Abstract

Punishment is an important instrument in maintaining social order and preventing crime. In Islamic law, one form of punishment that plays a fundamental role is qisas, which is retribution for the crimes of murder and abuse. This concept is often misunderstood as a practice of violence, when in fact it embodies the principles of justice, protection of life, and social balance. Qisas is based on equality between the perpetrator and the victim, but its application is regulated by strict conditions and still allows for forgiveness and diyat compensation. This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the essence of qisas, including its definition, normative basis, conditions for implementation, and the wisdom contained therein. The research method used is a literature review, tracing classical and contemporary tafsir and fiqh literature, as well as related academic research. The results of the study show that qisas has a universal dimension of justice that is not limited to certain communities, and affirms the importance of protecting the rights of victims while providing opportunities for social reconciliation through forgiveness. In addition, qisas serves as a deterrent to crime and a guarantor of social stability. This study affirms that qisas is not merely a punishment, but an ethical and juridical system that reflects the main objectives of Islamic law in protecting life and upholding justice.

Abstract

The Umayyad Dynasty (661–750 CE) played a significant role in the history of Islamic civilization, not only through territorial expansion but also in the development of education as a foundation for civilizational progress. This study aims to analyze the contributions of education during the Umayyad era, the roles of intellectuals and scholars, and the integration of religious and worldly knowledge in shaping competent human resources. The research employs a qualitative approach with historical and comparative analysis, examining historical documents, classical manuscripts, academic literature, and previous studies on Islamic education of the period. The findings indicate that Umayyad education was structured through kuttabs, madrasas, halaqahs, bimaristans, and literary councils, covering religious sciences as well as general disciplines such as mathematics, astronomy, medicine, and philosophy. The use of Arabic as a lingua franca strengthened knowledge dissemination. These educational initiatives facilitated the advancement of Islamic civilization by establishing intellectual centers in Damascus, Basra, Kufa, and Andalusia. In conclusion, education during the Umayyad period was not merely formal instruction but a strategic foundation for Islamic civilization, integrating religious and worldly knowledge. This study contributes by highlighting education as a primary pillar of civilizational development in the classical Islamic era.

Abstract

Akidah Akhlak learning in the modern era demands the innovative utilization of digital media to overcome student boredom frequently caused by the dominance of conventional teaching methods. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of utilizing web-based digital media specifically using Google Sites as an interactive learning medium to boost students' learning outcomes. This quantitative research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest model. The research subjects involved 26 students of Class VIII E at MTs Al-Ittihaad Ma’arif NU 1 Purwokerto, selected through the intact group technique. Data collection relied on learning outcome test instruments, which were subsequently analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Normalized Gain (N-Gain) test. Empirical data analysis proved a significant escalation in the students' average learning outcomes, surging sharply from 45.77 in the pre-test to 89.62 in the post-test. Furthermore, the effectiveness test yielded an N-Gain coefficient of 0.81, which is classified into the "High" category. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the utilization of digital media is proven to be highly effective, valid, and feasible as a learning instrument to optimize students' conceptual understanding and academic achievements in the Akidah Akhlak subject.

Abstract

The era of information disruption and massive exposure to social media trigger cognitive vulnerability and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) among adolescents, requiring educational institutions to proactively equip students with critical thinking skills. This study aims to explore the role of peer counseling as a strategy for developing adolescent critical thinking in an Islamic educational environment. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design at SMA Future Gate Putri Boarding Bekasi, data were collected through non-participatory observation, in-depth interviews with counselors and counselees, and document studies. The results indicate that peer counseling effectively functions as cognitive scaffolding for students. Through the application of the Plus-Minus-Implication (PMI) method and the principle of Tabayyun (verification), this intervention facilitates emotional regulation through psychological equality, which is a prerequisite for achieving rational thinking. The program successfully transformed students’ reactive attitudes into proactive ones, improved cognitive independence, fostered assertiveness, and reduced dependence on digital trends. In conclusion, peer counseling has proven to be a comprehensive method that successfully integrates 21st-century skills with Islamic character values to respond to the challenges of the disruption era.

Abstract

The Qur'an is the greatest miracle with unparalleled linguistic beauty, which can be understood comprehensively through mastery of Balaghah Science, especially Badi' Science. This study aims to examine the existence and urgency of muhassinat lafdziyyah as an instrument to beautify the pronunciation of the holy verses of the Qur'an. The method used is qualitative with a library research approach, which takes data from primary sources such as the Book of Balaghah Al-Muyassaroh and other supporting secondary sources. The results of the discussion show that muhassinat lafdziyyah focuses on the beauty of phonetic aspects, sounds, letter harmony, and rhythm without sacrificing clarity of meaning. These forms of beautification are manifested through popular rhetorical devices such as Jinas (Jinas Tam and Jinas Naqish), Saja' (Mutharraf, Mutawazin, Mutawazi, and Murashsha), and Iqtibas (Ma'nawi, Tam, and with changes). This research confirms that the language style of the Qur'an is not merely an aesthetic ornament, but is very functional in conveying and emphasizing the deep theological meaning.

Abstract

This study examines the characteristics of Tasawwuf texts within the curriculum of the Islamic traditional education system in Malabar, South India, known as Pallidars. It addresses a scholarly gap concerning both their role in moral and ethical divine education and the significance of the region’s traditional Islamic education system. Employing a qualitative methodology, the study combines content analysis of multiple key Tasawwuf works with interviews of expert scholars, drawing from local vernacular sources. The study centres on the research question “How does Pallidars curriculum fix the Tasawwuf texts for moral and ethical divine education in Malabar regions?” to comprehensively examine the characteristics, teaching methods, and effectiveness of the Tasawwuf texts which is categorized into foundational, intermediate, and advanced levels, each featuring distinct texts that progressively deepen spiritual knowledge and practice. Findings reveal that the Pallidars curriculum effectively promotes applied spirituality and ethical living rather than rote memorization, supported by pedagogical methods emphasizing practical implementation. Biographical insights into the authors enrich understanding of the intellectual heritage underpinning the curriculum. Overall, the study highlights the Pallidars system’s enduring contribution to sustaining spiritual and ethical values in Malabar’s Muslim community through a structured, multi-text Tasawwuf education.

Abstract

Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, an intellectual from Egypt, argued that the Quran is a 'cultural product' (muntaj thaqafi). This means that the text of the Quran was formed in reality and culture for more than 20 years. Historically, the text of the Quran does not appear in a vacuum. The text of the Quran contains all the cultural elements from which it was revealed. This study aims to delve deeper into Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd's thoughts regarding the view of "The Quran as a Cultural Product". The researcher will describe sub-discussions which include the biography of Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, the text of the Quran in the perspective of Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, two phases of the text of the Quran according to Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, and the argument of the Quran as a cultural product from the perspective of Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative approach method. This research is a library research, which is a research whose object of study uses library data in the form of books, journals, and articles as its data sources. The results of the research from the topic that the researcher raised are that "The Qur'an as a Cultural Product" does not mean the Qur'an as a human product that Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd meant from that view, namely the Qur'an as a cultural product because the Qur'an reflects the culture in which the Qur'an was revealed. This research enriches the study of the science of the Qur'an and contemporary interpretation, especially regarding Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd's thoughts on the concept of the Qur'an as a cultural product (muntaj tsaqāfī). This research attempts to explain that the concept is not intended to deny the origins of the Qur'anic revelation, but rather to explain the process of interaction of revelation with the social, linguistic, and cultural realities of Arabia during the time of revelation.
