Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology presents significant opportunities for transforming educational practices, such as personalization, rapid formative feedback, and administrative efficiency. However, AI adoption in schools also brings challenges related to values, particularly the potential erosion of students' positive character traits. These challenges include dependency on automated tools, tendencies toward plagiarism, weakening of moral obligations regarding academic honesty, and a decline in critical thinking skills concerning AI-generated content. This article aims to conduct a conceptual study and literature review of policies to: (a) map the relationship between AI adoption and student character issues; (b) identify the factors contributing to the character crisis in AI utilization; and (c) propose pedagogical intervention strategies, school policies, and research agendas to address these challenges. Key recommendations include integrating AI literacy and digital ethics into the curriculum, strengthening teacher capacity through practical training, designing policies that ensure human control over the learning process, and fostering collaboration between policymakers, educators, and technology developers. This collaborative effort will ensure that AI serves to enhance, rather than replace, the development of students' character.

Abstract

Low learning outcomes in Catholic Religious Education for grade VII students at SMP Negeri 7 Kuala Mandor B are caused by conventional teaching methods and monotonous learning media. This study aims to enhance student creativity through the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method by utilizing Canva as an interactive digital medium and developing problem-identification skills. The research involved 30 grade VII students in September 2025, using a two-cycle approach: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation sheets, written tests, and reflection sheets. Indicators of success included at least 80% student participation in discussions, an average learning outcome score of 75 or higher, and improved reflective thinking. The first cycle showed increased creativity, though reflection was limited. After refining the reflection guide and methods in the second cycle, there was a notable improvement in reflection quality, discussion participation exceeded 80%, and average cognitive scores surpassed 75. Canva effectively enhanced creativity and understanding of Catholic Religious Education materials. In conclusion, combining Canva digital media with PBL significantly improves learning outcomes and reflective thinking skills of grade VII students.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the role-play learning method in increasing student learning activeness and engagement in the subject of Catholic Religious Education. The background of this research is the consistently low level of student participation and engagement during classroom learning, particularly in expressing religious values, responding thoughtfully to questions, and actively participating in discussions. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles involving students of Grade VII at SMP Negeri 3 Tujuh Belas, Bengkayang. The research method employed consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection in each cycle, ensuring systematic implementation. Data were collected using observation sheets, detailed student activity assessments, and reflection notes from both students and teachers. The findings are expected to demonstrate that the role-play method encourages students to be more active, expressive, confident, and participatory in all learning activities. The implications of this research emphasize the critical importance of interactive, student-centered learning models in enhancing classroom engagement, strengthening the internalization of religious values, fostering critical thinking, and improving overall learning dynamics within the Catholic Religious Education curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of Catholic Religious Education and Character Education subjects through the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method for fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 071119 Hilisondrekha during the 2024/2025 academic year. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, with one meeting in each cycle. Each cycle consists of several stages: planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The first and second cycles cover the topics of "Men and Women Created in the Image of God," focusing on their different duties and roles, and the material "Concept of Men and Women Created in the Image of God" based on Genesis 1:26-27. The subjects of this study are seven fifth- grade Catholic religious education students at SD Negeri 071119 Hilisondrekha. Data collection techniques used were observation and tests. The results indicate that the implementation of the PBL method significantly improved learning outcomes from the first to the second cycle. In the first cycle, the affective aspect of students showed 57.14% in the capable category and 42.86% in the adequate category, increasing to 100% in the capable category in the second cycle. In the cognitive aspect, students scored 28.57% in the proficient category, 28.57% in the capable category, and 42.86% in the adequate category, which increased to 42.86% in the proficient category and 57.14% in the capable category in the second cycle. For the psychomotor aspect, students showed 71.43% in the capable category and 28.57% in the adequate category, which increased to 42.86% in the proficient category and 57.14% in the capable category in the second cycle. The conclusion of this study is that the implementation of the PBL method can enhance the learning outcomes of Catholic Religious Education and Character Education for fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 071119 Hilisondrekha.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe the enhancement of students’ patriotic awareness through the implementation of the Catholic Religious Education and Character Formation (PAKBP) subject at SMP 5 Jagoi Babang. The research is grounded in the urgent need to cultivate nationalistic values from an early age, particularly in border areas, to safeguard students from external influences that may erode their sense of pride in being Indonesian citizens. A qualitative approach employing Classroom Action Research (CAR) was used and conducted in several cycles, consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were students of grades VII, VIII, and IX at SMP 5 Jagoi Babang. Data were collected through classroom observations of students’ participation, interviews with PAKBP teachers and students, and document analysis of lesson plans (RPP) integrating patriotic values. The indicators of success were identified through positive behavioral and attitudinal changes reflecting love for the homeland, such as active participation in flag ceremonies, respect for national symbols, and environmental stewardship within the school. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ patriotic awareness following the structured and contextually relevant application of PAKBP learning. Teachers successfully linked core Catholic faith teachings with the sociocultural and civic context, emphasizing the importance of being responsible citizens in accordance with Christian values. This implementation proved effective in fostering a spirit of nationalism that became internalized in the students’ daily attitudes and practices, both within the school and in the broader community.

Abstract

Catholic Religious and Character Education (PAK-BP) aims to form students’ character based on Christian values; however, its implementation in schools often remains theoretical. This classroom action research (CAR) seeks to enhance students’ understanding of faith and the application of Christian moral values through the Project-Based Learning (PJBL) method. PJBL emphasizes contextual and experiential learning through projects relevant to students’ daily lives. The research subjects were Grade 10 students in Tanjung Palas Barat, with instruments including classroom observations, project rubrics, and written reflections. The findings show that the use of PJBL effectively improved students’ understanding of faith and their ability to apply Christian moral values in various social, environmental, and school projects. These projects included community service, environmental stewardship, and faith-based school activities that fostered collaboration, responsibility, and compassion. The outcomes also align with Church teachings as stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (nos. 1700–1789) and Amoris Laetitia, emphasizing moral formation and faith lived through love. In conclusion, the implementation of PJBL in Catholic Religious Education successfully internalized Christian values in a contextual and meaningful way. This method enables students not only to learn about faith but also to practice it through real-life actions rooted in Gospel values.

Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve students’ understanding and appreciation of the values of Jesus’ love through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model among Grade 10 students at SMA Negeri 1 Kahaungu Eti, East Sumba. The study was motivated by the reality that most Catholic students in this school had never received formal Catholic Religious Education in previous levels, resulting in a limited cognitive grasp of faith without a corresponding manifestation in loving actions. The research was conducted in two cycles following the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation, interviews, reflective questionnaires, and documentation. The findings reveal that the use of PBL enhanced students’ active participation in learning and fostered reflective attitudes toward their lived experiences. Students demonstrated a deeper understanding of Jesus’ love and applied it in social relationships at school, such as cooperation, mutual help, and respect for diversity. Therefore, the Problem-Based Learning model proved effective in developing the cognitive, affective, and practical dimensions of faith among Catholic students within a multireligious educational environment.

Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve students’ attitudes and learning achievement through the implementation of Karisma Kasih values within the Ora et Labora Learning Experience Design (DPB) at RK Bintang Timur Catholic Senior High School, Pematangsiantar. The Ora et Labora approach integrates spiritual and academic dimensions through reflective and collaborative learning experiences. The study employed the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were 32 tenth-grade students enrolled in Catholic Religious Education. Data were collected through observation, attitude questionnaires, and learning achievement tests, and were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. The results revealed significant improvements in faith-based attitudes, collaboration, and social responsibility, along with an increase in students’ average academic score from 73.5 in the first cycle to 84.2 in the second cycle. These findings indicate that integrating Karisma Kasih values through the Ora et Labora approach fosters meaningful learning, strengthens Christian character formation, and enhances students’ academic performance. This model is recommended as a contextual pedagogical strategy for promoting holistic Catholic education.

Abstract

Uneven student collaboration and low levels of critical thinking remain challenges for teachers in Grade IV, Phase B at SDN 14 Tontang, Sintang Regency. This study aims to enhance student collaboration through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. PBL is grounded in the use of real-world problems as learning anchors that foster positive interdependence, encouraging students to actively construct knowledge through discussion and collective role negotiation. This Classroom Action Research involved 20 students and was conducted over two cycles under the theme “Jesus as the Fulfillment of God’s Promise.” Cycle I focused on “God’s Promise of Salvation in the Scriptures,” while Cycle II emphasized “The Fulfillment of God’s Promise in the Person of Jesus Christ.” Each cycle followed four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation. Collaboration indicators included equitable active participation, reduced student dependency, and collective negotiation. Data were collected through observations of affective collaboration and written tests measuring cognitive learning outcomes. The findings revealed a significant improvement in collaboration, with active participation increasing from 64.4% in Cycle I to 86.9% in Cycle II. Cognitive learning outcomes also improved, rising from 74.7 to 85.75. These results demonstrate that the PBL model effectively enhances student collaboration by emphasizing affective aspects within the learning process.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze theologically the position of the Eucharist as the center of the liturgy as affirmed in Sacrosanctum Concilium article 10. Through a qualitative approach with the method of analyzing Church documents, this study explores the theological meaning of the Eucharist as the source (fons) and peak (culmen) of the Church's life. The results of the study show that the Eucharist has a central role in the liturgical life and faith of the faithful, because it contains all the works of Christ's salvation that continue to be presented in the life of the Church. The Eucharist is not just a ritual celebration, but a real encounter with Christ who sanctifies, unites, and sends the Church to mission in the world. Thus, all the Church's activities originate in and culminate in the Eucharist, making it the center and pinnacle of Christian life. This research confirms that a theological understanding of the Eucharist not only enriches the reflection of the faith, but also provides practical direction for the liturgy and pastoral of the Church. The Eucharist is the foundation that affirms the identity of the Church as a living community of Christ and sent to bring God's love in the midst of the world. From this perspective, the Eucharist is truly the essence of the life of the Church that animates the entire practice of faith of the faithful.
