Abstract

One of the difficulties students experience in learning Japanese grammar is limited study time. Practical learning without limitations of space, time, and place through an e-learning system allows students to learn independently, efficiently, and effectively which also can be applied as a solution to improve students' mastery of Japanese grammar. This research applies the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) model in developing e-learning application designs on smartphones. The data in this study were collected using pre-experimental methods and by distributing Likert scale questionnaires to fifteen students. The application developed is named “Manabu Bunpou”, validated by the IT team, and consists of JLPT level N4 grammar practice tests, several levels, and quizzes. The material including ninety-three Japanese sentence patterns developed from several sources and also contains conversation videos accompanied by texts. From the questionnaires distributed to Japanese language learners, the “Manabu Bunpou” application is considered highly accessible, helps improve understanding of basic Japanese grammar, and supports independent learning. However, according to the participants, the materials in the application are still limited and hence need further development.

Abstract

Epistemic modality is expressed through various grammatical forms, adverbs, and certain phrases that indicate degrees of certainty, doubt, or speculation. This research aims to determine the various forms and meanings of epistemic modality used by the speakers. The method used in this research was a descriptive qualitative method. The data source was a discussion entitled “Moon Jae-in Jeongbu, Jipgap Japgi Seonggonghalkka?”. The data collection techniques used in this research were literature study, listening, and note taking. The research employed the analysis technique proposed by Miles and Huberman, namely Interactive Model. The analysis results showed that there were nine out of eleven forms of epistemic modality: {(N)}, {(V)}, {(N) (V)}, {(N) (AUX)}, {(N) (COP)}, {(N) (AUX-Sfx) (Vneg)}, {(-Sfx) (V)}, {(AUX)}, and {(-SfxThe {(N) (V)} appears the most. This form is fully productive because it has a semantic appropriateness. Furthermore, the analysis results demonstrated that there were three gradients in the meaning of epistemic modality used by the speakers: certainty, probability, and possibility. The probability appears the most. This means that participants in the discussion are quite confident of their speech. The research results indicate that the participants in the discussion employed various ways to express the certainty, probability, and possibility of their speech.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze errors in the use of jouken hyougen among learners of the Japanese language. It focuses on identifying the common types of errors and describing the factors that cause these errors. The research employs a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The participants consist of 21 students from Widyatama University, who have studied Japanese for at least two years. Data were collected through written tests, multiple choice questions, true-false questions, and questionnaires. The result of the data analysis reveal that the most frequent errors occured in the use of the tara form, followed by errors in the to and ba forms. Many learners experience difficulties in understanding the appropriate context for each sentence structure, requiring more time to study jouken hyougen, experiencing confusion in distinguishing the different forms, and make mistakes in applying the gramatical rules. The percentage of errors recorded was 52.37% for the to form, 47.61% for the ba form, 76.19% for the tara form, and 33.32% for the nara form. The factors contributing to these errors include learners lack of understanding of the proper function and use of each form in sentences, the influence of interference of their mother tongue, insufficient practice in writing and speaking with jouken hyougen in real life situations, and social factors.

Abstract

The phenomenon of family involvement in acts of terrorism in Indonesia indicates a shift in the pattern of radicalization from the public sphere to the private sphere. This research aims to trace the sociological roots of terrorism by emphasizing the role of family dysfunction and reviewing the relevance of Islamic family law principles in preventing the radicalization process early on. The method used is qualitative with a case study approach, through document analysis, literature study, and in-depth interviews with relevant resource persons, such as former terrorists, sociology experts, and Islamic law experts. The results show that most terrorists come from dysfunctional families, characterized by a lack of communication, neglectful or harsh parenting, and the absence of moderate spiritual role models. The radicalization process takes place within the home, through closed recitations, digital extreme content, and internal indoctrination. These findings indicate the non-implementation of maqashid sharia principles in family life, such as the protection of the soul, mind and offspring. Therefore, the de-radicalization approach must be multidisciplinary by integrating the perspectives of sociology, Islamic law and family education. Islamic family law not only functions as a legal-formal norm, but also as an ethical and practical guideline in building family resilience as the first bulwark against violent ideologies.
