Abstract

Student learning outcomes in mathematics learning are categorized as quite low, due to the lack of student participation in learning, so interesting learning methods are needed to improve student learning outcomes. The purpose of this study is to analyze students' mathematics learning outcomes after applying the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach and explain the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach which has an impact on improving students' mathematics learning outcomes. This research uses literature studies as a data collection method. The source of data in this study amounted to 10 scientific articles accessed from several sites about the effect of applying the PMR approach on students' mathematics learning outcomes. Based on a review of several literature and scientific articles that have been accessed, the author concludes that the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach has a positive impact on student learning outcomes. Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) can be a consideration for teachers to increase students' interest in learning so that their learning competence also increases, especially in the present.

Abstract

This research explored the correlates of psychological entitlement and spiritual entitlement on COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among students. A cross-sectional research design was adopted to purposely recruit a total population of 97 students studying Christian religious studies from Nasarawa State University The students were administered the Psychological Entitlement Scale, the Spiritual Entitlement Scale, and the Oxford COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy Scale. The result showed no significant relationship between psychological entitlement and COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy (r = -.154, p >0.05) and spiritual entitlement and COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy’ (r=.117 at p>0.05) However, the maladaptive subscale showed a significant negative relationship with COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy. The Psychological Entitlement and Spiritual Entitlement Scale jointly predicted COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy (R= .393; F= 8.564, P < .01) It is recommended that future vaccine campaigns engage with religious leaders to appeal to their beliefs and values and encourage them to accept the vaccine. This is the first study to link entitlement mentality with vaccination uptake in Nigeria.

Abstract

Academic engagement is essential if students must fulfil their academic goals and key to their success. The research employed a correlational research design to assess the extent to which parental involvement and academic resilience can predict the academic engagement of secondary school students in Anambra State. The study was guided by three research questions and tested three null hypotheses at a significance level of 0.05. 19708 senior secondary class two (SS2) students made up the study's population, from which 960 samples were selected using a multi-stage simple random approach. The study employed three instruments, namely the Parental Involvement Questionnaire (PIQ), Academic Resilience Questionnaire (ARQ), and Academic Engagement Questionnaire (AEQ), which were validated by three experts in the field of Educational Psychology. To evaluate the instruments' reliability, the Cronbach Alpha technique was employed, yielding alpha coefficients of 0.72, 0.71, and 0.70 for PIQ, ARQ, and AEQ, respectively. Simple regression analysis was used to test the null hypothesis and simple correlation analysis was used to answer research questions. The results showed that academic engagement is positively correlated with parental involvement and academic resilience. It also demonstrated that parental involvement and academic resilience worked together to enhance secondary school students' academic engagement in Anambra State. The study's conclusions led to the recommendation that parents get active in their children's education to both strengthen their resilience and raise their academic engagement.

Abstract

This paper sets out to look into some pragmatic and stylistic resources deployed in the Nigeria’s newly elected president’s, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s, inaugural speech. Drawing its theoretical underpinnings from pragma-stylistics propounded by Black (2006), it specifically seeks to examine such features as speech acts, tenses, deictic expressions, and tropes encoded in the speech. The findings arrived at reveal that the aforementioned politician employs four out of the five illocutionary acts (representatives, expressives, commissives, and directives) in varying proportions. They also disclose that the simple present, present perfect, simple past, simple future and imperative are the tenses deliberately deployed in the discourse. It is inferred from the foregoing that in his choice of discursive patterns, Tinubu plainly focuses on the socio-political, socio-economic and geo-political context to manipulate linguistic resources for ideological purposes in order to (i) restore Nigerians’ trust and faith in his forthcoming governance, (ii) persuade the audience, and overall (iii) manage his message for effective communication.

Abstract

Integrated schools with resource classes and special schools provide education for children with disability in Nepal. Government funds and the partial support of national and internal donor partners run these schools. This study intends to seek how children with disability normalize in regular classes after the additional support service in resource class to become a case of inclusion in the education system of Nepal. The study explored the adjustment challenges and identified coping strategies in a regular course. The four students with disability from integrated schools representing children with visual impairment and children with deaf were purposively selected and interviewed through semi-structured interview guidelines in a natural setting. The interview responses were transcribed verbatim and analyzed by extracting themes within a theoretical framework based on post-structuralism and discourse analysis. More than five themes were identified from the discussion of students' reports regarding adjustment challenges in the students' narratives. The study explored significant challenges such as the lack of disabled-friendly physical facilities, domination of traditional methods, presence of an untrained teacher, lack of expanded core curriculum, lack of peer support and poor psychological attachment. The exploration of challenges assists policymakers and well educators set up strategies for effective inclusion in school education and the community. The extreme mitigation of challenges promotes an inclusive atmosphere in regular classrooms.

Abstract

Healthcare workers experience multifaceted mental health issues due to the nature of their work. Some studies have investigated predictors of mental health with varied results. Therefore, this study examined moderating roles of work-family conflict self-efficacy (WFCSC) on the relationship between work-family conflict and mental health among healthcare workers in Akure metropolis, Ondo State, Nigeria. The study adopted cross-sectional survey design while purposive sampling technique was used to select three state hospitals in Akure metropolis. Data were collected from 201 healthcare workers using validated scales and analyzed using zero-order correlation and three-step hierarchical multiple regression to test three hypotheses. All hypotheses were accepted at p < .05 level of significance. The result indicated that work-family conflict significantly predicted mental health among study participants.  Also, the result revealed that WFCSE significantly predicted mental health among healthcare workers. Finally, the result showed that WFCSE significantly moderated the relationship between work-family conflict and mental health among healthcare workers). The study concluded that WFCSE is a strong predictor and moderator of mental health among study participants. Therefore, it is recommended that management should provide mental health support services to their workers to reduce the negative influence of work-family conflict self-efficacy on mental health outcomes.
