employs a qualitative method with data collection through document studies. The aim of this study is to uncover the reasons why cross-cultural communication competence and organizational culture are crucial in building cohesiveness within an organization. The researcher conducting this study received funding from the Domestic Master's Scholarship Program of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

Abstract

Placing an Old Age Security (JHT) savings scheme within the National Social Security System with simple and easy rules for workers is not a simple matter. JHT savings involve very broad stakeholders (workers, employers, BPU (non-wage earners), fund managers and the government and involve very large long-term fund flows. The aim of this research is to explain the urgency of JHT management from a philosophical, juridical and sociological, as well as develop policy recommendations and good public communication management related to workers' retirement preparations. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection carried out through literature studies from various sources of regulatory documents, interviews, and FGDs with stakeholders. This process is able to capture perspectives theoretical and empirical regarding the Old Age Security scheme in Indonesia by considering philosophical, juridical, sociological, and political aspects. Analysis of various information is placed within the framework of an aging society welfare perspective. The results of this research show that workers and individuals who are no longer active in the labor market work will still be able to maintain the level of welfare by utilizing the contributions accumulated while still actively working. Countries that adhere to a universal welfare scheme place JHT as part of the cushion to support the welfare of an aging society which can be seen from the avoidance of generations. who are no longer productive or who are not active in the world of work from vulnerability.
