Abstract

The background of this classroom action research is: 1) the low critical reasoning ability of students as seen by the lack of active participation in discussions, 2) the lack of ability to analyze problems and argue logically, and 3) low learning outcomes in Catholic Religious Education (PAK) learning. So far, the learning approach applied by teachers still uses a lecture or monologue approach. This research aims to: 1) improve students' critical reasoning skills through active participation in discussions in PAK lessons through the Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach, 2) improve students' ability to analyze problems and argue logically, and 3) improve student learning outcomes in Catholic Religious Education (PAK) learning. To overcome this challenge, interesting learning methods are needed to increase teaching outcomes and student interest in the classroom. One method that has proven effective is Problem Based Learning (PBL). Focusing on the critical reasoning dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile is intended to improve the affective aspect in the learning process. The research process was carried out for 2 cycles which were divided into stages: 1) Planning; 2) Implementation; 3) Observation; 4) Reflection. The respondents of this study were 13 students consisting of 9 male students and 4 female students. The results showed that the critical reasoning aspect increased by 26.2%, from cycle 1 with 60% and cycle 2 to 86.2%. Meanwhile, the results of the cognitive aspect test in cycle 1 of the Jesus material proclaiming the Kingdom of God with an average score of 62 increased to 85 in cycle 2 with the material The Passion and death of Jesus. The results of the reflection recommend that there needs to be assistance in the affective aspect for students so that it can improve student learning outcomes. Thus, learning with the PBL approach by focusing on one dimension of critical reasoning can significantly improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The problem found in grade IV Phase B of SDN Nanga Bulik 4 is the low aspect of the dimension of mutual cooperation and the target learning achievement of students. This is influenced by the character of students who tend to be individualistic, lack of awareness, the influence of social media and technology. Another causative factor from the teacher is that they have not used student-centered learning methods and encourage active involvement of students in the learning process. To overcome this challenge, interesting learning methods are needed in order to improve the aspects of mutual cooperation and student learning achievement. One of the methods that has proven effective is the application of the video-assisted Problem Based Learning (PBL) method. The purpose of this research is to improve the character of the dimension of mutual cooperation and the target learning outcomes of students by applying the PBL model assisted by video media, the material Experiencing God's Commandments in Shared Life, grade IV Phase B of SDN Nanga Bulik 4. The focus of this research is on the dimension of mutual cooperation, from the profile of Pancasila students with the aim of improving the affective aspect in the learning process. The method used in this study is classroom action research in 2 cycles with 4 stages, namely planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection, with a total of 5 respondents. The results of the research cycle I to cycle II of the gotong royong aspect showed an average increase from 25% to 50%. Furthermore, the results of the research cycle I to cycle II of the cognitive aspect showed an increase from 67 to 85.6. The results of the reflection recommend that there needs to be assistance in the affective aspect so that it can improve the character of mutual cooperation of the Pancasila (P3) student profile and the cognitive aspect of students. The implications of these findings confirm that the application of the video-assisted PBL method can improve the character of mutual cooperation and student learning achievements.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the issue of low reading independence among fifth-grade students at SDN 06 Pemudang, which often resulted in an unconducive classroom environment and low learning participation. The teacher had not yet applied a student-centered learning method, leading to suboptimal learning outcomes. The aim of this study was to determine the improvement in students’ reading independence through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method for Phase C fifth-grade students. This research used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach carried out in two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection. The learning materials used were David the Leader and Solomon the Wise King. The research subjects were five fifth-grade students. Data collection techniques included observations to assess behavioral changes in the independence dimension and reading tests conducted at the end of each cycle. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods with percentage calculations. The results showed that the implementation of the PBL method successfully increased the character of independence as part of the Pancasila Student Profile (P3) dimension, from 70% in the first cycle to 92% in the second cycle. Student achievement in reading also improved significantly, with the “proficient” category increasing from 20% to 68%, and the “competent” category from 50% to 75%, while the “adequate” and “beginning to develop” categories dropped to 0%. The conclusion of this study is that learning using the Problem Based Learning method, when focused on a single Pancasila Student Profile dimension, can effectively enhance reading independence and learning achievement of fifth-grade Phase C students.

Abstract

This study is based on the issues faced by Catholic students in class XII MIPA 1 at SMAN 1 Kembayan, particularly their lack of motivation to learn and difficulty in collaborating with peers of different religious backgrounds. Students tend to prefer working with those who share the same religion, indicating a limited openness toward diversity. The conventional lecture-based teaching approach used by teachers has proven to be less effective in fostering values of tolerance and pluralism. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the improvement in students' learning outcomes within the dimension of global diversity, focusing on both the affective (behavioral) and cognitive (academic performance) aspects through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in the topic of Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation. This is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles involving 14 students. Each cycle consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The main focus is on the global diversity dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile to strengthen affective values. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative methods in the form of percentages. The results show a significant improvement in the affective aspect, with the average score increasing from 63.2 to 86.2 (an increase of 23%), and in the cognitive aspect, from an average of 68.21 to 84.57 (an increase of 16.36 points). In conclusion, the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model with a focus on a specific Pancasila Student Profile dimension effectively enhances students' learning outcomes and their attitudes toward diversity.

Abstract

The main issue in Catholic Religious Education (PAK) learning in Grade VI of SD Negeri 23 Tikalong, Landak Regency, West Kalimantan, is the lack of student participation and engagement. The teacher tends to apply a lecture-based approach that minimally involves students, resulting in low learning outcomes. This study aims to examine the improvement in students’ independence and achievement in PAK learning through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The study focuses on strengthening the independence dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile, with the goal of enhancing students’ affective development throughout the learning process. This research adopts a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach, carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation/evaluation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were two sixth-grade students. The observed learning outcomes covered cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Prior to the intervention, the percentage of students achieving the minimum mastery criteria (KKM = 75) was only 30%. The findings show a significant improvement in cognitive performance: the average score increased from 75 in Cycle 1 (with 50% in the “competent” category) to 80 in Cycle 2 (with 50% in the “proficient” and 50% in the “competent” categories). Student independence also increased from 77% in Cycle 1 to 100% in Cycle 2. Reflections during the research suggest the need for affective support to optimize students’ overall learning outcomes. In conclusion, the implementation of the PBL method proved effective in enhancing Catholic Religious Education learning outcomes and student independence in Grade VI.

Abstract

This study aims to address the low student participation in Catholic Religious Education (CRE) learning in class VIII of SMP St. Fransiskus II, East Jakarta. Preliminary observations revealed students’ lack of engagement in class discussions, presentations, and group activities, which is suspected to result from the continued use of conventional teaching methods. To overcome this, the study implements the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method, which emphasizes contextual problem-solving and student-centered learning. Using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) model, the study was conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Learning activities were designed based on the PBL approach. Data were collected through observation sheets focused on student participation indicators such as discussion activeness, presentation ability, group collaboration, and task completion. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, while qualitative data from teacher reflections and field notes were used to explore learning dynamics. The findings showed a notable improvement in student participation: from 65% in the first cycle to 85% in the second. All indicators improved, including more active involvement in discussions, better presentation quality, and timely task completion. Qualitative data supported these results, showing increased student motivation, enthusiasm, and collaboration. In conclusion, the implementation of the PBL method effectively enhanced student participation in CRE learning. It not only increased activeness but also supported the development of critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills. The study suggests PAK teachers consider adopting the PBL method to improve engagement and learning outcomes.
