Abstract

Research on love is the answer key for those who want to feel the power of the wave of love. Love is a feeling that causes pleasure to or is attached to an object, love will be emotional when it appears in the mind and can evoke all primary emotions, according to the emotions on which the object stands. However, in daily practice, many people misinterpret love and misrepresent it. This paper aims to straighten out how we should love something. The data of this research is sourced from the analysis of Surah Al-Baqarah/2:165. Based on the research results of the letter Al-Baqarah/2:165. The method used is a qualitative research method, namely analyzing the meaning and concept of love (mahabbah) from the perspective of the Qur'an. The approach used is the thematic interpretation approach (tafsir maudhu'i). Researchers found two ways to love. First, don't love something excessively and second, love it in a good way. In line with that, this paper suggests the need for the role of all elements of society, parents, teachers, lecturers, and practitioners in directing and solving love problems.

Abstract

This article explores the phenomenological approach as a methodological framework with in Islamic studies, capable of uncovering religious experiences in a profound and contextual manner. In contemporary Islamic scholarship, phenomenology contributes significantly to understanding the spiritual, cultural, and social dynamics of Muslim communities by emphasizing the importance of subjective experience and the meanings that emerge from lived religious realities. The author specifically examines the thought of Hasan Hanafi, who integrates the phenomenological approach with social hermeneutics in interpreting the Qur’an. Through this approach, the interpretation of sacred texts extends beyond their literal meaning, taking into account the social and historical realities of the Muslim community. This study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach, focusing on Hanafi’s thought as the primary object of analysis. The findings indicate that the phenomenological approach in Islamic studies can enrich religious understanding, contextualize religious messages, and offer an emancipatory interpretive framework that guides the liberation of the ummah through contextual hermeneutics.

Abstract

This research examines the history and bibliography of the Qur'anic chain of transmission (sanad) of Riwayat Hafs and the process of granting the Qur'anic certificate (ijazah) to participants in the Qur'anic Sanad certificate program at the Itqan Education Foundation, a private institution officially established in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2009. This field research is a descriptive study using qualitative methods with a historical approach. It examines historical sources related to the Qur'anic chain of transmission (sanad) of Riwayat Hafs, which is popular among Muslims in Malaysia. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this study conclude that the genealogy of the Qur'anic chain of transmission (sanad) studied by the author is considered to be of high quality, requiring strict qualifications and a verification process to obtain this certificate. Until in the end, only participants who memorize the entire Al-Qur'an and fulfill all the qualifications can receive a diploma from the Al-Qur'an.

Abstract

Zakāt is a crucial element in Islam due to its spiritual and socio-economic roles. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of zakāt management at zakāt monitoring institutions (LAZ) and BAZNAS, focusing on social capital, particularly trust and networks, along with the role of Islamic principles. The research will involve examining academic articles, books, and official publications regarding zakāt and social capital, conducting literature reviews and document analyses. The findings reveal that trust is a major factor influencing the success of zakāt distribution and collection among transparent organizations. Furthermore, social networks that include institutions, local communities, and government bodies enhance the scope of zakāt distribution and promote the empowerment of muzakkī (donors). Islamic principles ensure that zakāt is managed effectively and ethically, in accordance with sharīa (Islamic law). As a result, enhanced trust, networks, and the application of Islamic principles strengthen the integrity of the zakāt system, increasing muzakkī engagement and effectively reducing social inequalities.

Abstract

This study discusses the classification of tafsir according to Walid A. Saleh's perspective, focusing on an analysis of al-Thaʿlabī's book Tafsir al-Kasyf wa l-bayān. The main objective is to map the position and contribution of al-Thaʿlabī's tafsir in the classical tafsir tradition through a conceptual approach developed in his work The Formation of the Classical Tafsir Tradition. This study uses a qualitative library research method with a character study approach, which relies on the analysis of primary and secondary texts related to tafsir and the thoughts of Walid A. Saleh. The results show that Saleh classifies tafsir works into three main categories: First, encyclopaedic tafsir (muṭawwalāt al-tafsīr). Second, madrasah tafsir. Third, Hāsyiyah madrasah tafsir. These three categories reflect different functions and levels of understanding in the interpretation process. Saleh also criticises previous models of tafsir classification, such as those proposed by al-Dzahabi, Ignaz Goldziher, and John Wansbrough, which he considers to be insufficiently comprehensive and overly reductionist. Through the concept of ‘tafsir as a genealogical tradition,’ Saleh emphasises that every work of tafsir is the result of a dialectic with previous tafsir traditions. His idea enriches the discourse of tafsir historiography and offers a new paradigm that is more historical, dialogical, and contextual in understanding the development of Qur'anic tafsir.

Abstract

Digital transformation in Islamic Studies, particularly in Qur’anic Exegesis, has created new opportunities and expanded accessibility to knowledge. However, this development raises profound questions regarding the representation of Islamic intellectual heritage in digital spaces. This study examines the representation of classical exegesis on the Indonesian digital platform, tafsirweb.com. It operates on the premise that digitisation of tafsir is not a passive process, but rather involves active construction, filtering, and presentation that can shape users’ understanding of classical interpretive narratives. Employing library research and a qualitative-analytical approach, this study applies Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis as its theoretical framework. The findings indicate that although tafsirweb.com appears neutral, it actively constructs the authority of classical exegetes through metadata and the prioritisation of specific commentaries. The use of literal and hierarchical diction fosters a restrictive understanding, while the assumption of the Qur’anic Arabic’s transparency without further contextualization further reinforces this authority. The platform’s content curation practices and fragmented discourse consumption patterns tend to reflect Sunni mainstream perspectives, potentially leading to decontextualization and erosion of traditional authority. Socio-culturally, the platform functions as a counter-narrative while simultaneously reinforcing an epistemic-conservative ideology on one hand, safeguarding Islamic doctrine, yet on the other hand, potentially inhibiting contextual interpretation.

Abstract

The background of the author conducting this research is because calamity is an event that often occurs anywhere and anytime, whether it is due to human action or it is the will of God that cannot be avoided. The purpose of this study is to provide an in-depth discussion of the concept of calamity (musibah) in the Qur’an from the perspective of Tafsir al-Ibriz li Ma‘rifat Tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Aziz by Bisri Mustofa, as well as to examine the relevance of his interpretations within the context of contemporary life. This research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method for data collection, which involves gathering and analyzing both primary and secondary sources from relevant foundational texts. The results of the data analysis then obtained conclusions, namely, first, calamity is interpreted as a bad event, danger and harm, this is illustrated by Bisri in his interpretation contained in 10 letters. Second, Bisri's interpretation is still relevant to the social context of society in Indonesia today.

Abstract

The debate surrounding the concept of nāsikh and mansūkh in the Qur’an, particularly in verses concerning khamr (intoxicants), remains a significant issue in Qur’anic exegesis and the sources of Islamic law (uṣūl al-fiqh). Classical interpretations that understand legal replacement as a gradual abrogation are often considered insufficient in addressing contemporary methodological needs, especially within increasingly complex contexts. This study aims to reinterpret the khamr verses, which have traditionally been viewed through the framework of nāsikh–mansūkh, by employing the maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah philosophical framework proposed by Jasser Auda. The research adopts a qualitative method based on library research, utilizing relevant literature that supports the analysis. The findings indicate that the gradual revelation of the khamr verses should not necessarily be understood as chronological legal abrogation, but rather as a value-based process that emphasizes the objectives of the Sharī‘ah, particularly the preservation of human intellect and life. This study concludes that classical maqāṣid concepts should not remain static; instead, they must evolve in response to contextual demands. Jasser Auda argues that traditional maqāṣid should be expanded beyond the scope of individual welfare toward a broader framework of universal public good.

Abstract

This study critically examines the existence and role of Qirâ’ât Syādzdzah in the classical tafsīr work Al-Jāmiʿ li Aḥkām al-Qurʾān by al-Qurṭubī, as well as its implications for the construction of Qur’anic interpretation. The primary focus of this research lies in exploring how these non-mutawātir readings are treated by classical exegetes in determining legal meanings and normative values derived from the sacred text. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach through library research, this study analyzes selected verses within al-Qurṭubī’s tafsīr that reference and consider Qirāʾāt Syādzdzah. The findings reveal that the presence of these readings in al-Qurṭubī’s commentary not only showcases variant recitations but also plays a pivotal role in expanding interpretative horizons and enriching the dynamics of tafsīr. The study concludes that Qirâ’ât Syādzdzah possess not only philological and historical significance, but also serve as hermeneutical instruments in the exegetical process of the Qur’an, particularly within the framework of classical tafsīr scholarship.

Abstract

Self-harm has been discussed as one of the crucial phenomena until now, and has become one of the objects of study from various fields. However, studies that examine this phenomenon from a Qur’anic perspective remain relatively limited. This research aims to analyze the concept of self-harm in the Qur’an through a thematic study of the terms ba>khi‘ and z}alama nafs, with reference to Buya Hamka’s Tafsir Al-Azhar. This study employs a library research method using a qualitative-descriptive approach. The data are analyzed by examining Qur’anic verses that contain these terms and interpreting them based on Buya Hamka’s exegetical explanations. The findings indicate that the Qur’anic concept of self-harm encompasses a broader scope of meaning than that offered by psychological definitions. The term ba>khi‘ describes an intense emotional impulse that may give rise to the desire to harm oneself, yet does not culminate in actual behavior. Meanwhile, z}alama nafs represents moral and spiritual forms of self-harm, such as arrogance, ingratitude for God’s blessings, and violations of religious values. According to Buya Hamka, although such actions constitute self-oppression, individuals who engage in them remain eligible for repentance and divine forgiveness.
