Abstract

The increasing transportation activity in urban areas contributes significantly to air pollution, particularly through emissions containing Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂). This reactive oxidizing gas can cause respiratory disorders and eye irritation, especially among high-risk groups such as permanent vendors working in bus terminals. This study aimed to analyze the environmental health risks of NO₂ exposure and identify related health complaints among permanent vendors at Brawijaya Bus Terminal, Banyuwangi Regency. A descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted and analyzed using the Environmental Health Risk Assessment (EHRA) method. Secondary data on NO₂ concentrations were obtained from the Banyuwangi Environmental Agency (average 0.00874 mg/m³), while primary data on respondent characteristics and health complaints were collected through questionnaires involving 10 permanent vendors. The results showed that the Risk Quotient (RQ) values for both realtime and lifetime exposure were below 1, indicating no significant non-carcinogenic risk. However, 60% of respondents reported coughing, 30% experienced shortness of breath, and 40–60% reported eye irritation. These findings indicate potential long-term health effects even though NO₂ levels remain below national air quality standards. Regular air quality monitoring, vehicle emission control, and health education for vendors are recommended to reduce exposure risks in transportation environments.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with a high prevalence in Indonesia that requires appropriate dietary management to prevent complications. Nutrition education plays a crucial role not only in improving patient knowledge but also in influencing eating behavior and dietary compliance. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of nutrition education on dietary compliance and food waste among hospitalized DM patients at Muhammadiyah Hospital Gresik. This pre-experimental research used a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 20 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The independent variable was nutrition education in the form of counseling, leaflets, and direct guidance, while the dependent variables were dietary compliance and food waste, measured using observation and the food weighing method with a scoring system of 0–25–50–75–100%. The results showed a significant increase in dietary compliance from 30% to 75% and a decrease in food waste from 65% to 20% after education (p < 0.05). Thus, nutrition education effectively improves dietary adherence and reduces food waste among DM patients.

Abstract

Hospitals are healthcare institutions with a high risk of disease transmission and cross-contamination, both for patients and healthcare workers. One of the key measures to prevent nosocomial infections is the proper and consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by nutrition installation staff. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing PPE compliance in the Nutrition Installation of Hospital X. This research employed a descriptive quantitative design involving 7 nutrition staff members consisting of 5 food servers (71.43%) and 2 cooks (28.57%). Based on educational background, most respondents had senior high school education (85.71%), while 1 respondent (14.29%) had an elementary-level education. Regarding work experience, 6 respondents (85.71%) had worked for more than 5 years, and 1 respondent (14.29%) had less than 5 years of experience. The results showed that most respondents had good knowledge of PPE compliance (72.8%), while 27.1% demonstrated moderate knowledge. In terms of attitude, 68.8% showed good attitudes, and 32.2% showed moderate attitudes. These findings indicate that the nutrition installation staff at Hospital X have a good understanding of the importance of PPE in ensuring safety and hygiene. However, regular training, continuous supervision, and ergonomic improvement of PPE are still needed to maintain and improve consistent compliance.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between family support and quality of life of patients with diabetes mellitus at the Srandakan Health Center, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that has a significant impact on the physical, psychological, social, and environmental aspects of the patient. The increasing prevalence of DM, especially in the elderly population in Indonesia, demands a more effective and holistic management strategy. Family support has an important role in improving self-care behaviors and adherence to treatment, which has a direct impact on patients' quality of life. This study uses a quantitative correlational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. An independent variable is family support measured through informational, emotional, instrumental, and appreciative dimensions. Dependent variables are quality of life that include physical, psychological, social, and environmental aspects. The study population consisted of DM patients who visited the Srandakan Health Center. The results of the study are expected to show that supportive family involvement contributes positively to improving the quality of life of patients. These findings provide theoretical and practical implications for the development of nursing care and public health programs, particularly in the context of chronic diseases. This research also emphasizes the importance of comprehensive education and community participation in strengthening the role of the family as the main support system in the management of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a crucial stage of human development, during which adequate and balanced nutrition plays an important role in supporting growth and maintaining long-term health. At this age, eating habits begin to form, yet many adolescents tend to choose fast food, which generally has low nutritional value. Such foods are typically high in fat, sugar, and salt, but low in fiber from fruits and vegetables, potentially affecting their nutritional status. This study aims to examine the relationship between the frequency of Junk Food consumption and fiber intake with the nutritional status of students at SMP Negeri 9 Palu. This research employed an analytical quantitative approach using a cross-sectional design, involving a population of 97 students. Data were collected through the SQ-FFQ questionnaire to assess Junk Food consumption, 3×24-hour dietary recalls to measure fiber intake, and anthropometric measurements to determine nutritional status. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square test. The results indicated a significant relationship between Junk Food consumption and nutritional status (p < 0.05). In contrast, fiber intake showed no meaningful association (p > 0.05), possibly because most respondents had similarly low fiber intake, resulting in insufficient variation to influence nutritional status. Other factors such as total energy intake, physical activity, and sleep patterns may also contribute to adolescents’ nutritional conditions. These findings highlight the importance of nutrition education in schools and the role of parents in monitoring adolescents’ eating habits. Further research with a larger sample size and more detailed dietary assessment methods is recommended to obtain more comprehensive results.

Abstract

Construction projects have unique characteristics that differ from other operational activities, as they are time-limited, involve a variety of resources, and require coordination across organizations. Occupational safety and health (K3) is an important element in protecting the workforce as well as the company's assets. This study aims to analyze the implementation of K3 policies in the construction project of PT. X. The research method uses a qualitative approach with case studies, while data analysis is carried out thematically based on the George C. Edwards III policy implementation model, which includes aspects of communication, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure. The results of the study show that the implementation of the K3 policy has been running but has not been optimal. The communication aspect has not been carried out regularly and continuously, resources are still limited with task trapping, the disposition of policy implementers is not evenly distributed, marked by low worker compliance, and the bureaucratic structure has not been supported by standardized SOPs and coordination between work units is still weak. This condition creates a gap between the K3 policy and the implementation in the field, so that it has the potential to increase the risk of work accidents and reduce the effectiveness of labor protection. This research emphasizes the need to strengthen communication, increase resources, implement commitment, and improve the bureaucratic structure to support the implementation of more effective K3 policies.
