Abstract

Islamic Religious Education in the 21st century faces the challenge of not only transmitting normative knowledge, but also developing critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication (4C) skills in a meaningful way. This article is part of the discourse on religious education and pedagogy in the 21st century, with the aim of conducting an in-depth study of teachers' concepts related to the 4C-based PAI learning model at SMPIT Al Haraki Depok. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with the principal, curriculum assistant, and PAI teachers, as well as analysis of learning documentation. This study does not formulate quantitative hypotheses but focuses on the meaning and interpretation of teachers' concepts. The results show that PAI learning has integrated the 4C elements through strategies such as question prompts, information exploration, case studies, discussions, projects, presentations, cross-subject learning, and Student Led Conferences. These practices reflect the social constructivism approach and information theory, in which students play an active role as meaning builders and learning communicators. This article contributes to the development of religious education studies by showing that PAI can be a space for dialogical, collaborative, and reflective learning. These findings emphasize the importance of systematic teacher-based PAI learning design to meet the demands of 21st-century education

Abstract

This study examines the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers in improving the religious character of students at SMK Karsa Mulya Palangka Raya. Religious character involves an attitude of obedience to religious teachings, and good behavior such as good manners and obedience to worship. This research is important because the low religious character of students is influenced by foreign cultures and moral degradation, so teachers as the main figures of education need to shape students into intelligent and noble individuals. Using a descriptive qualitative method with case studies, data was collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis to identify the role of teachers as well as supporting and inhibiting factors. The main findings show that in improving religious character, PAI teachers perform the role of teachers as educators, guides, advisors, and role models, where this example is what becomes a habit for students such as repentance prayers, dhuha, congregational dzuhur, routine Friday recitation, and others. Supporting factors include cooperation between teachers, family and community support, and adequate school facilities. However, inhibiting factors such as the influence of negative associations, lack of student awareness, and diversity of student backgrounds hinder optimal achievement.

Abstract

This research is entitled “The Implementation of the Independent Curriculum in Developing Students’ Critical Thinking Skills in Islamic Religious Education (A Case Study at SMK Bani Salimah and SMKN 1 Waringinkurung, Serang Regency)”. This study aims to examine the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and how its application can enhance students’ critical thinking skills. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The validity of the data was ensured through credibility and confirmability. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in both schools has been strongly supported by the institutions, although limitations remain in teacher training and the use of technology. Teachers attempted to overcome these challenges by engaging in self-learning through the “Merdeka Mengajar” platform and independently preparing teaching modules, methods, and learning media. The IRE learning process was oriented towards the development of critical thinking skills using six indicators, although the levels of achievement varied among students. Factors influencing the development of critical thinking include learning motivation, teacher support through differentiated learning, and students’ internal conditions. Meanwhile, obstacles in implementing the Independent Curriculum include limited teacher understanding, low student motivation, insufficient learning facilities, and reluctance of some teachers to adapt to technology. These challenges hinder the optimal development of critical thinking skills, thus requiring improvements in teacher training, strengthening school facilities, and applying more innovative and adaptive learning strategies.

Abstract

Direct adoption is the process of adopting a child without the intermediary of a child-rearing institution, carried out by a family or other party. Direct adoption requires certain requirements and steps to obtain permission, as outlined in Minister of Social Affairs Regulation Number 110/HUK/2009 concerning Child Adoption Requirements. The party responsible for granting direct adoption permits in East Java is the East Java Social Services Agency. This study aims to analyze and describe the role of the East Java Social Services Agency in granting direct adoption permits as seen in the Minister of Social Affairs Regulation Number 110/HUK/2009 concerning Child Adoption Requirements. This research method uses descriptive qualitative with a purposive sampling technique for determining informants. The results of the study indicate that two factors, namely the role of the East Java Provincial Social Service as the Regional Child Adoption Permit Consideration Team and as the party acting as the issuer of the child adoption permit, have in principle been implemented effectively and in accordance with applicable regulatory provisions. However, in the aspect of eligibility assessment, especially in fulfilling administrative requirements, more comprehensive optimization is still needed. This is due to the limited detailed information received by applicants regarding the procedures and documents that must be fulfilled, resulting in various difficulties in preparing child adoption documents directly. This condition is feared to impact the results of the eligibility assessment of prospective adoptive parents, considering that incomplete administration often becomes an obstacle in the verification and assessment process which ultimately can influence the final decision regarding granting a child adoption permit.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate and describe the Prodamas Plus program in improving community income in Burengan Village, Kediri City. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research assesses the program based on six evaluation criteria: effectiveness, efficiency, adequacy, equity, responsiveness, and accuracy. The findings indicate that Prodamas Plus is effective in fulfilling basic community needs, particularly in infrastructure development and public facilities, yet it has not optimally improved community income due to limited community capacity and the lack of sustainable post-training assistance. In terms of efficiency, program governance is well-structured, but implementation in the field is constrained by tight execution timelines and high administrative burdens. Program adequacy is strong at the basic level but remains insufficient in economic empowerment efforts. Equity in access to development has been achieved, although equality in economic outcomes is still uneven among residents. The program demonstrates high responsiveness through various public participation channels and service mechanisms that accommodate community aspirations. Accuracy is reflected in the program’s alignment with infrastructure needs but is not yet fully evident in generating significant income improvements. Overall, Prodamas Plus has successfully enhanced environmental quality and public services; however, stronger economic empowerment strategies are required to ensure more optimal and sustainable contributions to the income of Burengan residents.

Abstract

This study explores the ontological and metaphysical thought of Imam al-Juwayni, a prominent scholar in the Islamic kalām tradition, focusing on the concepts of existence, God, and created beings. The background of the study lies in the enduring relevance of classical Islamic philosophical and theological discussions on the nature of reality, divine attributes, and the relationship between God and creatures. The purpose of the study is to examine how al-Juwayni conceptualizes the distinction between the absolute existence of God and the contingent existence of creatures, as well as the implications of his thought for ethics, law, and human agency. The research employs a qualitative, descriptive method based on library research, analyzing primary texts of al-Juwayni and relevant secondary literature to uncover his philosophical arguments and theological reasoning. The findings reveal that al-Juwayni emphasizes the independence and necessity of God’s existence, while all created beings are contingent and dependent on divine will, yet retain limited agency. He integrates reason and revelation to understand divine attributes, creating a framework where metaphysics, ethics, and law are interconnected. The study concludes that al-Juwayni’s ontological perspective not only enriches classical Islamic thought but also provides a valuable conceptual foundation for contemporary discussions on theology, philosophy, and moral responsibility. His insights remain relevant for addressing modern social, ethical, and philosophical issues within an Islamic framework.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Implementation of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) as an Instrument for Village Community Empowerment: An Empirical Study in Balongpanggang Village, Balongpanggang District, Gresik Regency. The southern area of Gresik still experiences development disparities that have resulted in suboptimal BUMDes management. However, BUMDes Jaya Abadi in Balongpanggang Village has shown relatively positive development and has received several awards, making it an interesting case for further analysis. This research employs a qualitative approach using data collection techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the implementation of BUMDes Jaya Abadi has been carried out through the management of various village business units and the application of four development aspects as the basis of its activities. Nevertheless, the role of BUMDes in encouraging active community participation and strengthening local capacity has not been fully optimized. The main challenges include limited human resources, low public understanding of BUMDes programs, and the underutilization of digital technology in business governance. Therefore, strengthening communication, improving managerial capacity, implementing digital systems, and expanding community participation are necessary to achieve more effective and sustainable BUMDes implementation.

Abstract

This study examines online gambling as an emerging non-traditional security threat in Indonesia by integrating criminological perspectives, Strain Theory and General Strain Theory, with a state-centric approach in International Relations. Through interviews, field observations, and policy document analysis, the research uncovers how economic pressure, emotional distress, and social normalization drive individuals toward digital gambling addiction. The findings reveal that personal vulnerabilities escalate into broader societal risks, challenging the capacity of state institutions to respond effectively. By mapping these micro-to-macro dynamics, the study exposes the urgent need for a more holistic national strategy, one that moves beyond enforcement and addresses the psychosocial roots of digital gambling.

Abstract

Recitation of the Qur'an in Islamic boarding school education isn’t only understood as a ritual worship, but also as a religious practice that plays a big role in regulating emotions and fostering inner calm. In the daily life of students at Darul Muttaqin Islamic Boarding School, various pressures such as academic demands, memorization targets, homesickness, and social adjustment often generate psychological tension. This study explores how Qur’anic recitation functions as a form of psycho-spiritual therapy that supports students’ mental well-being. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach with a field-based design. Information was obtained through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation with fifteen students who regularly perform tilawah (Islamic recitation) and two female teachers. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings prove that tilawah assists students in managing their emotions, reducing anxiety, and cultivating spiritual tranquility. Students who consistently recite the Qur’an appear better equipped to cope with academic pressure and demonstrate patience, gratitude, and sincerity in their daily activities. These values serve as internal coping mechanisms that strengthen their psychological resilience. Overall, the study affirms that Qur’anic recitation can serve as an effective psycho-spiritual therapeutic model for maintaining students’ mental health in the pesantren environment.
