Abstract

Community mentorship demonstrates benefits for adolescents of color at risk for increased life challenges.  This research investigated participant-reported gains from an online mentoring program for male secondary school students initiated by Black male public school staff members. Researchers hypothesized (1) group members’ perceived confidence regarding life skills would increase, (2) qualitative responses would demonstrate increased self-efficacy regarding topics discussed in session, and (3) participants would be able to identify solutions to challenges faced by boys and men of color. Qualitative data provided some support for these hypotheses. Students detailed learned lessons and identified solutions to problems faced by members of their communities.

Abstract

This study was purposely conducted on the assessment of the impact of quality assurance on teachers’ job performance in senior secondary schools in Gusau Education Zone, Zamfara State, Nigeria. To maintain accuracy of the results, the data analysis was conducted on Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) version ‘29. The study expressed the statistical value of (r=0.613, P<0.05), denoting that there exist a moderate significant relationship between quality assurance and teachers’ job performance among senior secondary schools in Gusau education zone, Zamfara State. Based on findings the study recommends that there is need for the government should encourage quality assurance in education by providing human and financial resources required for effective quality assurance exercise in public secondary schools. The government in collaboration with relevant stakeholders in educational sector should maintain the culture of trainings, workshops, and seminars for teachers and school administrators to participate in the process of actualising an efficient quality assurance practices. Furthermore, school principals and in-service teachers should support the government’s policies in promoting quality assurance initiatives while discharging the professional duties in their respective schools.

Abstract

Anxiety or anxiety of pregnant women who will face the process of labor is one of the problems of emotional disorders that are often encountered. Preliminary data from researchers showed that the baby birth rate reached 185 births in February-April 2024. There were 721 registered pregnant women doing Antenatal Care (ANC). Objective research to analyze the factors that influence anxiety facing labor in third trimester pregnant women at Elpi Al-Azis Labuhanbatu Hospital. The research design used Analytical Survey method with Cross Sectional approach. The population in this study were all pregnant women pregnant women at Elpi Al-Azis Labuhanbatu Hospital, namely 90 people who were all made into research samples with accidental sampling techniques. Data analysis using univariate analysis, bivariate with chi-square test and multivariate with logistic regression. The results of logistic regression research showed that there was an effect of maternal pregnancy examination history p = 0.004 and husband support p = 0.000. While the dominant factor influencing anxiety facing labor labor period in third trimester pregnant women, namely husband support p = 0.001 with Exp(B) 241.660. Conclusion the conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of maternal age, gravida, history of prenatal check-ups and husband support. husband. The dominant factor, namely husband's support, influences anxiety in facing labor in third trimester pregnant women at Elpi Al-Azis Labuhanbatu Hospital. It is recommended that Elpi Al-Azis Labuhanbatu Hospital should conduct counseling for pregnant women about the level of anxiety in pregnant women, the impact of anxiety, and how to prevent it. anxiety in pregnant women, the impact of anxiety, and how to prevent it. Abstract

The study sought to investigate gender and age differences of Junior High School (JHS) students in the Sissala East Municipality in terms of their attitudes towards punishment. The study used the descriptive survey design to carry out the investigation. Data for the study was collected by administering a closed-ended Likert scale questionnaire to respondents with a sample size of 291. Responses were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Findings of the study show no statistically significant differences in the attitude of JHS students in the Sissala East Municipality towards punishment on the bases of both sex and age. The study concluded that gender and age have no influence in the attitude of JHS students in the Municipality towards punishment.

Abstract

Pregnant women in the third trimester experience physical and psychological changes. This condition causes pregnant women to experience discomfort such as sleep disturbances. One way to overcome this condition is by doing prenatal yoga. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of prenatal yoga in improving the sleep quality of pregnant women in the third trimester. This research uses a Quasi Experimental method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample in this study consisted of 30 pregnant women in the third trimester using a purposive sampling technique. This research was carried out in March-May 2023. Data was collected by observation and analyzed using non-parametric tests. Univariate analysis results showed that the average sleep quality was before (mean = 9.20 and SD = 1.476) and after (mean = 5 and SD = 0.816). Bivariate analysis results showed that there was an effect of prenatal yoga on improving sleep quality in third trimester pregnant women with a Z value = 2.871 and p value = 0.004. So, it can be concluded that there is an influence of prenatal yoga on improving sleep quality in third trimester pregnant women.

Abstract

This research investigated drug abuse, peer group pressure and deviant behaviour of students in government tertiary institutions in Nigeria using Akwa Ibom State as a case study. Survey method were used to collect data from the population of ten government tertiary institutions in Akwa Ibom State which was estimated as 194,071 by NUC and NBTE as of 2018 and 2023 respectively. With a mean criterion of 3.0, the statistical tools of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) were used to analyse the study. Reviewing how drug abuse, peer group pressure, home and society base factors contribute to deviant behaviour of students in government tertiary institutions are: truancy, armed robbery, criminality, gangsterism, violet secret cult, divorce, parental arrogant, marital conflict and poor parent-child relationship. The study also shows that bad company of friends, wrong advice from friends and quest to belong to a particular class etc. are the extent to which peer group pressure contribute to drug abuse. The study concluded that students are the product of the home and society, the home family and society need to put in more effort in order to imbibe the right values and attitude to their child wards by been a good role model to them for the good of the home family and society as a whole. The study gave some relevant recommendations to parents, institutions, government and the entire society of Nigeria.

Abstract

Socio-cultural knowledge simple means the social norms, values and behaviors of a given society and how these norms and values are achieved through the language of the people.  On the other hand, model of knowledge delivery is a design that can perfectly deliver the social and cultural values to the young ones of for cultural existence and identification status.  This paper therefore looks into the models that can deliver Igbo language and culture in a socio-cultural situation.  It comes up with teaching methods like dramatization, traditional and community language learning methods in looking into the challenges of Igbo language and cultural learning.  The methods encourage active participation of the learners in a learner friendly situation hence interactive.  The model blends Igbo cultural concepts in the teaching and learning lessons where the learners would be fully involved through puzzle, games, story-telling and role play.  The main objectives of this study include; the exposure of the children and youths to Igbo culture, to encourage them to use the culture in the social context for easy identification as well as to maintain the culture of the Igbo society. The study adopts Lev Vygotsky’s Socio-cultural theory of 1978.  The study concludes by looking at the contributions of teaching and learning with good strategies in Igbo language for better understanding of the language and culture.

Abstract

Teaching arguably is a process of imparting knowledge to the leaner or actions aimed at guiding pupils through series of planned activities to enable them acquire intended skills, knowledge and ability or a way of transferring information to a group of learners. This paper x-rays the implications of the infiltration of general practitioners or nonprofessionals on the pedagogical advancement of Social Studies education as well as the methods through which the subject-learner friendly nature of the subject can be best achieved such as; Field-trips, community resources, demonstrations, resource persons, films, slide and film strip projections, etc. The following findings were made: inadequate knowledge of Social Studies content poor attitudinal disposition among the teachers and inadequate knowledge of Social Studies methods affect the classroom instructions. On the basis of the findings, it was recommended among others that employment of Social Studies teachers should be purely based on professional competencies and relevance, there should be regular training and retraining of Social Studies teachers and Social Studies teachers should be encouraged to developed positive attitude towards the teaching of the subject.

Abstract

This study explores the role of social media applications on the mental health of Generation Z in Ahmedabad and their relationship to age and perception of the impact of social media on mood. Through quantification, the data that presented weak relationships was analysed between different hypotheses as all the hypotheses accepted the null hypothesis that presumes the age factor is not a determining influence on the perception of impacts wherein social media influences mental health. Overall, the results point towards a generational experience for Gen Z and indicate that variables such as unique personality characteristics and specific content interaction maybe even more meaningful than age in the relationship to technology. Implications of such studies extend further and connect with mental health professionals, educators, policymakers, or parents who need to understand the imperative to develop certain interventions or education that focus on fundamental digital literacy and the psychological impact of social media use. The longitudinal, qualitative experiences and types of content that might occur about potential impacts on mental health and emerging social media should be targeted by future research. This can also foster the thinking of the new generation who lives in such an advanced digital world.
