Abstract

This study aims: (1) to determine the significant impact of self-confidence on students' public speaking abilities; (2) to find out what causes the lack of confidence in students' public speaking abilities. This study used a quantitative method using simple random sampling technique in taking the sample. The subjects of this study were Business English Communication students’ batch 2020. The types of instruments and data collection techniques were questionnaires with two types, namely open-ended questionnaires and also closed-ended questionnaires. Data analysis used the normality test, simple linear regression test and hypothesis testing. The results showed that there was an impact of self-confidence on students' public speaking abilitiy, meaning that a significance value of 0.005 was less than 0.05 and a value of 2.991 was greater than a of 2.036. So, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence between self-confidence on public speaking or it can be said that is rejected and is accepted, which means that variable X has an effect on variable Y.

Abstract

English is broadly used as a lingua franca to talk amongst overseas travelers, in other term, it's far referred as global language. Undeniably, communication skills especially in English are very important for employees in the workplace, especially for those who work in the tourism industry. And English is one of the essential factors to improve tourism industry. After noting the widespread influence of English skills in the world of work, especially in tourism. The writer took the research entitled “The Influence of Employees’ English Skills to Their Work Performance (A Study Case at Regional Office for Cultural Properties Preservation in Sulawesi)”. The purpose of this study was to find out whether or not there is an influence of English skills on employees’ performance at the Regional Office for Cultural Properties Preservation in South Sulawesi. This study is qualitative research using the descriptive approach to describe the object of the research without any interference from the researcher. The data collection techniques used in this study were observation and interviews. This study shows that the employees’ English skills were still lacking. However, the employees still used English at every chance they get. In addition, the employees use English to serve foreign tourists who come to visit, handle incoming letters, make leaflets and other media, make publications, understand texts in English, and translate a book from Indonesian to English and vice versa. In addition, translator applications or websites, such as Google Translate, are often used by employees to help them do their assignments. Furthermore, it was also found that the use of English has influenced employees’ performance, English can help them in completing their work. Therefore, it is suggested that the Regional Office for Cultural Properties Preservation in South Sulawesi, especially the Public Service and Publication working group conduct English language training for employees.

Abstract

A marketing process that uses media features as a sales facility starts with product branding and ends with expanding sales reach is referred to as digital marketing or digitization capabilities. This research aims to find out what market digitalization applications used. Then, this research considered of implementation digitalization in selling transactions, payment systems, and market management, it also discussed the impact of market digitalization in carrying out selling activities and payment transaction in Kampung Baru Public Market Makassar. Descriptive qualitative method has been used in this research. Interviews were conducted with traders and a staff using purposive technique. Observations were made in the field as well as observing objects through the application platform. This study found the types of applications used in the market area are divided into sales applications, payment transactions, and market management applications. The use of this application originated from the COVID-19 pandemic which required activities to be carried out from home. Some of the impacts felt for traders include escalate sales, enlarge sales channels, improving promotion of the products and services, effective time and sales, and accelerate the processing of billing, verification, and payment.

Abstract

This study aims to find out whether the communication and work environment at PDAM Makassar has been effective and also to find out whether the effectiveness of communication and work environment affects employee performance at PDAM Makassar. This research uses the qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques use observation checklist research instruments and interview guidelines. The subjects of this study were all employees of PDAM Makassar Service Area IV complaints unit and read meters with the number of speakers being as many as five people who were randomly selected. The data analysis used in this study is data analysis using thematic analysis. And the results of observations and interviews showed that the communication and work environment in Service Area IV of the complaints and reading meter units have been effective. Characterized by well-established communication, the message you want to convey can be conveyed well to the interlocutor, as well as the creation of a comfortable work environment for employees to carry out work, work support facilities are adequate so that work can be carried out properly. So the effectiveness of communication and the work environment affects the improvement of employee performance at PDAM Makassar

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to analyse what forms of verbal and non-verbal communication and the implementation of Teacher Talk applied in EFL classrooms. The research utilized descriptive qualitative method. The participants of the research were two English teachers in senior high school level in Jambi Province. The data were collected in the form of video recording and then data was analysed according to FLINT System and Darn Classification. The result showed that all elements of verbal communication in FLINT system were used in these EFL classrooms. Meanwhile, most of elements in nonverbal communication according to Darn Classification happened in these classes, they are Kinesics, Proxemics, Oculesics, Vocalics, Sound of symbol, Silence, Adornment, Posture, Locomotion, and Expression. Furthermore, the teachers applied teacher talk by using verbal and nonverbal communication to help students understand and make them engaged in English classes.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the implementation of blended learning in the EFL classroom. This research aims (1) to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of blended learning in an EFL classroom. (2) to know about the difficulties are teachers and students are communicating in blended learning. (3) to learn the way teachers and students solve the difficulties in blended learning. The researcher conducted this research at SMA Negeri 4 Selayar. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this research were fifteen students and two English teachers from SMA Negeri 4 Selayar. The researcher used classroom observation and interviews as the research instrument. It reveals and explains the implementation in the EFL classroom, limited facilities and infrastructure and the use of online and network applications are important factors. Researchers see that the application of blended learning in SMA Negeri 4 Selayar in its application is very relevant at this time. The results of this study are based on what has been compiled by researchers while researching in the field or at SMA 4 Takalar. The findings collected by researchers namely. (1) The advantages and disadvantages of blended learning where the disadvantages are more dominant than the advantages, because another impact of blended learning is that students cannot focus and get material clearly as in offline learning, and the teacher has difficulty controlling students and cannot assess student assignments. (2) The difficulties or problems encountered are common factors during blended learning (online) students are more constrained by the network and also the internet connection. Meanwhile, during class (offline) students sometimes cannot concentrate on completing assignments given by the teacher. (3) the teacher's solution to improve blended learning in English classes is to develop lesson plans (learning models) that are easily understood by students. The discussion is based on the overall findings that are reinforced by the theory in question. Conclusions and suggestions are divided into 3 according to the constructive problem formulation.
