Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the cultural values contained in the Kon Anin legend and to explain the role of these values in the social life of the Tuapakas community, Kualin Sub-District, South Central Timor Regency. The Kon Anin legend is an oral tradition that is still preserved and is believed to contain cultural teachings and local wisdom that influence the community's social life. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with traditional elders and community leaders, participant observation, and documentation. The results show that the Kon Anin legend contains four important cultural values: (1) belief in ancestral traditions, (2) togetherness, (3) respect for traditional leaders, and (4) local wisdom. These values are practiced in the Kon Anin ritual as a response to strong wind disturbances believed to be an imbalance of nature. This ritual functions as a medium for cultural preservation, identity reinforcement, education for the younger generation, and maintaining the balance of human-nature relationships.

Abstract

Listening comprehension, particularly in grasping the main idea of dialogues, is a crucial competency in English language learning for communication. However, most previous research has focused on main idea identification in written texts or general listening problems, leaving a gap in specifically examining the ability of vocational high school (SMK) students in the context of spoken dialogue. This study aims to (1) describe the ability level of SMK Noebaun students in identifying the main idea in English dialogues, and (2) analyze the difficulties they encounter. This research employs a quantitative descriptive method. The population was all 11th-grade students (100 students), with a random sample of 25 students. The instrument was a 25-item multiple-choice test adapted from authentic dialogues. Results show that overall student ability was in the Fair category (68% of students). Item analysis identified 8 difficult items (>47% error rate), with the main difficulties lying in understanding implicit meaning (61.90%) and vocabulary limitations. Although students’ average ability is adequate, significant challenges exist in understanding implied meaning and mastering contextual vocabulary in dialogues. The pedagogical implication is the need for teaching strategies that emphasize pragmatic inference and enrichment of context-specific conversational vocabulary.

Abstract

Law Number 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government enforces a regional autonomy policy that provides great freedom for local governments to manage and take care of government affairs and the interests of the people in their territory, as far as it remains within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Meanwhile, Law Number 6 of 2014 outlines the tasks of the village government, which includes government management, development implementation, community assistance, and increasing population capacity. Role, according to T. Coser and Anthony Rosenberg in "An Introduction to International Politics," is a set of structural demands (norms, expectations, restrictions, and obligations) that give rise to various impulses to unite, direct, and strengthen functions in an organization (T. Coser and Rosenberg, 1976:232-255). By considering the government's tasks and the theoretical framework, it is clear that the function of the village government is to carry out government administration, carry out development programs, nurture residents, and empower the community. Based on a qualitative study with the triangulation method, the findings presented show that the role of the village government in mobilizing public participation, referring to its responsibility in the implementation of government, development, coaching, and empowerment, seems to be not optimal. On the side of government implementation, the government's contribution is less visible; while in development, even though there is government participation, the output is not in line with the planning that has been prepared (musrenbang). Furthermore, in the field of community development, the role of the government also feels limited, as evidenced by the few programs that are rolled out, as well as in community empowerment, where the government's involvement in encouraging citizen participation is classified as low, as reflected by the number of limited government programs.

Abstract

Entering the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, the challenges of modernization demand the readiness of human resources, where the millennial generation plays a crucial role as the pillar of future leadership. However, youth involvement in local-level development is often not optimal due to a less participatory approach. The research problem in this study is how the village government roles in increasing the participation of the millennial generation. Meanwhile, this study aims to determine and analyze the role of the Mehanggin Village Government, Muaradua District, South OKU Regency, in increasing the participation of the millennial generation. This study employed a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with the village head, village officials, and local youth leaders, supported by direct observation and documentation studies. Data analysis was carried out through several stages, including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, to objectively depict the real conditions in the field. The results showed that the role of the Village Government in increasing the participation of the millennial generation in Mehanggin Village has begun to take place, but it is not yet fully effective. The participatory approach implemented was able to increase the confidence and creativity of the youth, although the active participation rate of millennials in the village remains fluctuated. The main obstacles found include a lack of intensive communication between the village government and the youth, the limited availability of innovative empowerment forums or programs, and the minimal allocation of a specific budget for youth capacity development. Thus, an increase in professionalism is required to create a more conducive and responsive environment toward the potential of village millennials.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of micro-influencer endorsement strategies in increasing consumer purchase interest on the @Styleroomm.co Instagram account in Makassar. The primary focus of this study is to evaluate how visual elements, the use of local dialects, and information transparency through video influence digital audience behavior. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including open-ended questionnaires distributed to 12 respondents and in-depth interviews with key informants. Scientific findings indicate that the influencer's self-presentation through makeup and content aesthetics acts as the primary stimulus in triggering initial audience attention (stop scrolling). Furthermore, the use of the Makassar local dialect (particles 'ji', 'mi', and 'ki') serves as an instrument of honesty validation that strengthens message credibility and emotional proximity. The findings also confirm that visual transparency in video content is more effective in reducing consumer skepticism compared to static catalog photos. The conclusion of this research is that the synergy between local cultural identity and visual production quality is the key factor in converting audience attention into actual purchase intent.

Abstract

This study seeks to examine the role of Instagram in shaping a positive image of the Open University (UT) through the UT SALUT AAF WAY TENONG. The study employed a qualitative approach using data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews with six informants, observation of Instagram content, documentation, and literature review. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions based on the Miles and Huberman model. The research results revealed three main themes. First, Instagram content proved effective in capturing audience attention through relevant visual formats, concise information presentation, a communicative writing style, and responsive interaction between administrators and followers. Second, Instagram serves as a space for symbolic representation that builds UT’s image as a modern, flexible, and inclusive institution, thereby countering negative perceptions of the distance learning system. Third, the management still faces challenges such as limited human resources, inconsistent posting, and a lack of content planning; however, there are strategic opportunities through student storytelling, content segmentation, and collaboration with alumni. This study confirms that Instagram is a strategic tool that not only disseminates information but also builds and maintains a positive image of the university in the digital age.
