Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the meaning of the poem "Jauh" in the poetry collection "Pants" by Joko Pinurbo in 1996 using a semiotic approach developed by Riffaterre. This approach was chosen because it can explore the meaning of the diction used by the poet. To describe the data, a qualitative descriptive method was applied. The data source was taken from the poem "Jauh" by Joko Pinurbo, while the supporting data was taken from various literature related to Riffaterre's semiotic theory and Indonesian poetry. The analysis process begins with heuristic reading to understand the denotative meaning, followed by hermeneutic reading to find the second (connotative) meaning. In conclusion, the poem "Far" describes someone who is thinking about his death. The symbols used in this poem refer to the concepts of death and rebirth, as well as the relationship between individuals and the world around them. This research will add to the treasures of developing literary studies which focus on poetry analysis using a semiotic approach

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the types, strategies, and functions of speech acts in interviews conducted with public figures who are currently in the spotlight. This research is descriptive in nature, employing both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The data consists of utterances from three prominent figures who are currently the focus of public attention. The source of the data is interview videos from the "Mata Najwa" talk show. The methods and techniques used for data collection include the observation method with the nonparticipatory observation technique. Data validation was conducted using triangulation techniques. The findings of this study are as follows. First, five types of speech acts were identified: (1) assertive speech acts, (2) directive speech acts, (3) expressive speech acts, (4) commissive speech acts, and (5) declarative speech acts. The most dominant types of speech acts used were assertive and directive speech acts, indicating that the speakers, being the interviewees, provided many responses and explanations. Second, four speaking strategies were identified: (1) speaking directly without preamble, (2) speaking directly with positive politeness strategies, (3) speaking directly with negative politeness strategies, and (4) speaking ambiguously. The most dominant speaking strategies used were speaking directly without preamble and speaking directly with positive politeness strategies, indicating that the speakers aimed to communicate politely and respectfully with their interlocutors. Third, four functions of speech acts were identified: (1) competitive, (2) convivial, (3) collaborative, and (4) conflictive. The most dominant speech act functions used were collaborative and convivial, indicating that the speakers aimed to communicate optimistically while still considering social goals

Abstract

Portrait of the lifestyle of urban teenagers which is a form of life in explaining phenomena that occur in urban society. Urban society itself has different characteristics from rural society which can be seen from the way of thinking and the surrounding environment. One of the novels that can be seen is a portrait of urban teenagers entitled 12 Stories of Glen Anggara by Luluk HF. The life of urban teenagers is explained through the characters' behavior with their environment, such as towards friends and family, which influences their lifestyle. This research is included in qualitative research which uses descriptive methods. This research aims to describe: (1) a portrait of the lifestyle of urban teenagers regarding the prestige of recreation in the novel 12 Stories Glen Anggara by Luluk HF, (2) a portrait of urban teenagers about the instant lifestyle in the novel 12 Stories Glen Anggara by Luluk HF, (3) portrait of an urban teenager about an individualistic lifestyle in the novel 12 Stories Glen Anggara by Luluk HF, (4) portrait of an urban teenager about a virtual lifestyle in the novel 12 Stories Glen Anggara by Luluk HF. The data collection technique for this research involves reading and understanding from the beginning to the end of the novel first, then marking the parts that are research points in terms of lifestyle portraits, determining the main characters in the novel and inventorying the data in a format. The data validation technique used is the triangulation technique. The triangulation technique is carried out by creating various versions of questions, examining various data sources, utilizing various methods. The research findings on portraits of urban teenagers' lifestyles in the novel 12 Stories of Glen Anggara by Luluk HF include portraits of recreational prestige, portraits of instant lifestyles, portraits of individualist lifestyles, and portraits of virtual lifestyles

Abstract

This research is written to explain the portrait of the form and strategy of the existence of women's independence in the novel Jalan Bandungan by NH Dini. This research uses literary research with qualitative research and descriptive method. The data in this study are in the form of words, phrases, clauses, or sentences that describe the forms and strategies of the existence of women's independence in the novel Jalan Bandungan by NH Dini using theoretical studies of existentialist feminism. The findings of this research include the forms and strategies of the existence of women's independence as follows. (1) Forms of existence of women's independence, namely, (a) exist in themselves, (b) exist for themselves, (c) exist for others. (2) Strategies for the existence of women's independence, namely, (a) women can work, (b) women can become an intellectual, (c) women can achieve socialist transformation of society, (d) women can reject their Otherness.

Abstract

Research analyzing the values of love in novels is an important study that must be studied. This study aims to examine the various forms of love values in the novel Sabtu Bersama Bapak by Adhitya Mulya. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, where the data obtained in the form of character quotes (words, phrases, clauses, and sentences) and narrators in the novel that show the action of the form of love values. The data collected is analyzed by steps, namely (1) Describing or marking quotations related to the value of love in the novel, (2) Organizing data by recording quotations, (3) Explaining conclusions from all data obtained. Based on the data analysis, the forms of the value of love contained in the novel under study are (1) Love for God (Agapei), (2) Love for Family (Storge), (3) Love for Friends (Philia), (4) Romantic Love (Eros).

Abstract

This research aims to determine the forms of adolescent deviant behavior in the novel Lelaki Harimau by Eka Kurniawan, the factors that cause adolescent deviant behavior, and the impact of adolescent deviant behavior in the novel Lelaki Harimau. This research uses the theory of literary sociology studies. This type of research is literary research using descriptive methods. The data source used is the novel Lelaki Harimau by Eka Kurniawan. The results of this research are forms of deviant behavior, namely (a) drug abuse, (b) imperfect socialization process, (c) prostitution, (d) sexual deviation, (e) criminal acts, and (f) lifestyle. There are seven types of causes of adolescent deviant behavior, namely, (a) unhealthy mental attitude factors, (b) family disharmony, (c) factors that vent feelings of disappointment, (d) environmental factors, (e) the perpetrator has a sense of wanting to be praised, (f) the perpetrator undergoes a deviant learning process, (g) the perpetrator is unable to absorb norms. There are six types of impact of adolescent deviant behavior, namely (a) isolation, (b) disruption of mental development, (c) guilt, (d) crime, (e) fading of values and norms, and (f) disruption of social balance. The research results are as follows.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the portrait of urban women's lifestyles in the metropop novel To Tokyo To Love by Mariskova. This research employs a descriptive literary method. The data used for discussion include words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and dialogue that reflect various aspects of urban women's lifestyles, as conveyed through narration, the narrator, and character actions in To Tokyo To Love by Mariskova. The data collection technique was conducted in four stages: first, reading and comprehending the metropop novel To Tokyo To Love by Mariskova; second, identifying the main and side characters; third, marking sections of the novel that contain lifestyle-related data; and fourth, inventorying the data. Subsequently, the data were classified and analyzed based on the theories of mobility, instant, virtual, and individualist lifestyles. The data were then interpreted, conclusions were drawn, and a report was created. The analysis yielded the following results: (1) portraits of urban women's mobility lifestyle, (2) portraits of urban women's instant lifestyle, (3) portraits of urban women's virtual lifestyle, and (4) portraits of urban women's individualist lifestyle in Mariskova's metropop novel To Tokyo To Love. Among these four portraits, the most dominant is the portrayal of a virtual lifestyle.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) the structure of the story of the Legend of the Invisible Nature of the Urang Bunian Gunung Talang community in Nagari Air Batumbuk, Gunung Talang District, Solok Regency; and (2) the social function of this legend within the same community. This study employs a qualitative approach using descriptive methods. The focus of this research is the legendary story of the supernatural realm of the Urang Bunian in the Nagari Air Batumbuk community, Gunung Talang District, Solok Regency. Data were collected through recorded interviews and direct observation. The collected data were then analyzed in several stages: (1) data inventory (recording); (2) classification and analysis of the data; (3) concluding the results of the data classification and analysis; and (4) reporting the findings. Based on the results of the data analysis, the following were found: (1) the story structure of the legend of the supernatural realm of the Urang Bunian in the Nagari Air Batumbuk community includes: (a) the main character, the Urang Bunian; (b) the plot, which is divided into three stages: initial, middle, and final; (c) the setting, which encompasses place, time, and social context; and (d) the mandate to always maintain ethics and manners when entering the forest, as well as to protect the surrounding natural environment; and (2) the social functions of the Urang Bunian legend include education, inheritance, and identity.

Abstract

According to Eneste (1991:60) the use of the word ecranization is used as a sharper term than the term adaptation. Ecranization consists of 3 types, namely addition, reduction, and change of variation. Ecranization is usually used for films adapted from novels. The focus of the research on the novel Balada Si Roy by Gol A Gong to the film Balada Si Roy by Fajar Nugros is to identify forms of ecranization which include reduction, addition, and change of variation related to elements of characters, plot events, and elements of the setting. This research is a qualitative research using descriptive methods. According to Sugiyono (2017:8) stated that qualitative analysis focuses on the designation of meaning, description, explanation and placement of data in their respective contexts and expressing them in the form of words rather than numbers. Siswantoro (2016:55) Literary research is descriptive in nature, therefore his research is also classified as a descriptive research method. With this method, researchers can describe changes in elements of characters, plot, and setting in the ecranization of the novel Balada Si Roy by Gol A Gong to the film Balada Si Roy by director Fajar Nugros. Based on the data obtained in the research above, the following conclusions can be drawn. (1) The reduction aspect consists of 97 reductions in character elements, plot events, and settings, and time that are not shown in the Balada Si Roy film by director Fajar Nugros. (2) The addition aspect consists of 56 additions of character elements, plot events, and setting elements that are not in the Balada Si Roy novel by Gol A Gong, and (3) The change aspect consists of 46 changes in variations of character elements, plot events, and settings

Abstract

This research aims to explain the forms of hedonism lifestyle of urban teenagers, the factors that cause hedonism lifestyle of urban teenagers, and the impact of hedonism lifestyle of urban teenagers in Mariposa novel by Luluk HF. The teory used in this research is literary sociology theory. This type of research is literary research using descriptive method. The data source of this research is the novel Mariposa by Luluk HF. The results of this research are (1) there are three forms of hedonism lifestyle of urban teenagers, namely (a) activities, (b) interests, and (c) opinions. (2) The factors that cause the hedonism lifestyle of urban teenagers are divided into two, namely (a) internal factors are factors that encourage someone to do something that comes from within that person consisting of attitudes, personality, and self-consept and (b) external factors are factors that cause something to happen that comes from outside the individual, consisting of one, namely family. (3) The impact of hedonism lifestyle of urban teenagers divided into two, namely (a) being a pursuer of physical identity and (b) having a high taste.
