Abstract

This study explores the translation of Uzbek neologisms into English, focusing on the influence of cultural and contextual factors. The analysis highlights how cultural differences, domain-specific characteristics, and the impact of social media shape translation strategies and semantic accuracy. Using corpus linguistics methods, the study examines neologisms across various sectors, including technology (80% translated via calquing or direct translation), economics (70% calquing), culture (60% descriptive translation), and social media (70% transliteration). Examples such as “xalqona” (folk-style/traditional Uzbek-style) and “xesh” (hashtag) illustrate the challenges of preserving cultural nuances and standardizing informal terms. Corpus analysis reveals that 40% of neologisms are included in Uzbek explanatory dictionaries, while only 30% have equivalents in Uzbek-English translation dictionaries, with 70% of social media neologisms absent. The findings propose corpus-based approaches and standardized equivalents to enhance dictionary coverage and optimize translation processes, contributing to the fields of linguistics and translation studies

Abstract

The rapid evolution of environmental science and ecological awareness has precipitated the emergence of numerous neologisms within ecological discourse. This study examines the semantic features and linguistic characteristics of ecological neologisms through a comprehensive analysis of contemporary environmental terminology. Using corpus linguistic methods and semantic field theory, we analyzed 450 ecological neologisms collected from scientific literature, environmental reports, and digital media sources between 2010-2024. Our findings reveal distinct semantic patterns including metaphorical extensions, compound formations, and hybrid constructions that reflect both scientific precision and public accessibility. The results demonstrate that ecological neologisms exhibit unique morphological structures, semantic transparency, and pragmatic functions that distinguish them from general scientific terminology. These findings contribute to our understanding of how environmental discourse shapes and is shaped by linguistic innovation, with implications for science communication and environmental education.

Abstract

In an era of intensifying globalization, the preservation of cultural heritage and traditional family values has become increasingly vital. The family, as a fundamental social institution, reflects distinct cultural identities through its structure, values, and interpersonal dynamics. The historical and cultural ties between Uzbekistan and Arab nations provide a unique opportunity to investigate similarities in familial traditions. Prior works by scholars such as Al-Jahiz and Ibn Khaldun underscore long-standing parallels in social norms between these peoples. While existing studies highlight isolated features of either Uzbek or Arab family systems, comparative cross-cultural research systematically analyzing their shared structural and psychosocial traits remains limited. This study aims to explore the structural, value-based, and socio-psychological commonalities in Uzbek and Arab families, with a focus on respect for elders, collective decision-making, and the influence of traditional ceremonies. Findings reveal that both cultures predominantly follow extended family models characterized by patriarchal structures, multi-generational living, and high regard for familial unity. Core values such as reverence for parents, kinship, adherence to traditions, and collectivism were rated similarly high in both cultures. By applying cross-cultural psychology frameworks such as Schwartz’s value theory and Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model this research offers a comprehensive comparative perspective on family systems across two culturally rich societies. The study contributes to broader discussions on cultural identity and intercultural communication, offering insights for fostering mutual understanding in multicultural contexts and guiding efforts to preserve traditional family values amid global cultural convergence.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to identify the strategies used by the teacher in teaching English vocabulary to sixth-grade students at Raudhatul Jannah Islamic Elementary School, to explore how these strategies were implemented, and to examine the challenges faced by the teacher during the teaching process. This study employed a qualitative approach to answer the formulated research questions. The instruments used in collecting the data were observation, interviews, questionnaire and document review. The findings revealed that the teacher applied four main strategies in teaching vocabulary: (1) using pictures, (2) games, (3) song, and (4) making task. The implementation of these strategies involved various interactive and student-centered activities such as visual aids, singing, sentence construction, and game-based learning. However, the study also found that the teacher faced several challenges in the teaching process, including students’ lack of motivation (1), Insufficient Time (2), and students’ limited vocabulary (3). Despite these obstacles, the teacher made continuous efforts to adapt teaching methods and support student learning.

Abstract

The research aimed to determine whether verbal-linguistic intelligence significantly influences students’ writing performance. Nineteen students from the TBIG 2 class of 2024 participated in the study. The students’ verbal-linguistic intelligence was measured using a questionnaire, while their writing scores were obtained from the course lecturer. The data were analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient with SPSS version 27. The analysis revealed a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.654 with a significance value (p) of 0.002. These results indicate a strong positive correlation, meaning students with higher verbal-linguistic intelligence tend to perform better in writing tasks. The findings support Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences, emphasizing the contribution of verbal-linguistic intelligence to students’ language skills, particularly in expressing ideas effectively in written form. Based on the statistical evidence, the study concludes that verbal-linguistic intelligence has a significant correlation with the writing ability of EFL students at UIN Datokarama Palu.

Abstract

This study investigates the forms and functions of code-switching and code-mixing in a bilingual podcast episode of The Indah G Show on YouTube, featuring Indah Gunawan and Andovi Da Lopez. Using a qualitative research design, discourse analysis was applied to examine 132 instances of code-switching and 187 of code-mixing. Poplack’s (1980) and Muysken’s (2000) typologies were used to classify structural forms, while Hoffman’s (1991) framework was employed to identify their communicative functions. The analysis revealed that intra-sentential switching and insertion were the most frequently used types, indicating a high degree of bilingual fluency and integration. The most dominant function was clarifying speech for the listener, followed by discussing specific topics and expressing group identity. These findings demonstrate that language alternation in digital media is both strategic and context-sensitive, allowing bilingual speakers to engage audiences, convey meaning more effectively, and construct fluid linguistic identities. The study offers empirical insights into bilingual language use in online entertainment and contributes to a broader understanding of multilingual practices in digital communication

Abstract

This qualitative case study examines English teachers’ perceptions and experiences with AI-assisted module creation using Perplexity AI within the Merdeka Curriculum framework at MTsN 2 Blitar, Indonesia. The increasing demand for innovative, curriculum-aligned teaching materials and the growing integration of artificial intelligence in education have elevated the importance of incorporating digital tools into teachers’ professional practices. The research aimed to explore how Perplexity AI supports and transforms the module creation process, how teachers perceive the impact and challenges of using AI, and to what extent the resulting modules align with the Merdeka Curriculum objectives. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with three English teachers, classroom observations of the module development workflow, and a detailed analysis of AI-generated and teacher-adapted modules. Thematic analysis revealed that teachers perceive Perplexity AI as highly empowering, reporting substantial time savings, enhanced confidence, and increased motivation to innovate instructional practices. Notably, module preparation time was reduced from several days or weeks to just 1–2 hours. Teachers valued the intuitive design, rapid content generation, and support for diverse assessment types, while emphasizing the ongoing need for critical review and contextual adaptation. Challenges included the need for precise prompts, the requirement for manual integration with local content, and managing the risk of over-reliance on technology. The study highlights the pivotal role of teacher agency and adaptation in ensuring that AI-generated modules are relevant, comprehensive, and contextually appropriate. The findings provide practical insights for educators and policymakers supporting technology integration in English curriculum development and underscore the critical balance between technological affordance and pedagogical expertise.
