Abstract

This study examines the implementation of hadith concerning teacher-student relations within the context of Islamic education at STIBA Makassar. The focus of the research is on how the values embedded in the hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) are applied in the interactions between lecturers and students on campus. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a hadith science and case study approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that teacher-student relations at STIBA Makassar are grounded in the principles of adab (proper etiquette), compassion, and respect, as taught in the hadiths. Character-building programs and the emotional closeness between lecturers and students are key examples of this hadith implementation. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the significance of harmonious relationships in Islamic education and offers practical guidance for educational institutions on incorporating hadith values in academic interactions.

Abstract

The hadiths which mention the nature of Allah Swt.'s "laughter" are part of a complex discussion in Islamic theological discourse, especially in the study of Asmā' wa Ṣifāt. This characteristic is included in the category of khabariyyah (based on news) characteristics which outwardly resemble the actions of creatures. This research aims to examine in depth the hadiths that mention Allah's laughter, the validity of their sanad, the meaning they contain, as well as the approach of the scholars in interpreting them. Using a literature study method and a descriptive-analytical approach, this paper shows the diversity of approaches between the Salaf and Khalaf groups in understanding this nature. On the one hand, a literal understanding is accepted within the limits of tanzih (purification from likeness), and on the other hand, there is a more rationalistic approach to takwil. This study emphasizes the importance of the principle of bilā kayf and caution in understanding the nature of Allah in order to avoid deviations from the faith.

Abstract

This study examines the hadiths concerning remaining seated after the Fajr prayer until sunrise and performing two units of prayer afterward, commonly known as the Ishraq prayer. It focuses on two main issues: the authenticity of the related hadiths and whether the Ishraq prayer constitutes an independent act of worship or is part of the Duha prayer. Employing a qualitative library research method, the study utilizes takhrij and isnad-matan analysis on hadiths collected from the Kutub al-Tis‘ah and other major hadith sources. The findings indicate that the hadiths regarding remaining seated after Fajr and performing two units of prayer after sunrise are thabit and authentic when considered separately. However, the narrations linking both acts with the specific virtue of earning a reward equivalent to Hajj and ‘Umrah remain disputed due to weaknesses in their chains of transmission. Thus, the Ishraq prayer should not be viewed as a distinct form of worship but rather as an early-time Duha prayer. Both practices are authentically established when performed independently, while claims of special merit require cautious scholarly consideration in hadith evaluation.

Abstract

This article discusses the development of Hadith studies in Southeast Asia, emphasizing the historical transmission, intellectual networks, and academic transformation of the discipline. The study aims to analyze the condition and progression of Hadith scholarship in the region and to explore the contribution and dedication of Southeast Asian scholars in preserving and advancing the field. Using a qualitative approach through library research, this study examines classical and contemporary literature, including the works of early scholars such as Nuruddin ar-Raniri, Abd ar-Rauf al-Fansuri, and Mahfudz at-Tarmasi, as well as recent institutional developments in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam. The findings reveal that Hadith studies in Southeast Asia evolved from traditional oral transmission and pesantren-based education into a more systematic and academic discipline in higher education institutions. Moreover, the integration of modern methodologies—such as hermeneutical, contextual, and digital approaches—demonstrates the adaptability of Hadith studies to current scientific and societal challenges. This research contributes to Islamic studies by providing a comprehensive understanding of the continuity and renewal of Hadith scholarship in the Southeast Asian intellectual landscape.

Abstract

This study examines the moral values of character formation as reflected in the Prophet’s hadiths within Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī. It arises from the contemporary crisis of morality and character, emphasizing the need to revitalize prophetic ethics and spiritual values in Islamic education. The aim of this research is to describe the concept of character formation in the Prophet’s traditions, identify key moral values, and analyze their relevance to modern character education. Employing a qualitative method with a thematic (mawḍū‘ī) approach, primary data were collected from Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and supported by secondary literature on hadith interpretation and Islamic education. Data were analyzed descriptively and contextually to uncover the relationship between moral values and practical character education. The findings reveal that the hadiths highlight fundamental virtues such as honesty (ṣidq), trustworthiness (amānah), patience (ḥilm), and humility (tawāḍu‘) as the foundation of a noble Muslim personality. These values establish harmony between the human–God relationship (ḥabl min Allāh) and interpersonal ethics (ḥabl min al-nās). Theoretically, this research enriches thematic hadith studies in the discipline of Islamic education; practically, it contributes to developing a hadith-based framework for moral and character education relevant to the challenges of the modern era.

Abstract

This study examines the semantic meaning of the term tarbiyah and its various derivatives in the Prophetic hadith, as well as their implications for the concepts of Islamic education and learning. Although the term tarbiyah has been widely employed in contemporary Islamic educational discourse, prevailing interpretations often rely primarily on terminological definitions without tracing its lexical and contextual semantic structures within hadith as an authoritative primary source of Islam. This study aims to analyze the etymological roots, derivative forms, and semantic expansions of tarbiyah in hadith, including verbal forms such as tarubbu, yurabbī, yarubbānī, and the expression yurabbī al-nās, as well as nominal forms such as rabb, rabbuhā, and rabbāniyyīn. The research adopts a library-based qualitative approach, employing semantic-linguistic analysis and the taḥlīlī method to examine relevant hadith texts. The findings reveal that the concept of tarbiyah in hadith encompasses six core meanings: (1) preservation and care (ḥifẓ wa riʿāyah), (2) management and development (tanmiyah wa ṣiyānah), (3) education and instruction (taʿlīm wa taʾdīb), (4) guidance and leadership (taujīh wa siyādah), (5) perfection and cultivation (takmīl wa inhmāk), and (6) gradual educational development (tadarruj fī al-taʿlīm). These findings affirm that tarbiyah in hadith is not merely cognitive in nature but represents a comprehensive process that progressively nurtures human potential toward moral and ethical perfection. This study contributes to strengthening the conceptual foundations of Islamic education by restoring the meaning of tarbiyah to its semantic roots and prophetic praxis.
