Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze in depth the role of nursing in managing dyspnea symptoms in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) through a qualitative-descriptive approach based on literature review. This study focuses on identifying effective nursing interventions, their implementation mechanisms, and their impact on dyspnea symptom control and improved quality of life for patients. Data were obtained from various scientific sources such as international journals, research reports, and recent academic articles (2019–2025) relevant to the research topic. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of theme identification, data reduction, concept categorization, and inductive conclusion drawing to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon under study. The results showed that non-pharmacological nursing interventions such as pursed-lip breathing, diaphragmatic breathing, progressive relaxation, pulmonary rehabilitation, and self-education programs were proven to reduce the intensity of dyspnea, improve lung function, and increase patients' self-management abilities. In addition, the application of the empowerment-based care model and nurse-led pulmonary rehabilitation contributed to increased therapy compliance and psychological well-being of patients. Overall, these findings reinforce the strategic role of nurses as educators, facilitators, and companions in the comprehensive care of COPD patients and provide a theoretical basis for the development of evidence-based nursing interventions in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to review and summarize the existing literature on the impact of recurrent abdominal pain on quality of life in children. This study employed a narrative literature review approach. Scientific articles were retrieved from PubMed, Scopus, and ScienceDirect using keywords related to recurrent abdominal pain and quality of life in children. Articles published between 2014 and 2024 and relevant to the topic were reviewed narratively to identify key themes concerning the impact of RAP on children’s quality of life. A total of 10 relevant articles were analyzed in this review. Overall, the literature indicates that children with recurrent abdominal pain experience a lower quality of life compared to healthy children, particularly in the emotional and physical functioning domains. Impairments in school and social functioning were also consistently reported across studies. Psychosocial factors, such as anxiety and depression, frequently emerged as important determinants of reduced quality of life. The reviewed literature demonstrates that recurrent abdominal pain has a multidimensional impact on children’s quality of life. Therefore, the management of RAP should adopt a holistic approach that addresses not only physical aspects but also the psychological and social well-being of the child.

Abstract

This study aimed to formulate and evaluate a medicinal herbal shampoo based on Ziziphus spina-christi leaves, olive oil, and potassium hydroxide (KOH). Z. spina-christi is rich in saponins, providing natural cleansing, anti-dandruff, and soothing effects, while olive oil contributes hydration and protection for hair. KOH was used to saponify the oil, producing a mild liquid potassium soap suitable for scalp application. The optimized formulation contained 15% olive oil, stoichiometrically calculated KOH, and 3% finely powdered Z. spina-christi extract, diluted with distilled water. Natural preservatives were included to enhance stability, and the pH was adjusted to 6.0, ensuring optimal scalp compatibility.Evaluation included physicochemical characterization (pH, viscosity, appearance), microbial stability (total microbial count over 1–3 months), and dermatological safety (patch test). Preliminary anti-dandruff efficacy was also assessed. The shampoo demonstrated mild cleansing, moderate foaming, moisturizing, and soothing properties, while remaining free from synthetic surfactants . This work presents a scientifically validated herbal shampoo integrating traditional plant-based remedies with modern formulation principles, offering a safe, effective, and natural alternative for hair care. The findings support the potential of Z. spina-christi and olive oil as key ingredients in herbal medicated shampoos with enhanced anti-dandruff and hair-conditioning performance.

Abstract

This study aims to provide a descriptive analysis of preventive behaviors toward diabetes mellitus (DM) within community contexts based on findings from recent literature. Using a qualitative descriptive design through a library-based study, data were collected from academic journals, systematic reviews, and relevant official publications published between 2015 and 2025. The analysis employed thematic identification, data reduction, conceptual categorization, and inductive interpretation to synthesize patterns of community-based diabetes prevention practices. The results indicate that education, lifestyle modification, family involvement, and culturally adapted interventions are the most effective components in fostering preventive behaviors. Moreover, community participation and social support significantly enhance adherence and behavioral consistency, while the integration of digital technologies (mHealth) expands accessibility and engagement. The findings reaffirm the relevance of behavioral frameworks such as the Health Belief Model and Theory of Planned Behavior, emphasizing that sustainable prevention depends on the interaction between personal motivation and sociocultural context. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how community-driven strategies can mitigate diabetes risks and highlights the importance of culturally sensitive health promotion. Future research should adopt triangulation methods and longitudinal analysis to evaluate long-term impacts and expand insights into the social determinants influencing preventive behavior.

Abstract

This case report presents the prosthodontic management of a 32-year-old female patient who attended YARSI Dental Hospital, Jakarta, with complaints of discomfort and impaired chewing due to missing posterior mandibular teeth. Teeth 36, 46, and 47 had been extracted two years earlier as a result of extensive caries. The patient reported no systemic diseases, allergies, or parafunctional habits and demonstrated satisfactory oral hygiene. Clinical and radiographic examinations revealed favorable oral conditions, including healthy oral mucosa, adequate vestibular depth, and symmetrical facial features. Based on these findings, the patient was diagnosed with Kennedy Class III modification 1 partial edentulism. After receiving a detailed explanation of the treatment plan and providing informed consent, rehabilitation using a tooth- and mucosa-supported acrylic removable partial denture was selected to restore masticatory function and comfort. Anatomical impressions were taken using irreversible hydrocolloid to obtain study models. The denture was designed with appropriate clasp assemblies, rest seats, and an acrylic base extending to the retromolar pad. Surveying, blockout procedures, rest seat preparation, jaw relation recording, tooth arrangement, and wax try-in were performed sequentially before laboratory processing with heat-cured acrylic resin. Upon insertion, the denture exhibited satisfactory retention, stability, occlusion, and patient comfort without causing soft tissue irritation. Post-insertion instructions were provided, and follow-up visits were conducted to evaluate adaptation and function. Minor occlusal adjustments were required during the initial follow-up. Subsequent evaluations demonstrated improved masticatory comfort, good adaptation, and high patient satisfaction. This case highlights the effectiveness of systematic clinical and laboratory procedures in achieving successful outcomes with acrylic removable partial dentures.

Abstract

This study sought to investigate the correlation between sleep quality and the frequency of junk food consumption with body mass index (BMI) among medical students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). A quantitative cross-sectional study was executed via purposive sampling of medical students from the 2020–2022 cohorts. An online questionnaire was used to collect data on the respondents' characteristics, their self-reported weight and height (to calculate BMI), their sleep quality (using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index), and how often they ate junk food (using a food frequency questionnaire). Separate correlation studies were conducted for men and women. There was no significant link between sleep quality and BMI in either males (p=0.502) or women (p=0.118). The frequency of junk food consumption did not show a significant correlation with BMI in women (p=0.292). For men, the frequency of junk food consumption had a strong positive link with BMI (r=0.490, p=0.008). In conclusion, sleep quality did not connect with BMI in either gender; nevertheless, increased junk food consumption was linked to a higher BMI exclusively among male students.
