Abstract

There are up to 50-centimeter-high puddles on the road due to the Jetis Road Drainage Channel in Mojokerto Regency's incapacity to handle the flood discharge from the drainage catchment area. The Jetis Road drainage channel's size and channel bed slope will be affected by the meeting point of the 1000 m long secondary channel and the Jetis Road drainage outlet. The objective of this research is to evaluate the efficiency of drainage channel design considering the implications of the drainage existing condition due to inconsistent dimension and sedimentation. The drainage channel is designed to handle a total discharge of 4.6 m3/sec during 10 years return of period. Under these circumstances, a trapezoidal channel with a width of one meter and a depth of two meters is needed. The Jetis Road drainage channel's enlarged dimensions result in a flood water level of 1.8. The Jetis Road drainage channel has a freeboard of 0.2 meters since the flood water level that occurs in the channel with its new dimensions is 1.8 meters. The flow rate in the intended channel serves as the control in this study to determine channel size. The channel's maximum flow velocity of 1.44 m/sec satisfies the 1.5 m/sec maximum flow velocity allowed in concrete channels.

Abstract

A library and fine arts educational facility is an educational place to gain knowledge and introduce fine arts. Through observations, the researcher identified issues in Surabaya's libraries, such as the monotonous building structures and unattractive spatial atmosphere. Meanwhile, fine arts facilities lack resources for making art, so the integration of a library and fine arts education facility is necessary in one location. In this building, visitors can not only gain knowledge about art but also increase their creativity by learning while making works of art with artists. It serves as a solution to increase the reading interest index and introduce works of art more widely. The application of a contemporary architectural theme is based on the expressive characteristics of educational and artistic buildings, following current contemporary characteristics. Qualitative research with a descriptive approach depicts the experiences in the field, which were then analyzed using parameters of the function and feasibility of educational and artistic buildings. The design of the library and fine arts education facility applies the contemporary architecture theme to the macro concept of recreational education to provide a special attraction to visitors. The shape design uses an attractive micro concept by giving the building an identity through variations of curved lines, geometric shapes inspired by a book, and bright color combinations derived from mosaic paintings.

Abstract

Disasters are situations due to natural factors (such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, flash floods, and droughts), non-natural factors, or human factors that disrupt human activities. They cause loss of life, loss of property, environmental destruction, and psychological distress. One significant natural disaster in Indonesia was the hot mudflow eruption in Porong, Sidoarjo, East Java, on May 29, 2006. The Lapindo Mudflow is an ongoing event with no signs of stopping. The choice to construct a Lapindo Mudflow Museum is due to the absence of such a museum, despite the significant impact of this disaster in Indonesia. The plan and design of the Lapindo Mudflow Museum in Sidoarjo applies the theme of metaphorical architecture because it is deemed appropriate for a museum building. Metaphorical architecture involves the creativity of architects in connecting objects, metaphors, or expressions to create forms that differ from their original shapes while retaining similarity. Buildings with metaphorical architectural designs have unique features that relate to the message intended by their creators. The Lapindo Mudflow will be built in Sidoarjo, specifically in Gelam Urban Village, Candi District. This museum will serve not only as a museum but also as a symbolic monument to the 2006 Lapindo Mudflow disaster and to commemorate its victims.

Abstract

Plants are living things that are nurtured and cared for in a medium. Plants have several benefits, the main one being providing oxygen through photosynthesis. Ornamental plants in this room are used to beautify the house's interior. In addition, seeing some of the benefits of plants that provide oxygen is undoubtedly very influential for health and comfort in the room. However, plants also need sunlight, the most important aspect of their life. Another problem with plants is that they need clear air to launch the photosynthesis process. Therefore, the researcher has a solution: designing a multifunctional ornamental plant rack for the room by adding a diffuser as an air purifier on the plant rack and a sunlight replacement technology that can be used automatically. This study uses mixed methods, a research method combining two methods, namely qualitative methods and quantitative methods, which are used simultaneously. Case studies were conducted in 2 places in the Gresik area and interviewed ornamental plant sellers using needs analysis. This research produces a multifunctional ornamental plant shelf with a minimalist design concept for a room. The minimalist concept uses simple and close elements in technological progress

Abstract

ver time, construction projects in Indonesia as a developing country have become increasingly complex and require large costs and require more attention to proper time and resource management. The Joint Lecture Building, Campus C, Airlangga University, Surabaya, with a project cost of IDR 8,300,000.00/m2 is considered to exceed the standard cost of similar buildings in Surabaya, which is IDR 6,250,000.00/m², so it requires a cost efficiency evaluation. This study uses a value engineering method by analyzing work items to find alternative materials that are more cost-effective without reducing function and quality. This study was conducted with five stages of value engineering: information, creativity, analysis, development, and recommendations. The results show significant cost savings on several work items such as beam work, floor slabs and columns, achieving a potential reduction of up to 71% of the total existing budget.

Abstract

Muslimah or women who believe in Islam have various kinds of etiquette restrictions when leaving the house. One of them is etiquette in doing sports. Sports that require active movement, have made it difficult for Muslimah to find public facilities that can accommodate sports without violating Islamic law. According to data, Tambaksari District is a geographically strategic place with the largest Muslim population in Surabaya. This potential supports the existence of the Muslimah Sports Centre in Tambaksari. So that Muslim women will get a sports place that is strategic, comfortable, and safe without male intervention. With mixed research between quantitative and qualitative method, this quantitative research assumes an objective reality and a view of the researcher as independent of the subject of inquiry, while qualitative research involved the study of the use and collection of various empirical materials, which eventually presented the perspective of Muslimah’s experiences. The Muslimah Sports Centre has a big goal of creating a better cultural system for religious behavior by understanding things that have been explained in the Al-Quran and As-Sunnah. Thus, the building will serve not only as a means of sports activities but also as a place for providing Islamic values to the users of the building. For this reason, the design of the Muslimah Sports Centre applies an Islamic architectural approach. Because the aim of this study is to provide an understanding that architecture not only serves as a basic reference for developing buildings and their architectural elements, but it can also provide an understanding and learning about how to behave in accordance with the Qur'an and Sunnah inside the building so that we will not violate Islamic law.

Abstract

The expansive soils have strong shrinkage capabilities, which negatively damage soil stability. Adding chemicals and gypsum materials is one approach to improving soil qualities. To measure soil parameters before and after mixing with gypsum material, soil analysis requires sieve analysis, Atterberg limits, standard proctors, and direct shear. The tests were carried out on 3 samples of gypsum mix, i.e. (5%, 10%, 15%) and aging of each soil for 10 days, 15 days, 20 days, 25 days. Initial soil characteristics: γd = 1340 g / cm3, shear strength Ø = 76.4 ° dan C = 0.071 kg / cm2, yield point = 69.07% and plasticity index = 45.02%. After adding 15% gypsum with a safe time of 25 days, γd = 1418 g / cm3, high shear Ø = 84.9 ° dan C = 0.441 kg / cm2, yield point = 47.94% and yield index = 11.94%. The stabilized density of the expanding soil influences the shear strength, the 5.6 ° increase in density takes advantage of the strong shear increase of Ø = 11.11% and C = 521.2%.

Abstract

Madiun Regency is an area of martial arts preservation of Pencak silat. Thus, Madiun Regency has several pencak silat hermitages as a forum for learning pencak silat martial arts but currently does not have a representative pencak silat facility as a joint competition and training event. Therefore, designing a Pencak Silat Martial Arts Competition and Training Building with a Neo Vernacular Architecture theme approach derived from local culture is necessary. This is in connection with the aim of the Madiun Regency government to have a plan to provide a Joint Silat College Building to unite martial arts colleges and improve the economy in Madiun Regency. The design research method uses qualitative methods in case studies and descriptive, data collection techniques in the form of observation, literature studies, case studies, documentation, questionnaires, and interviews. The Neo Vernacular Architecture Theme approach applied to the shape aspect is expected to be able to combine local culture with the current architectural style. The design of the Pencak Silat Martial Arts Competition and Training Building with the Neo Vernacular architectural theme uses the macro concept of cultural stylization and the micro concept of cultural representation which is expected to represent the formation of the Joglo House and the characteristics of the Pencak silat building. the facade design represents pencak silat techniques/attitudes which apply the form of Sembong cloth attributes as an ornament and uses the colors yellow, green, and brown.

Abstract

Flooding is a natural hazard that occurs frequently in many locations in Indonesia. Flood catastrophe mitigation must be completed as a preventative measure before the disaster occurs. Flood disaster knowledge is an important learning activity for youngsters. Children can learn about flood catastrophe mitigation activities by using digital video as a learning medium. The lack of flood mitigation learning for children aged 5–6 years, as well as the children's lack of understanding of catastrophe mitigation, motivated this study. This study's data was gathered through interviews and questionnaires. The subjects of this study were five Kindergarten B students from Surabaya. The participants in this study were five Kindergarten B students from Surabaya. The study's findings indicate that digital media in the form of video can be used as a learning tool to teach early childhood flood catastrophe management. By watching digital educational video media, children are becoming more familiar with flood disasters and associated risk factors. The construction of a flood disaster management program in the form of digital instructional video media has been shown to boost early childhood knowledge and attitudes toward disaster response.
