This research is a descriptive quantitative study that aims to find out the acquisition of Korean subject and complement markers 이(i)/가(ga) of Indonesian Korean language learners, and difference in understanding Korean subject and complement markers 이(i)/가(ga) between native Korean speakers and Indonesian Korean language learners. Grammaticality Judment Test (GJT) and statistical tests were conducted on 60 learners of Korean learners, and 20 native Korean speakers to determine their acquisition and difference. The results found that learners acquisition was quite low as seen from the average of correct answers which was only 72 point for the highest and 45 for the lowest. In addition, it was also found that there is significant difference (Sig. 0.05) between native Korean speakers and Indonesian Korean language learners regarding understanding Korean subject and complement markers 이(i)/가(ga). Abstract

Along with the increasing interest in learning the Korean language and culture, textbooks have become important agents in disseminating culture. The cultural value in textbooks plays a crucial role in enhancing learners' cultural awareness. However, there has been limited research specifically examining cultural content in Korean language textbooks for foreigners. Therefore, this study aims to determine the representation of the culture that emerges in the Buku teks Bahasa Korea Terpadu untuk Orang Indonesia at basic and intermediate levels using the categorization of cultural contents from Cortazzi and Jin. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive method by comprehensively analyzing all aspects included, such as vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening, writing, pronunciation, and culture. The findings indicate an uneven distribution of cultural categories. The target culture category dominates with almost three-quarters of the total content, while the source culture category is less represented. The implication is that this study emphasizes the urgency of developing balanced textbooks to enhance equitable cultural awareness among Korean language learners.

Abstract

Epistemic modality is expressed through various grammatical forms, adverbs, and certain phrases that indicate degrees of certainty, doubt, or speculation. This research aims to determine the various forms and meanings of epistemic modality used by the speakers. The method used in this research was a descriptive qualitative method. The data source was a discussion entitled “Moon Jae-in Jeongbu, Jipgap Japgi Seonggonghalkka?”. The data collection techniques used in this research were literature study, listening, and note taking. The research employed the analysis technique proposed by Miles and Huberman, namely Interactive Model. The analysis results showed that there were nine out of eleven forms of epistemic modality: {(N)}, {(V)}, {(N) (V)}, {(N) (AUX)}, {(N) (COP)}, {(N) (AUX-Sfx) (Vneg)}, {(-Sfx) (V)}, {(AUX)}, and {(-SfxThe {(N) (V)} appears the most. This form is fully productive because it has a semantic appropriateness. Furthermore, the analysis results demonstrated that there were three gradients in the meaning of epistemic modality used by the speakers: certainty, probability, and possibility. The probability appears the most. This means that participants in the discussion are quite confident of their speech. The research results indicate that the participants in the discussion employed various ways to express the certainty, probability, and possibility of their speech.
