Abstract

This study explores the philosophical and socio-economic dimensions of economic development, emphasizing the necessity of integrating social progress with economic growth for a sustainable and inclusive model. The research employs a qualitative approach, analyzing theoretical frameworks and historical data to assess the role of innovation, technological advancements, and structural changes in national economies. Findings indicate that economic growth alone does not guarantee societal well-being, as it must be complemented by investments in human capital, education, and institutional frameworks. Furthermore, structural transformations, such as shifts from agrarian to industrial and service-based economies, play a crucial role in long-term sustainability. The study highlights that political stability, social cohesion, and equitable resource distribution are essential factors in fostering economic development. The paper concludes that economic policies should prioritize both quantitative expansion and qualitative improvements to ensure holistic national progress.

Abstract

ASEAN’s digital metamorphosis, driven by 400 million internet users and a $330 billion digital economy (Google et al., 2021), positions geospatial technology and open-source ERP systems as lifelines for survival and growth. These technologies tackle urbanization crises, disaster resilience, and SME empowerment—critical for a region where 68% will live in cities by 2030 (UNESCAP, 2020) and SMEs form 89% of businesses (ADB, 2022). Geospatial tools, like Indonesia’s One Map Policy resolving 80,000 land conflicts, and ERPNext slashing SME costs by 60% (Cavalcanti et al., 2022; OpenGov Asia, 2018), showcase ASEAN’s cost-innovation edge. Yet, fragmented data policies and skill gaps threaten progress. Government initiatives like Thailand 4.0 and Vietnam’s Digital Transformation Program signal a shift toward inclusive tech ecosystems, while firms like Grab export geospatial logistics globally. This study argues ASEAN’s blend of agility, affordability, and ethical innovation offers a blueprint for the Global South—proving technology can democratize power, save lives, and ignite a moral revolution in an era of crisis.

Abstract

Lagos State's rapid urbanization and climate variability have exacerbated flood hazards, notably in the Lekki-Ajah corridor, where drainage deficits, governance failures, and informal settlement expansion combined to create this recurring crisis. Employing a secondary mixed-methods approach, this policy analysis combines descriptive statistical evaluation of rainfall and flood incidence records with a systematic content review of institutional policies and documented community responses to evaluate contemporary flood governance challenges in the corridor. Six alternative interventions, including structural drainage upgrades, community-based early warning, green infrastructure, regulatory enforcement, institutional coordination, and digital governance, were evaluated using a weighted multi-criteria framework and SWOT analysis. According to the findings, community-based and green infrastructure solutions perform best in terms of equity, feasibility, and sustainability, while digital governance tools enhance transparency and long-term compliance. A recommended hybrid resilience strategy combines targeted drainage upgrades, participatory micro-infrastructure and alert systems, ecosystem restoration, and digital monitoring to maximize each option's capabilities. A pilot implementation in Lekki-Ajah, Oworonshoki, Surulere, Ijora-Badia, and Ajegunle is proposed, with a strong implementation timeframe, financing model (₦20 billion), and monitoring and evaluation framework. This integrated roadmap, drawing on Bardach's Eightfold Path, prioritizes community empowerment, inter-agency collaboration, and adaptive policy-making to provide a scalable paradigm for flood resilience across Lagos' most susceptible corridors.

Abstract

The low rate of economic growth in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), coupled with high levels of poverty, unemployment, and population growth, forms the main basis of this study. The objective is to examine the influence of population size, open unemployment rate, and poverty level on regional economic growth over the period 2004 to 2023. This research applies a quantitative approach utilizing multiple linear regression analysis. The data used are secondary data obtained from official publications of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), including East Nusa Tenggara in Figures and socio-economic reports. The results indicate that population size and open unemployment significantly and negatively affect economic growth, while poverty level has a negative but statistically insignificant effect. These findings imply that population and unemployment growth, without being accompanied by improvements in employment opportunities and regional development equity, tend to hinder economic performance. Hence, development policies need to be more focused on human resource enhancement, local economic sector strengthening, and employment expansion to achieve more inclusive and sustainable economic progress in NTT.

Abstract

The advancement of technology and environmental issues has become a major challenge in the education sector. Schools are required to adopt digital transformation while simultaneously implementing sustainability principles. This study analyzes the role of ecological leadership and digital leadership in improving the performance of Sekolah Cendekia BAZNAS (SCB). This research employs a qualitative case study approach, collecting data through observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that ecological leadership at SCB is manifested in environmental policies, innovative programs such as the "Kebun Sehat" and Biofloc fish farming, as well as active participation in the Adiwiyata Program. Meanwhile, digital leadership is reflected in the utilization of technology for communication, digital learning, and data-driven school management. The implementation of these leadership styles has led to improvements in school accreditation, student achievements, and overall educational management effectiveness. This study implies that the synergy between ecological and digital leadership can serve as a strategic leadership model in modern education, focusing not only on academic excellence but also on fostering environmental awareness and digital literacy within the school community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of gender equality on poverty levels in Aceh Province during the 2018–2023 period. Gender equality is measured through three main indicators, namely the Gender Development Index (GDI), women's income contribution to household income, and women's Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR). The method used in this study is panel data regression with the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach. The results of the analysis show that the GDI has a negative and significant effect on poverty, which means that increasing gender equality contributes to reducing poverty levels. Women's income contributions also show a negative and significant effect, indicating that the greater the economic contribution of women, the lower the poverty level. Conversely, women's LFPR does not show a significant effect on poverty in Aceh. These findings indicate that the quality of women's participation in development is more important than the quantity of participation. Therefore, policies are needed to support improving the quality of women's resources and expanding their access to the economic sector as part of the poverty alleviation strategy in Aceh Province.

Abstract

This study examines the economic and social foundations of the traditional master–student (usta–shogird) system in the Ferghana Valley of Uzbekistan at the present stage. The objective of the research is to analyze the mechanisms of apprenticeship, the terms of training, forms of payment, and the economic incentives that sustain this institution. The methodology employed is qualitative, based on field observation, interviews with craftsmen, and analysis of historical and narrative sources. The findings demonstrate that despite modernization and the expansion of formal education, the master–student system remains a vital mechanism for knowledge transfer and skill development in crafts such as blacksmithing, embroidery, shoemaking, and pottery. The results highlight that apprenticeship is influenced not only by professional training but also by economic calculations, cultural norms, and moral obligations. The duration of training varies between 7–10 years, with blessings (duo) from the master serving as a critical legitimizing factor for independent practice. In conclusion, the usta–shogird institution has preserved its conservative structure while adapting to new socio-economic realities. Its persistence underscores the resilience of traditional economic systems and the importance of apprenticeship for cultural continuity in the Ferghana Valley.
