Abstract

In this paper, the design of AXI4-Stream based modulator IP core for Visible Light Communication is reported. The modulator IP core conforms to the AXI4-Stream protocol standard, which is widely used in System-on-Chip (SoC) design. There are three modulation types in this IP core namely, Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK), Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK), and Quadrature Amplitude Modulation-16 (QAM-16). These modulation types are commonly used in the DCO-OFDM system. The modulation types can be selected programmatically from software that runs in the main processor by accessing the control register. The output of the modulator is designed for DCO-OFDM modulation using 64-point IFFT. According to the simulation results, this modulator IP core can achieve a throughput of 95.36 Mb/s, 184.77 Mb/s, and 347.81 Mb/s for BPSK, QPSK, and QAM-16, respectively. This modulator IP core is reusable in the DCO-OFDM system, so it increases productivity in DCO-OFDM system design.

Abstract

This research proposes a 2-D mapping method by a mobile robot using LIDAR sensor. The mobile robot used is a non-holonomic type with a differential driver designed to operate in an indoor area. The robot applies an occupancy grid map method that uses a probability rule to handle the uncertainties of the sensor. The quality of 2-D occupied map relies on the accuracy of distance measurements by the LIDAR sensor and the accuracy of position estimation. Position estimation is obtained by using the 2-D LIDAR odometry which is based on the laser scan matching technique. This research uses simulation model which has characteristics like real nature. All the robotic software operations are managed by the Robot Operating System (ROS) as one of the most popular software frameworks currently used by robot researchers. The experimental results show that the robot can arrange a 2-D map well which is indicated by the similarity between the reference ground truth and the resulting 2-D map.

Abstract

Correlated Double Ring channel modeling in the mobile to mobile communication system (M2M) and vehicular based communication system was pointed out. This modeling required the transmitter and receiver were randomly moving and surrounded by scatterers in a static ring. The scatterers’ positions were placed randomly at the radius of the ring of transmitter and receiver. Received signals were measured based on complex envelope parameters. Two signals propagation scenarios were implemented, they were signals of Rayleigh and Rician distributed. In order to calculate the Rayleigh and Rician complex envelope values, there were some parameters involved which were Angle of Arrival (AoA) and velocity of transmitter and receiver that created Doppler effects. The effects of AoA parameter were investigated towards envelope complex values of Rayleigh and Rician according to predetermined various velocities and scatterers’ positions were divided into four positions criteria. The simulation result shows that for scheme 2 at velocity 40 m/s, distribution magnitude for Rayleigh is 0,1 and Rician is 0,5. It concludes that Rician distribution always outperforms Rayleigh distribution for all predetermined velocities and this scheme give the largest magnitude over all. This is because of the closest distance between scatterers of transmitter and receiver. Also, certain velocities range over all scatterers’ positions, the magnitude of Rayleigh and Rician complex envelope have similar graphic tendency.

Abstract

Today, augmented reality has an important role in human activity, especially in the field of education. The increasing capabilities of mobile devices also contribute to augmented reality to reduce real world distance with the virtual world. This paper will discuss the design and testing of iBook as media of learning the Cirebon mask dance art. IBook is a form of optimisation of traditional books based on augmented reality. The iBook designs will interact with virtual objects through direct touch on the application interface (pinch and swipe). The technical testing of iBook is a test of marker less reading ability and audio response time test. The markerless detection test resulted in minimum response time less than 1 second, minimum distance of 64 cm and a maximum distance of 3 cm, a minimum angle of 23° and a maximum angle of 90°. Tracking test obtained a minimum distance of 3 cm and a maximum distance of 71 cm, a minimum angle of 90° and a maximum angle of 16°. Any markerless detection and tracking can be done in unobstructured condition of no more than 50%. The testing of audio content obtained activation response time less than 1 second with original duration equal to active duration.

Abstract

Software adds significant value to a wide range of products and services. Thus, in the process of software development, maintaining the quality of the software is an important aspect that the developer must do. In several software quality models, usability is stated as one of significant factor that gives impact to software performance. The existence of problems in usability will lead to less useful of the software. This research was conducted to assess software usability risk factors which derived from the attributes and sub-attributes of usability, that affecting the quality of the software negatively. The importance of risk factors assessed by using fuzzy-AHP that was used to identify the dominant factor that become the source of risk. The risk assessment on software usability with fuzzy methodology made it possible to process the evaluation of the respondents defined by linguistic format, in which information can be processed from the data were insufficient. This fuzzy methodology allowed to process the data that were subjective, inaccurate or vague.

Abstract

The massive demands for high-rate application drove the telecommunication service to use large bandwidth capacity. The Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM), common use in Metro-WDM, can be a solution to provide large bandwidth in optical communications. In a communications system, there are attenuation and nonlinear effect decreasing the system performance. To overcome the limitation imposed by electrical regeneration to maintain system performance, a means of optical amplification was sought. In this paper presents the comparison of two competing technologies emerged: Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) and Raman Optical Amplifier (ROA) to overcome the attenuation in the nonlinear system. We designed the CWDM system using 8 channels with 20 nm channel spacing and 60 km length. The result was conducted by varying the optical power launch using -8, -6, -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, and 6 dBm. Based on the result of the research, Raman amplification can maintain the BER and the Q-factor that meet the ITU-T standard for all optical power launch value, but EDFA can maintain those for optical power launch more than 0 dBm. In addition, the received power in Raman amplification larger than that received in EDFA. In conclusion, a CWDM system using ROA amplifier prefer to use for the system than using the EDFA amplifier.

Abstract

Equal Cost Multipath Routing (ECMP) is a routing application where all available paths between two nodes are utilized by statically mapping each path to possible traffics between the source and destination hosts in a network. This configuration can lead to congestion if there are two or more traffics being transmitted into paths with overlapping links, despite the availability of less busy paths. Software Defined Networking (SDN) has the ability to increase the dynamicity of ECMP by allowing the controller to monitor available bandwidths of all links in the network in real-time. The measured bandwidth is then implemented as the basis of the calculation to determine which path traffic will take. In this research, an SDN-based ECMP application that can prevent network congestion was made by measuring the available bandwidth of each available paths beforehand, thus making different traffics transmitted on non-overlapped paths as much as possible. The proposed scheme increased the throughput by 14.21% and decreased the delay by 99% in comparison to standard ECMP when congestion occurs and has 75.2% lower load standard deviation in comparison to round-robin load balancer.

Abstract

Wireless network technology that is used today is developing rapidly because of the increase needed for location information of an object with high accuracy. Global Positioning System (GPS) is a technology to estimate the current location. Unfortunately, GPS has a lack of accuracy around 10 meters when used indoors. Therefore, it began to be developed with the concept of an indoor positioning system. This is a technology used to estimate the location of objects in a building by utilizing WSN (Wireless Sensor Network). The purpose of this study is to estimate the location of the unknown nodes in the lecturer room as objects and obtain the accuracy of the system being tested. The positioning process is based on the received signal strength (RSSI) on the unknown node using the ZigBee module. The trilateration method is used to estimate the unknown nodes located at the observation area based on the signal strength received at the time of testing. The result shows that the path loss coefficient value at the observation area was 0.9836 and the Mean Square Error of the test was 1.54 meters, which implies that the system can be a solution to the indoor GPS problem.

Abstract

On this research, Internet of Things (IoT) as an advanced technology is used to monitor the height of trash from a trash can in order to give notification whether the height of trash is already reaching the maximum height limit or not. To support those needs, we used NodeMCU as a microcontroller, ultrasonic sensor, MQTT as IoT protocol, and Android to display the data. After we did the system performance test, we had the biggest result of end-to-end delay which was 2.06875 seconds when the packet delivery was set to 1000 ms with 3 active nodes and the smallest result of end-to-end delay which was 0.26055 seconds when the packet delivery was set to 100 ms with 1 active node. The biggest result of throughput was 597.17 Bytes/s when the packet delivery was set to 100 ms with 1 active node and the smallest result of throughput was 75.86 Bytes/s when the packet delivery was set to 1000 ms with 3 active nodes. The biggest result of availability and reliability was 99.905% when the packet delivery was set to 1000 ms and the smallest result was 99.833% when the packet delivery was set to 100 ms.
