Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze and compare the dynamics of Islamic economic institutions in Brunei Darussalam and India, as well as to examine their implications for strengthening Islamic economic institutions in Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach: The study employs a comparative qualitative approach using literature analysis from international journals, regulatory documents, and actual institutional practices in both countries. Research Findings: The findings reveal that Brunei, as a Muslim-majority country, has developed Islamic economic institutions in a structured manner through strong state support, integration of maqasid sharia into public policy, and synergy between regulators and Islamic financial institutions. In contrast, India, as a non-Muslim-majority country, demonstrates a more community-based institutional dynamic that emphasizes social inclusion through Islamic microfinance institutions and informal cooperatives. The study suggests that Indonesia can adopt a hybrid institutional model that combines Brunei’s regulatory strength with India’s community participation to build a more adaptive and sustainable Islamic economic ecosystem.  Contribution/Originality/Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in its cross-country comparative analysis that connects institutional characteristics with demographic and political contexts. It offers an alternative institutional model for Indonesia that aligns with the maqasid sharia principles and responds to local socio-economic challenges.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate how well Paylater service methods align with Islamic finance's sharia rules. The study focuses on how contracts are structured, how interest or other fees are applied, late fees, and how these factors affect the values of benefit and justice in digital credit transactions that are emerging in the fintech era. Design/methodology/approach: This study employs a normative-descriptive research design and a qualitative methodology. Literature reviews on Islamic financial theories, Paylater procedures, fintech laws, and pertinent Sharia fatwas are the techniques employed. This method was selected in order to evaluate how well digital credit operations align with relevant Sharia rules and concepts.  Research Findings: The study's findings demonstrate that the majority of Paylater services continue to use traditional credit methods, which may involve aspects of injustice, gharar, and usury. Furthermore, the minimal restrictions and simplicity of usage of Paylater may promote excessive debt utilization and consumptive behavior, which would go against the Islamic banking principals of moderation and balance. Contribution/Originality/Novelty: This study's significance and originality are found in its thorough examination of Paylater as a contemporary digital credit phenomenon from the standpoint of Islamic finance. In addition to evaluating the contract's legal features, this study emphasizes its ethical implications and how it affects customer behavior. It also provides suggestions for creating a Sharia-based Paylater model that upholds Sharia values by encouraging justice, openness, and consumer protection.

Abstract

Purpose: To analyze the integration of Islamic financial technology (fintech) with the principles of Maqashid al-Shariah as a normative foundation for developing financial products that are both Sharia-compliant and socially beneficial amid the rapid growth of digital financial services in Indonesia. Design/Methodology/Approach: This study employs a conceptual and analytical approach by examining the development of Islamic fintech in Indonesia and evaluating its alignment with Maqashid al-Shariah principles, particularly in relation to Sharia compliance, contract transparency, profit-sharing mechanisms, and financial literacy. Research Findings: The study finds that although Islamic fintech offers significant opportunities to enhance financial inclusion, its implementation faces several challenges, including ensuring compliance with Islamic law, maintaining transparency in contracts, establishing fair profit-sharing mechanisms, and improving public financial literacy. The findings further indicate that strengthening regulatory frameworks, enhancing Sharia education, and promoting collaboration among regulators, industry practitioners, and Sharia scholars are essential to developing a sustainable and Sharia-compliant fintech ecosystem. Contribution/Originality/Novelty: This study contributes by providing a Maqashid al-Shariah-based perspective for evaluating and developing Islamic fintech. It highlights how the objectives of Sharia—namely the protection of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and wealth—can serve as a comprehensive framework for designing innovative digital financial services that balance technological advancement with ethical and social responsibility.

Abstract

Purpose: This article aims to examine the role of Digital banking in improving the accuracy and effectiveness of bank fund allocation and identify factors influencing the optimization of its utilization, both in conventional and Islamic banks. Design/methodology/approach: The research method used is a qualitative approach with a literature review of various literature sources including national scientific journals, reference books, and relevant publications published in the 2020–2025 period.    Research Findings: The results of the study indicate that Digital banking plays a significant role in improving the accuracy of fund allocation through technology-based data analysis, efficiency of the fund distribution process, increased transparency and supervision, more accurate liquidity management, and data-driven decision-making. Contribution/Originality/Novelty: In the context of Islamic banking, Digital banking also supports compliance with Islamic principles through transparent contract recording, real-time financing monitoring, and strengthening the Islamic supervisory function. However, the implementation of Digital banking still faces challenges in terms of data quality, system security, human resource readiness, and technological infrastructure gaps. Therefore, optimizing Digital banking requires policy support, increased human resource capacity, and strengthened governance and oversight to sustainably improve the accuracy and effectiveness of fund allocation.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to determine whether perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived security influence the transaction interest in using the BYOND by BSI application among students receiving the KIP Kuliah Scholarship at class of 2022. Design/methodology/approach:  This study used a quantitative approach with an associative research type. The population consisted of 149 students receiving the KIP Kuliah Scholarship class of 2022, while the sample involved 108 respondents selected through a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive analysis, instrument testing, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression analysis, and hypothesis testing with IBM SPSS version 26. Research Findings: The results showed that all research instruments were valid and reliable. The classical assumption tests indicated that the data were normally distributed and free from heteroscedasticity and multicollinearity problems. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use had a positive and significant effect on transaction interest in using BYOND by BSI. Meanwhile, perceived security did not significantly affect transaction interest, with a significance value of 0.828 > 0.05. This indicates that security is not the main factor influencing transaction interest in using BYOND by BSI. The Adjusted R Square value was 0.347, meaning that perceived usefulness, ease of use, and security explained 34.7% of the variation in transaction interest. Contribution/Originality/Novelty: This study contributes to the development of digital Islamic banking literature, particularly regarding factors influencing students’ interest in using the BYOND by BSI application. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on KIP Kuliah Scholarship recipients at class of 2022 as research subjects in the context of Islamic digital banking adoption.
